You should read this. The manga continuation of darker than black, one year after the events of the original anime. It is in the same art(for the most part), spirit and feel. I never did watch the second season because I did not want to compromise the memory of the original season's quality. And based on the few things I have seen or heard it was a disappointment. I decided to ignore it and read the manga instead which was well worth it. I have no idea if the manga ignores or continues where the second season stopped.

That manga is a complete side-story.

Because the second season had nothing to do with the first. There was no real plot anymore, it was character driven instead. Characters, that have nothing to do with the series. They basically eliminated all of the season one characters, Hei included. I don't mean that he just took a dive and acts like a loser, they literally replaced him with someone else who just looks like him.
And why the snow would I care about some snowing family drama in russia, when I want to see more superagent trickery?
The "new" Hei, is the one that appears already in season one, by old I mean the one who was in south america kicking contractor ass. The new one is a siscon on a downward spiral with superpowers.
Izanami izanagi is japanese folklore, which is a really overused plot device.

You're wrong on this one Joonas. My guess is that you didn't watch the Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden episodes which explain the events after the first season and prior to the second one. How they were chased by the Syndicate and how Yin "evolved" into Izanami, etc. I see a lot of side-story in the second season too, but it's not completely a side story. Yin's cryogenic chamber got hit by Suou after all, which awoken her from her self-induced slumber. That led to the conclusion of the second season so... it's not an OVA.
@Elvin, I dunno if the mangas are related to the animes. Searched for the first manga and it seems another story, but I can't say for sure. That link you gave me is from the second manga season which again I have no clue if is related to the anime, or even with the first one. It's a mess, too bad for the story cuz it's osum. I don't know why this poor management... or maybe something escapes me.

Started reading Shingeki no Kyojin and joining the hype.
The portrayal of war reminds me of Eden  reaaaally good, liking it.

Yeah, and the story connected to the first season...when exactly? 90% of the season we see this character who looks like Hei go around drinking in syberia and with the little girl on tow. Yay. Totally what I wanted to see, right? NO.
I don't know what happened there, did someone just go: "Hey, I have a great idea, let's make season two a slice of life in winter russia and have nothing to do with the first season." Then their boss was like: "Brilliant! If we even ditch most of the cast but keep the main for getting a good cover picture, I bet they won't ever see it coming!" "Let's make him a drunk loser, who can't even talk to maximize the
troll effect too!" "Awesome!"

PS. I did watch the fanservice filled crap hole that was the gaiden. So completely snow it didn't deserve to see the light of day.

I read berserk again for the first time in like 2-3 years.
They're still on the boat, Miura did a flashback, then got back to the boat and now he's working on a different manga.
At least, he drew a lot of full-frontal nudity?

My decision to not watch the second season proved most wise it seems. I knew that the quality had been compromised but this.. Sad really.

The series isn't bad, per se, but compared to the first? Yeah, not really the same series.
But ova just plain sucks, no questions about that. It explains what happened in between but that doesn't even begin to make up for it.

Watched Tenjou Tenge. Fantastic 4.5/5. I didn't thought I would like it at first, but it's actually pretty good. It's not just muscles and ecchi, it has a good plot and great drama! And I heard the manga is even more intense, I'll probably check it out sometime soon.
Don't know if I'm gonna resume Code Geass. Watched ep 1 and I really don't like it. Not the plot, not the setting, not the main char, no nada.

Took a look at Kentaro Miura's gigantomakhia. It.. didn't suck. Not quite what I expected either. Let's just say that it is a curious mix of fantasy and sci fi that might or not work for you. The best part is that with this mini-series out of the way, berserk will resume It is possible that Miura will revisit gigantomakhia in the future but he'd better take care of berserk first!

Just read it after you mentioned it, I didn't know it was a thing.
Didn't really appeal to me at all, worst of witchgirl magictech babble combined with awkward sexual nectar tension (o____O).
The first fight was pretty cool though, I always enjoy good depictions of grappling.
Get to berserking, old man!

Yes, it is fairly weird in more than one ways I can see a number of parallels to berserk too but it seems that Miura is getting softer.
Have you checked all rounder Meguru yet? Lots of ground-fighting there
