Well now Polish speech and subtitles popped up for download, nice, might get that sometimes, though I'm more than pleased with the english ones so far.

Geralt sounds way better than in the last game imo.

In Act 2 now, the 2nd "town" is way less demanding on your hardware than Flotsam, yet the enviroments are more interesting and the quests are awesomer as well

Just getting better and better here... this game may very well be the best one I've ever played... bit too early to say though.

Enhanced my Karyan armor with three Diamond enhancements... man this thing makes my HP go through the roof now

Well, as I have told you before I have finished my other game and started playing Witcher 1. In Act 2 now and I have really tried liking it but I don't even get any pleasure I guess this will be one of those game people go mad about but I can't like it a bit.

What I love about RPG is weapon and armor customization, items generally and spells and abilities. This game lacks these. All those in the ability tree are some upgrade to damage or precision and such. And you mostly use the same silver and steel sword throughout the game as the abilities are based on them. And the fighting system is too dumb for me. You just click the button when the sign goes burning. No excitement

Yes, it's all lacking in those aspects, but the story is superb.

Personally I found most of the excitement in the combat system in making the perfect potions, and combining signs and items for massive ownage.

I suggest you try the hardest difficulty if you aren't already.

The Witcher is a story-driven RPG, more of an interactive novel than a complex game. Though there IS a degree of complexity suitable for a hardcore RPG - the alchemy system. Very cleverly designed and it allows customization.

Went as far as the whirlwind upgrade in the Swordsman tree... think that's all I need from that tree really, gonna focus on alchemy now.

The alchemy Impregnation talent (awesome name heh...) sounds really invaluable with its bonus to Mutagens, I'm saving up on some awesome ones until I've got that one... particularly the Critical Effect bonus mutagens...

Also gonna catch the potion effect bonuses and stuff, gonna buff myself to oblivion.

LMAO at the drunkard herding mission btw! You'll know when you do this mission... holy **** those guys were annoying hahaha

This isn't really your average D&D rpg, hence the differences. Geralt (if you read the books) was portrayed as superhuman; he pretty much never lost a sword fight, with anyone, excluding one super powerful wizard (which also was the "end boss"). He was able to jump in a group of 30 scoia'tael alone and kill them all without any problem. A game based on a story of such a guy must be different - even with the whole amnesia thing, the lore simply prevents customalization (witchers don't use armors cause they don't have to - their defense is not getting hit and excellent parrying which the armor only weakens - also the witchers already use fantastic swords made from meteoric ore, which pretty much makes all other equipment look like garbage) and development (witchers are mutants and their reaction time is much faster than an average human, not to mention other feats).

In other words, it's like playing X:men wolverine and complaining you only have claws and nothing else throughout the game
And there are weapons and armor better than starting gear in W1, they just don't appear after every monster fight.

Weren't they 10? Not that this changes something.
The witchers don't use armors because they need to be as mobile and flexible as possible against the supernatural foes they normally face. The armor is thus a hindrance. The intro where Geralt fights against the striga, which by the way follows the same episode from the book quite closely, is a perfect example. The damn mutant manages to engage a super agile monster in a bloody fist fight, keeps the pace for quite some time without being scratched and draws the silver sword only when he realizes that the monster is not easy to scare with the arguments used until this point. A plate mail would have rendered him the prey rather than the hunter.

I've always wanted that chain he uses against the Striga as a weapon...

As far as armors go, I think they've really nailed the design of these in The Witcher 2. Looks light and practical... I really like all the pouches and stuff, and the scrolls with signs fastened on the more magical jackets are quite logical... explains why a piece of leather can have magic effects

I'm mid-way through chapter 2. Noticed some minor annoyments:

1. some fake difficulty. Once you know what skill is best against which boss - much easier. For example Letho fight. If you have rank 2 Parrying skill, this is a piece of cake. If not, you're just running around hoping that his projectiles won't hit you and trying a desperate aard-hit action every once in awhile (seeing that he puts level 3 Quen over and over again.. it's definitively ONCE in awhile..)

2. Some bonuses seem too minor. I don't see a point of taking a skill that improves my damage by 5%... in a game where damage, at least up that point, is within 20-50 range. extra 1 damage and that's it? meh.

