I dunno, I always felt that HoMMIII's Dungeon did manage more uniformity.
It's hard for me to put it into words, but I think it pulled it off quite well.
If you had to roll with a theme... well.. UNDERGROUND maybe?
Only Harpies clashed with that and even those were adapted to fit.

Anyway, other HoMMIII factions also managed a uniform look without an overwhelming colour theme, like Stronghold and it's mix of earthy tones, green and metalic colours was pretty vivid, not EVERY unit had some element of colour X in it, despite that, the line-up seemed to fit together.
Even Conflux seemed coherent because... well they're all elemental creatures.

About faction design
But I get it, you prefer blatant plagiarism because that is what the H5 dungeon is.

"plagiarism" ? and what exactly has been plagiarized?

I don't get also the argument that "all stereotypically evil creatures have been put there" - sorry but most, if not all monsters are stereotypically evil. It's just random bunch of mythology creatures plus black dragons.

Well, H5 dungeon had hydras, raptor-like mounts and elven furies, very much like the Dark Elves in Warhammer (see page 453).

as for hydras, they were there in HoMM2 and 4, so much like minotaurs and dragons there are there because of tradition

On the lizard mounts and furies, I have no clue, so I'll take your word for it. I didn't like them anyway

I think they in fact admitted it at some point.
It's basically cntrl C-cntrl V lifted straight from Warhammer.

Usually I cry foul at "oh they took it from X" but in the HoMMV dungeon's case.... I'm sorry it's just embarrasing.
I love HoMMV, just like I love any other HoMM game (except IV) but that was just inexcusable.

(I'm not going to quote the entire post, too much space.)

Hear! Hear! It is a very wel written and sensible argument you make, unicornblood. And I agree with you on many points. I would argue that the factions revolve around a certain racial theme instead of a main colour, but that's another debate.

However, as good an argument you make, Nightterror is not going to give a care as she enjoys trolling to much. And she will, likely, continue to do so, despite the many warnings she has been given.

As for the the whole Dark Elves <> H3 Dungeon debate. I liked them both, from gameplay perspective. However from a lore perspective, I dislike them both.

I agree with Doomforge that H3 Dungeon was little more than a mashup of mythological beasties. Sure there were traces of a theme of undergroundness and evil, but it was greatly underwhelming and rather weakly represented.

But I also dislike the Dark Elves as they were presented in H5. And whereas I will not go so far as to say that they are a "carbon copy" of Warhammer's Dark Elves, as some of you would, I agree that they took too much inspiration from them.

I have opted many times of staging a Minotaur Rebellion and an attempt to reimagin Dungeon within the lore of Ashan. I will wait and see what role the Dark Elves will play in the future installments. But so far I would argue for replacing Dark Elves with Minotaurs.

I like HoMMV Dungeon and Fortress. I also like the color theme and would liike it to stay. Dungeon had some very cool creatures like the dino rider thingy, Shadow Matriarch, Black Dragons and those Hydras. Fortress, well they had Magma Dragons, one of my favorite creatures in HoMMV. They did have too many humans in Fortress but it wasn't bad, I enjoyed them very much.

Dark elves were good idea, but you can't go to war with heels and with lack of armor.
And there is no sense in faction put together by mindless beasts.

War, usually I agree with you on almost all counts, this is one of those rare times I'm going to say you're wrong though.

I'm having trouble finding the pictures online and CBA to scan my old rulebooks so I'll just start by throwing this:

I'm sure there are other, older and better examples of it but seriously.
It's so frighteningly obvious that even me, the guy who claims it's 9/10 when people say "they stole it from X" will disagree and even if it is true, a little inspiration from another popular franchise isn't bad... even me with my "they aren't idiots" attitude towards the developers of my favorite games, naieve as people have called me, cannot ignore the blatant wholesale plagiarism here.

Furies = Witch Elves
Witches = Sorceress
Assasin = Assasin
Lizard Rider = Cold One Cavalry
Lord on T-rex thing = Lord on great big stonking Cold One (T-rex thing)
Beast mastery theme, including Hydra = beast mastery theme, including Hydra.
Black Dragon (no matter how conveniently part of the legacy) = Black Dragon.
There is only 1 creature, out of 7, that does not have a Warhammer counterpart, and that is the Minotaur. (Warhammer Minotaurs are nothing like HoMMV minotaurs, like they don't let a bunch of sissies enslave them... and are also bigger and uglier... and really really strong.)

The Beholder exclusion is more than likely because of copyright reasons.
As for the Troglodyte... We'll probably get another original creature, such as the Primordial Ooze (Breeder Mother reskin) to replace it

Sorry for them long posts, this will be a rather short one.
The Dungeon faction is no longer the Dungeon it was in HIII. Now it is a Magic, rather than Might, oriented faction and, therefore, the creatures have diminished Might looks. The creatures have a purple aura, and there is a tendency towards evil beauty and perfection. The now-Dungeon is NOT oriented towards Chaos and, as such, I believe the Troglodyte and Beholder have no place in it.

HoMMVI has made it very clear they want every faction to have both good might and magic options.

Dungeon has ALWAYS been a magic oriented faction, ever since HoMMI.
And if Dungeon leans again to magic (like it has done since HoMMI), all the more reason to have a large brutal monster of a minotaur to soak damage whilst the hero and magic wielding units whittle away the enemy with their spells.
Having JUST the Hydra pull that wagon isn't going to work.

HoMMV's dungeon members didn't have purple auras, there wasn't a tendency to beauty or perfection either, and I never mentioned Trogs or Beholders, and those creatures aren't explicitly tied to Chaos either.
Besides, in HoMMV a good portion of the dungeon population worked with Demons and Chaos.
It in fact dominates large portions of the Dark Elf segment of the campaign.

No disrespect meant, but please don't make random assumptions about the history of the dungeon faction if you haven't played HoMMI to HoMMIII.

oww please.. this one is so old, and can you please just stick with replying to my homm-based replies.

Making me change is something no man or boy can ever accomplish, so you better stop, the last time I caught myself making personal attacks toward a single person was not against you, I attack the former mistakes of homm5, not you, not your family and not your friends, just a game.

Attacking the game, you attack other people's opinions, and, through the opinion, the people themselves. Keep the "attacks" at a more moderate level (in terms of critic) and we might get along (as I am, too, a critic - maybe not in terms of video games).

Damn right we do!
I like Minotaurs best when they're brutish yet intelligent.
Ditto for Cyclopes and Devils.

Minotaurs should command respect, not be lowly slaves to lesser races.
