Third World War OOC

This is just an idea, and like Vokial said, it's a bit dangerous idea, but I feel like initiating something...

Anyway, the idea is that every player chooses a state. From now on, s/he is the chosen state's president/prime minister/governor or however it's called in there. We are not going to use the nicknames, so everyone chooses a name for himself. It can be the current ruler's name, former one's, something you invent or even your name. Every state has one ruler, and the number of the state fighting in the war will be dependent on the number of the players.

Since we don't want to turn this place to OSM, () a political content or opinions shouldn't be posted here. What the players will write is only a description of the actions they are doing.

To start, choose a state from the list. If you live in one of the states listed, choose it.

States participating:
United States - Hillary Clinton (Mytical)
Russia
Iran
France - Nicolas Sarkozy (DagothGares)
UK
Israel - Ariel Sharon (GenieLord)
Pakistan
Syria
China - Hu Jintao (JoonasTo)
Korea
Tibet
Serbia - Boris Tadic (Baklava)
Germany
India - Pratibha Devisingh Patil (Lexxan)
Japan
Italy
Australia - (William)
Norway - Jens Stoltenberg (B-E-T-A)

You can suggest other states, too, I might have forgotten some important ones.

Write some basic information about the state, the army, borders (is there tension?), allies and enemies, etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------

State: Israel
Position: Prime Minister
Name: Ariel Sharon

Army: 176,000 soliders + 445,000 on reserve duty. Out of them, 34,000 are in the Airforce, 9500 in the Navy. May have nuclear power.
Advantages: The Airforce. Uses F15 and F16 aircrafts to bombard enemy's headquarters and attack enemy forces.
Disadvantages: Small size and amount of people, surrounded by arab states.

Israel developed recently "The Arrow" a rocket which is supposed to be able to intercept an atom bomb.

Borders: North - Lebanon. Not officially ruled by an extension of the Iranian army named "Hizballa". North East - Syria: had many wars against Israel, desperate to get the captured Golan Heights back. East - Jordan: singed friendly peace with Israel in 1994, after brutal wars thoughout the years. South West - Egypt: signed "cold" peace with Israel in 1979.
Allies: USA
Enemies: Iran, Syria

...Tibet?

Charge!

No, really, no matter how cool Tibet is, it's hardly in much of a position to turn the tides of World War III...

Also you seem to have forgotten Germany. You can't have a world war without Germany, for heaven's sakes. A world war without Germany is like British people without tea.

Anyways, I don't know whether to pick Serbia, Scotland, Ireland or Jamaica. Which do you propose?

EDIT
Almost forgot...

After we choose countries, there will be an event that will be the excuse to the beginning of the war. Every world war has such a thing: WW1 had the gun shot that started it, WW2 had the invade of Germany to Poland. From that event (which I'm still thinking of) things will start happening.

Baklava: Tibet has problems with china, and if china is involved in a war, Tibet will have a role, too.

A role, yes, but not much impact, that's my point...
I mean, you can't have one player play Tibet and the other playing Russia. It's a bit imbalanced, that's all...

Ok I want to add:

Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden and Monaco.

Belgium: Weak, smal, but high-tech army, with troops specialising in Minister transportation and potato peeling

Netherlands: Just a country I added, because in WWII they fell in 10 days, unlike Belgium, which fell in 18 days

Sweden: Twice they've stayed neutral, but now they will be dragged in WW3

Monaco: I hope they kick@$$ China and Germany

@ Baklava: Tibet maybe triggers WWIII ?

A role of spying, of manipulating your allies to come to help, of rebellion can have more impact in the RP than a role of a might army. Anyway, I want this to be realistic, and every country that has a role and doesn't stay neutral is in, no matter if she's stornger or weaker than the other countries.

You suggest that, what, the USA would attack China in order to protect Tibetan human rights?
With Russia making joint military drills with China?

I... For some reason, I doubt that. :\

EDIT
@ GenieLord
That's all nice, but larger countries manipulate better than weaker ones. I don't see, for example, how Serbia or Luxembourg could manipulate anyone. On the other hand, USA can manipulate a whole bunch of allies to meet their demands... And has far better spies.

EDIT EDIT
Never mind, all the more fun to play. Now that I think about it.
I'm in. Serbia. Will post details soon.

An idea, can you make diplomatic agreements with other countries in secret - that is, over HCM? Or, better yet, send messages to allies in the thread itself, but make them coded? So that, if enemies crack your code, they can understand your messages. But if you notice they got through your code, you can make another one, or seek out a spy among your allies, or something.

USA is not the only army that cares about Tibet, but it really doesn't sound very realistic. Tibet will probably assist the enemies of China, and will be released only if China loses, or something like that. All that will be dependent on the tactical decisions of the USA president, the Tibetan leader, etc.

