Yes Corribus.
I guess it is hard to control the heart.
Not even a human being can control it at times.

I also agree with the scientist
I dont agree with his mindset, but i do agree of what he is saying from a scientist point of view.

I don't see how you can dispute what I said about Comte's philosophy seeing as how my link quotes him, making it quite clear what he means by "altruism".

Azagal:
God forbid I should have a positive self-image. What unimaginable horror. It also seems to me that you can't point out where I'm wrong, because all you're doing is attacking the way I say things, not what I say. (Not to mention your typical misinterpretation of pillar theory, but that's only to be expected.)

I also cannot dispute what Elodin says about social democracy, MVass.

Fanatically holding on to an attitude and then finding an opposite one which also happens to call yours wrong causes anguish; if there is anything in the least ambiguous or not plainly discernible by an 8 year old about the opposing side, you will present it as obviously the worst possible case; see radical atheists and the Bible. That, and different wording and definitions (which apparently is a common tactic to seed confusion among enemy ranks in the OSM), can only result in an endless, and above all, pointless discussion about basically nothing.

This, however, wasn't even meant to be a debate about Comte so, like I said, let's leave it for another day.

You know full well I've got nothing against you in person, so let's just agree to disagree, we've both won, friendly handshake, your sister is a prostitute etc.

Yeah. We were far too different and had little in common - values, interests, personality, etc. I found it difficult to like her romantically, so I decided to break up with her, and I did. (Then again, given where I met her, I shouldn't have expected much.)

Bak:
It's not a debate about Comte, but surely you can see how Comte and love are related. Love->whether love can be unconditional->what causes love->love as an expression of one's values->what is necessary to have values->the necessity of the self->altruism->Comte. Quite easy to follow. Or, in reverse order: you entirely agree with Comte->you subscribe to altruism->you do not have values->you cannot love.

You are a very cold & hard young man.

With your reasoning, I dont find that love you describe or do i find your definition satisfactory.
Maybe i am the only one but your ego has flown sky high.

You dont deserve most women as far as i am concerned.
I think the women who share your point of view & party less are more your type.
Very rare indeed to find.

Of course. Most women would not be interested in me, just as I am not interested in them. It wouldn't be enjoyable for me to be in a relationship with someone who was radically different. You're right in saying that women who party less are more my type, though it takes more than that. As for sharing my views, it's definitely a plus, but it's not completely necessary - as long as they value me and I value them, and we have compatible personalities and interests, that's all it takes.

But I'm not cold. I do care about other people. I'm just not a quivering mass of emotion.

Thats so funny that in order to love someone you have to be a quivering mass of emotions, no actually you just need a heart and feelings.

I think what she meant was that to love anyone or feel any emotion, you have to have that quiver.
To truly love, not to think that you love someone.
You just know. it is that unexplainable feeling, that you dont know until you feel it.

Sometimes in life things are not as simple you know MVass.

I guess sometimes there may be more important things in life then meets the eyes.

Life evolves around so many different emotions that sometimes our hearts cant even tell us if it is right.
Sometimes we may do wrong but for good reasons, as well as you may be doing right or wrong but for your own reasons.

Sometimes our own emotions can be something we have but wish we can change.
Change is usually a good thing.

Life is more then just reading books & school for me.
To others it is about being the smartest.
No right or wrong answer, it is our own personal opinion.

There are even people who get good chills to see people get hurt by their own actions & actually enjoy it.
Pretty sad but hey, it can get worst. Depending on beliefs & Where your from as well

Exactly....You can't control true love it controls you in many ways, from being unable to sleep or eat to being scared that you may say or do the wrong thing and push they other person away. You can't explain true love by reading books, it's the same as rasing a child, yes you can read books to give you ideas but every child is different. It's the same with love, past experiences good or bad, where a person is from, how they were raised, lots of things can influence how we love someone. Also you can't love someone if you want to change that person or that person changes because they think its what you want. Love with your heart and not with your head, trust your instincts and above grab it with both hands and enjoy it, isn't that right 1910?

As long as you people keep using the "you haven't experienced it, but we can't explain it or point out where you're wrong" argument, there's nothing to discuss.

Are you 19 now or when you joined?
So exactly how many girlfriends have you and how long have they stuck around? From a female point of view if you were my boyfriend I'd kick your ass out of my bed and out my life a.s.a.p. and get a real man.

How about you get some experience first and after that come back and tell us all about it. The more you experience it the more complicated and difficult to describe it becomes.

As long as you keep theorycrafting, there is nothing to discuss.

I am currently 19, yes. I've had one girlfriend; that relationship lasted for a month until I broke up with her (she wanted to continue it, but I wanted to end it, and I did). The important parts of the relationship are documented either in this topic or Doomforge's (can't remember which).

veco:
My theories explain my observations and so far no one could point out any real flaws in them. The only counterarguments I've seen either amount to "you don't have experience" or "I don't like them", which aren't really counterarguments.

And as much as I'd like to get a girlfriend, that's not exactly easy if I want to do it properly.

Mvass, you were in a relationship for a month. If you were in it for maybe 6 months or even 12 months then yes, I'd agree with you in saying that you know what love is, but it was a month. You have no bloody idea what it is and with the way that you are, I really doubt you ever will.
