Godzilla got a 9.3 out of 10 on imDb and an 88% so far on Rotten Tomatoes. That's rare.

I just watched the new Jack Ryan movie, it started out giving me the impression and hope, that it's going to be a level-headed, classy spy  film, similar to Jason Bourne movies but maybe with the addition of just a little bit blatant patriotism which can be ignored. But no, the most common of Hollywood mistakes prevailed again; they went over the top. Our young Jack Ryan who was hired as a finance analyst and who had spent only "two weeks in the farm for basic training" suddenly transformed into the compound of James Bond, Sherlock Holmes and a first-class computer guy. Of course, he did not only save the world, he also saved the girl, his girl which the bad guys abducted in the middle of their international evil plan.

Still watchable, if you don't take it seriously.

The first one was still the best: Hunt for Red October.

Yes, that was a good movie. Never thought of it as a "Jack Ryan movie" before though. Harrison Ford movies were OK, too.

I watched Iron Man 3 yesterday. Man, I am so uninspired by movies lately, particularly the big summer blockbusters. The screenplay was just atrociously bad.

Alec Baldwin was the best Jack Ryan, even though Ford is my favorite actor (Raiders, Blade runner).
And that was Sean Connery's prime look with white beard (I am talking after Bond), he made a ton of movies around then and all were top notch (highlander, untouchables, last crusade, the rock).

+1 totally agree, Ironman films have got worse as they have gone along the series. Very poor film.

Saw Battleship Potemkin last weekend, it was good but a bit too Communist for me. Is that what all these new European movies are like?

Just kidding, I haven't seen Battleship Potemkin yet.

Actually, one of the lolworthy aspects of Pan's Labyrinth is the way they depicted the Spanish nationalist guerillas.

Well, that one is only interesting in terms of cinema history and development of some technical stuff. It is quite outdated (1925) to genuinely capture you by any other means.

The stroller scene in the train station from the Untouchables is a rip-off/tribute to it.

Also, they awkwardly turned the protagonist into some jailbait.

I've been watching films from the Napoleonic era, 80 huszárok (1978) was lovely, the dialect was perfect and it was nice to see the relationship between Austria and Hungary in the flesh (so to speak) and a depiction of how Hugnarian soldiers felt at the time. They didn't really seem to care about liberty or the policies of the revolution, the only motive was to see home again, and die for it if need be.

The Duellist is alright, it has believable and realistic duel scenes, but the segments between the duels tend to be rather dreary. Not much is going on and anything that happens outside of the duels doesn't seem to have an importance. And even those lack any sort of purpose beyond unjustified hate.

Hmmm, a Ridley Scott film starring Harvey Keitel and Albert Finney, set during Napoleonic Wars and I've never even heard of it before, gotta suck big time to leave almost no trace at all, maybe like that American Revolution movie with Al Pacino and Donald Sutherland...

Still downloading it just out of curiosity...

I finally watched The LEGO Movie. really cool, although the live action bit at the end kinda ruined it imo. still, a really nice and enjoyable movie, with a kinda hidden message there, reflecting on today's society of sheep.

I give the LEGO movie 10 stars, maybe 50. I loved every second of it, the mushy lovey stuff at the end notwithstanding.

Well, maybe it's related to the fact that I was obsessed with Legos as a child. But I don't think it's just me. It got like 90% or something at Rotten Tomatoes. I went in thinking it might be lame, too, but was pleasantly surprised. Definitely one of the best animated movies I've seen in the last decade.

Everything is awesome.