From now on, I'm adding to the list a state, only if there's someone that wants to play with it.
Lexxan, if you want to play one of the suggested states, I'll add them.

That's a cool idea! Sounds fun, trying to understand the enemies' codes.

So please give us the needed information about Serbia, and I also need your position and your name.

N00b question: How do we have to play in the first place ?

If I participate, I'll take Belgium.

EDIT: Since I spilled my 20 posts: I tell you this: I'd like to change my country: I won't take Iran, but India ! If India isn't free I'll stick with Belgium.

We will start with a new thread. I will make it, and it will be called "Third World War RP". There, the game itself will take place. Everyone will describe his actions in the war, his conflicts, his decisions, etc.

Quote:

Goodluck. And don't you want to take a more involved state? For your first RP, it will be a bit hard with Belgium. What about Iran? We don't have Iranian member, and it will be fun playing with it.

Actually, check this out ("Character Inspirations" section)...

According to the National Enquirer, Ian Fleming patterned James Bond after Dusko Popov, a Serbian double agent nicknamed Tricycle.

Was there ever a real superspy like James Bond, Her Majesty's secret agent with a licence to kill? A resounding "No" was the answer given by Dusan 'Dusko' Popov, himself the real character who inspired writer Ian Fleming to create agent 007.
"I doubt whether a flesh and blood Bond would last 48 hours as a spy," Popov declared to a group of Italian journalists in 1981, shortly before his death at his residence outside Cannes, on the Mediterranean Cote d'Azur in France.

Right, here goes.

State: Serbia
Position: President
Name: Currently Boris Tadic, elections soon to be held

(The storyline is a bit dramatized, I'll escalate the inner conflicts a bit more during the game just for the sake of fun, and of course I'm not going to present my country as goody-good. It's World War 3, and everyone should have their share of darkness and turmoil. Note that this does not necessarily represent my views and expectations on the current political situation around here.)

Starting storyline: About ten years after the fall of socialism and the dictatorship of Slobodan Milosevic, Serbia finds itself on a crossroads between the pro-democratic and European candidate Boris Tadic and the right-wing radical candidate Tomislav Nikolic. With elections under way, currently the political situation is rather uncertain.
The people are split. Many support European integrations and democracy, and would prefer to remain neutral if any wars were to come. Their wish is to join the EU peacefully, and avoid any conflict with either the USA or Russia.
On the other hand, many are bitter about the recent support of the West for Kosovo independence, and still remember the NATO bombings of 1999. Now that Russia becomes a superpower again, it offers a helping hand to Serbia in remembrance of ancient friendships and alliances, and the nationalist side of the country is more than willing to join with them.
The situation might, depending on the political conditions elsewhere in the world, and the attitude of worldpowers toward Serbia, push the unstable politics of the country to one side or the other.

Army:
About 33,000 professional land soldiers and a large number of conscripts. Recent reformations suggest complete disbanding of conscripts by 2010. and military units remaining 100% professional - and better able to respond to crisis situations.
Airforce: 3000 active personnel and 170 aircraft in 2 main bases.

Advantages: Modernization well under way, reformation of the army almost completed. Extremely well-trained special forces. Mountanous terrain, guerilla groups and determined local population cause considerable attrition to enemy land units invading the country directly.
Disadvantages: Few in numbers, still a lot of older equipment, very few armored vehicles. Too much national propaganda, lack of discipline and overly gruesome conditions can lead to series of uncontrolled vendettas and war crimes such as during the wars of the 90s.

Borders:
North - Hungary. Neutral relations, Hungarians are a considerable majority in Vojvodina (North Serbia).
West - Croatia and Bosnia. Former enemies during the nineties, national hatred now slowly disappearing, currently neutral relations. In Bosnia, there's a large entity called Republika Srpska (Serbian Republic), inhabited by Serbs.
Southwest - Montenegro. After the peaceful breakup, relations with Montenegro are also currently neutral.
South - Albania and newly declared nation of Kosovo, bad relations. Serbia does not recognize Kosovo's independence, and Serbs and Albanians generally dislike (understatement) each other. Conflict is possible. More south - Macedonia, former Yugoslav republic. Neutral to friendly relations. Macedonia also has problems with Albanians.
West - Bulgaria and Romania. Neutral to friendly relations.

Allies: Officially none. Extremely friendly relations with Russia. Tendencies toward European integration. Nothing decided yet.

Enemies: Also, officially none. Unfriendly relations with Kosovo and Albania might escalate in the future, cold relations with USA also present.

Some additional suggestions.  Africa, Switzerland.  Resources would be important also, so any place that has such resources would have to be included.  Even if they stayed neutral, they could always manipulate things in their favor.
