last time i heard most criminals obtain guns illegally. such as stealing them from licensed relatives or illegal trafficking.

Thats quite funny, because there has yet to be a school shooting in Norway. The gun/house ration here is high enough do the hunter/population ration, so we got the guns. We also got the bullies, since they cannot be purged by anything other than hard action(which the law is not allowing).
So we got the guns, and the trauma needed to trigger the event. But for some reason there has yet to be.
Why? All the guns must be locked securely away, and thats a fact. I got a shotgun within 20 meters of me, but i can't find it. Its quite well hidden, since we got no locker. The locker rule only applies if you got more than 2 or more guns however, but it still cannot be laying there easy to snatch. It could hang on a display, but then the ammo must be either well hidden or sealed of in some locker or safe.
And the shotgun is quite heavy, handguns which are light and easy to carry are there few of.
Only people in pistol clubs got handguns, guess how few that is?
So basically, a gun ban won't solve anything. You need the rest of the regulations for it to work.

Basically its 2 choices:
*No gun
*All guns

A gun free zone is also ridicules, the idea is good but how it actually works is bad.

American Education is kinda messed up.  Mediocrity is ok, and even encouraged, all that matters is the 'test' scores.  Instead of getting the extra help the slower students need, everybody is slowed down so they can keep up.  Wouldn't want to hurt anybody's 'feelings'.  Funding is a joke because any time the school needs to raise money they try to pass a levy, and hardly anybody is going to volunteer to pay more tax.

We bail out multibillion dollar industries, but can't properly supply our own schools.  The average salary is $18/hr, but the average person doesn't make near that.  Teachers, the ones who prepair our children for the future, should make ABOVE average wages.  Our future is worth it, skip the levy.  Just pass the increase and move on, take some of that 'golden parachute' money and put it where it will actually do some good.  Invest in the future, children ARE the future.

((Note: Everybody knows I am not Anti-American, and am in fact an American.  Doesn't mean I don't see when something is messed up. ))

I remember in the sixth grade (last year) when they were giving prices for students that had "progressed" much.

The two worst people in my class got the price >.>
I couldnt believe it. We said that it was because the teacher felt sad for them >.>

Atleast this year a very intelligent girl in my class got the price.

I hope I dont ever get it. Its just embarrasing to go onto a stage with 1000 people in the hall >.>

Mytical:
The thing is, teachers get summers off, etc. So when you add the hours up, it's really not that bad, per hour. It's just that yearly, it doesn't amount to much. They get paid better than day care providers, which is more than many of them could hope to be.

Xerdux:
"Progressed the most" =/= the best. It means "most improved".

But they didnt improve at all... -.-
My mum said to me that she thought it was retarded

One of them is now in a special "learning" class and the other one still sucks and is books away from the rest.

The only thing that ever matters is to be good in school. Everything must be perfect and I usually dont want to work in a group as my "perfect" works get ruined then

In 2009 I was getting ready to start high school. I miss those days, specifically the  naive dreams and hopes after hearing that those would be the best four years of my life. What a disappointment it turned out to be though.

Yep, had similar issue. Until Middle School I went with my close friends, but after that I went to High School and it was hell. Only one old friend was there, but in different class, alas he probably is the only reason why these years weren't completly wasted in that school. I had those other friends, but them going to a completly different school didn't help as we met only after school. Yet even though life writes its own scenarios, and I'm not that in touch with most of them now, I think it's becasue of them I somehow survived through those years

Back to my High School life itself. Becasue I wasn't quite sure what to do with my life at that point, I went to a class with geography profile. Turned out the class was full of those sporty-type a-holes who were completly full of themselves and bullied anyone who wasn't a "cool kid" in their eyes. Becasue I was far from this kind of mindset (I was neither a sports type, nor a cool kid), and usually couldn't stand up to myself due to not being very assertive at that time, as you might've guessed I wasn't popular. After all those years my only regret was that I wasn't courageous enough to switch to another class (although I thought that people from my current class would badmouth me, becasue they knew people from other classes). I think the problem of "not fitting in" is pretty commonplace and can be pretty heavy on the psyche.

I would probably still have a low esteem about myself if it weren't for college years where I found out I can easily make friends and live an eventful life. Even now when I lost contact with most of the people from that time, the memories are still fond.