3. Same for potions... seeing how fast you bump into lethal toxicity, drinking a potion that improves your damage by 10% doesn't cut. There are way better potions out there.

4. Guess what - Igni's still a power gamer's best friend Not as crazy as last time, and requiring more dedication, but still kicks butt.

5. Why on earth did they dump status effects? Where's knockdown, pain, disarm, blindness? now there's just poison, incineration, bleed which is exactly the same effect (damage over time). Not cool.

6. Too much rolling on the ground. Geralt reminds me of a circus monkey at times. He just keeps rolling around the enemies infinitely. Otherwise he gets lolraped (especially early on when he's weak).

7. I don't like the way they resolved item import. I'd rather see items such as Moonblade or Raven's armor having their Witcher1 power. To compensate, player could just lose them after prologue. Tht would make more sense than Moonblade being weaker than half-decent silver sword, and raven armor being weaker than some piece of cloth you can get half way through act 1.

whew... That's a big list of complaints. Don't worry though, I dearly enjoy the game, more than W1 actually.

Letho still raped me with his Aards quite heavily... couldn't dodge them... though I didn't have the long-dodge skill at that time. Throwing knives seem awfully imba against bosses btw...

Most of the talents that improve like 5% have a huge bonus the 2nd time you upgrade it, so the first level is worth the investment.

I'm guessing you're referring to Rook with its +10% damage, which is my favourite potion. It's easy to make, so you can almost always keep it active. I mean, 10% extra damage man, it's not minor really, and Thunderbolt comes with quite heavy penalties, at least until you've improved your Alchemy skills.

Rook + Swallow + Tawny Owl is my bread and butter when I don't know what to expect. Simple and effective potions without penalties... will probably throw a Wolf in there when I get the 4-potion talent.

The Knockdown effect still exists, and Pain and Blindness reduced your mobility to zero which was not cool, and would be very un-cool seeing as I die from like 4 hits in The Witcher 2.

The excessive rolling is probably just cuz of your playing style. I really don't roll all that much, parrying works fine. I do roll out when I need space for a bomb throw though.

Agreed about the importing.

Doomforge, I guess you are right. But then again maybe I wouldn't also like Wolverine  I mean, I spent hours customizing my gear in Dragon Age games or Diablo or Mass Effect. The same reason is why I didn't like ME2 as much as the first game. But then again, the fighting style also bore me, so there is nothing to compansate for the other lacks. Anyway, you have fun. And I will play the last game I haven't still played in my Steam (Metro 2033) and don't know what I'll play after that

Finished it. I decided not to powergame because it took too much time. I set the diff to easy and ignored side quests. Took me a few hours to beat the game, most of which I spent confused where to go due to dreadful navigation and map (especially in Act2 canyons/Act3 city! SO CONFUSING!!!)

Idk if it's right to talk about spoilers here though. don't want to screw up people's fun.

No spoilers please, I'm at the beginning of Act 1 and I'm not really in a hurry to finish the thing.
But, um... a few hours? I don't know how much time the side quests take in total but isn't a few hours only on the main quest... hm, insufficient? How long does it take to go through the first Witcher without the side quests (it took me at least 30 hours with many of the optional tasks)?
I play on Normal btw, hate to be too easy but excessive difficulties ruin the game for me just as successfully (not applicable for TBS/RTS though).

The additional quests make the game like 2-3 times longer, so no worries. I finished half the game in few hours - skipping side quests and using easy on which you're practically immortal - when I played hard and did side quests, it took me around 20 hours to get to half of the game.

So it's around 40 hours total, I guess, if you do everything.

Hard isn't hard, it just requires some knowledge about what works and what doesn't (aka: fake diffculty). When in doubt, max Quen asap and use it whenever possible. It allows you to rambo people down with your swords without any regard to the damage they deal, so focusing on damage and max stamina is a nice step from there. Don't forget to upgrade roll distance (feet work) - will save you much time and trouble.

Will people really realize that your thread contains spoilers DF?  Might wanna ask a mod to edit in a giant SPOILERS in the title.

EDIT: Mind you I don't even know if it has any spoilers, I'm just being careful cuz this game is so ultra-awesome.

I feel like I'll definitely have more fun on the 2nd playthrough btw... it's hard to know what things to upgrade and stuff when you don't know what awesome armor or mutagen will show up in a minute.
