OK, then the answer is correct. A simple task for the first time, didn't want you to calculate 6 moves ahead

This is the 2nd trick I wanted to show. It's called discovered attack.

You move your knight out of the way of the rook -> attacking the queen. And at the same time, delivering check with your knight. This is a fork. A special one, but not hard to spot. Congrats!

That was a cool trick, and actually I think white would win in this situation (get the black's queen)

What is that pawn doing at D2? It wasn't there before!

Nor would it allow the bishop at G5 to be there since both exits are blocked by pawns (B2 and D2)

Nothing new to me yet.
The "problems" were easy.
And I've never learned chess.
Damn I can't even keep up with those codes. (e4 etc.)

Interesting thread. Even more because I'm not really interested in chess. It needs too much attention to pay to every detail, givews me headache and I lose my interest in it very fast
But it's interesting to read this thread and learn some good tricks and correct rules. I'm too lazy to learn this all during practice

Question:
The pawn special abilities are not clear to me.
Promotion: You can only change the pawn to captured pieces, right? That's how I know, but I never really 'studied' chess, I was told by relatives when they taught me the basics (only the moves, to be correct)
En passant: So, I manage my pawn to that position, near an unmoved enemy pawn. Then in my next round I can take that pawn OR only if in his next round (right after my pawn was set there) my enemy moves that particular pawn two squares OR something else?

Thank you.

Well, you can promote your pawn into anything but a king. Thus you may have up to 9 queens!!

But!: In real life chess games it is usually a good idea to promote into a captured piece, in order to be able to replace it easily. You can't buy a wooden chessboard containing 9 queens, rooks etc for both sides But in computer chess, it's easy to solve.

An about the en passant. You move your pawn to the 5th rank. Then you have to wait for an adjacent pawn to pass 2 squares. When it does so, you may capture it diagonally forward (altough it is next to your pawn). But in the very next move after the opposing pawn moves. Is it clear now?

What's the point in promoting it in a Rook or a Bishop?

I thought you can't have more than 2 Queens...

Promoting onto rook or bishop is rare. But does make sense. It is used to avoid stalemate (when you have no legal moves, but your king is not in check. This is a draw.) The queen is sometimes too powerful in positions that are overloaded with attacker pieces.

I didn't know promote can be used like that But how do you distinguish it after being promoted? (mark it or what?)

Well if you have a classic chess set, you can turn a rook upside down (as most of the rooks have flat top, so it stands turned up too.) Or you can use another queen from another set. Use your imagination In my set, there is a small stone that fits perfectly on the squares. This is a unique object on the board

Keldorn are those pics from Chessmaster 10th edition? Either way it's nice "game" and it has very good tactic and technique teachings for beginners and advanced players.

What i liked best in Chessmaster 10th was the gameplays from masters own games over the years whit commentaries they had in mind when they made their "moves".

If you are interested about chess and want to learn new things try the game out. Nice thread Keldorn btw

You can sometimes instantly apply fork with a promoted knight. Except for that, queen is the best idea indeed

A new problem to solve, guys. Good luck

Here black has a mate in one move. How can white prevent this, with winning material?
