Yeah, Qatar is like the world's richest country and their real citizens get everything from their beloved king (while the west screams "dictatorship" lol) and you don't expect them to afford getting some kind of super advanced air conditioning system?

Plus we are talking like +10 years in the future.
A LOT of stuff happened between 2000 and 2010 if you live in a modern country.

as being a football fan , will try to rephrase it for HoMM fans...

ok lets say Ubi sells tomorrow HoMM franchise to Bahrain, everything is cancelled! Bahrain takes over.. They have No Idea what is HoMM their players never played or somehow contributed to HoMM..
But they payed loads of cash so now its theirs. they ivested loads of money on game developement, but storyline is crap, units are weird, and PC doesn't support the game, plus loads of Bugs..
Are you gonna say that Oh HoMM is for everyone, Bahrain have a right to make a HoMM game, inspite of everything.. No way .. you gonna be moaning that WTF what did you do to our beloved game?????? Nival had a right to have HoMM5, inspite that Russian PC games are not the best, there are loads of fans in Russia who Loves to play HoMM.. Black hole has the right as well.. warhammer is a good background and Polish players are very strong in HoMM..

The same applies for football..
Qatar didn't contribute to football at all.. in no way.. You want to have World Cup in a Muslim world.. Give it to North African country or Turkey for example.. Even Far East will do.. But Not Qatar, i doubt they even know what is actually Football..
In terms of the game, it WILL be a BAD performance! Players will not be able to show their best, so fans will not get what they expect from world class football! They can Bribe FIFA , but they can not Bribe the Mother Nature!!Even On one of the swimming competitions in middle east a sportsman died cuz he couldn't comply with the weather conditions.. RIP.. that is sad.. And loats of players will suffer and get injured in this World Cup..

2014 Brazil - has most of the wins of World Cup ... clearly deserves World Cup! Their country lives and breathes football

2018 Russia - first EURO champions as a USSR ..deserves World Cup! The biggest country in the world. Football is favourite sport in Russia along with Hockey

2022 Qatar - IT IS A JOKE !!!!!

I thought both decisions were a bit of a joke - what's the point of having technical reports & visiting stadiums etc; just gotta LOL at 2022 WC in small country, never qualified, stifling 50degC heat, dismantling stadiums afterwards to give to poorer countries [they will be able to drink tho, just not completely over the top]

they're all Russian into a QATARSTROPHE

I can't understand the ranting about Quatar at all.

Why is the size of a country important when hosting a football world cup? You need at least 7 big stadiums, that's all. Hotels for supporters will be there more than enough, be sure..

Why is the heat important? In germany 2006, we had more than 80°F during nearly all games. You can just let the gmaes start at the early evening instead of noon.

What has the contribution to football of a country to do with the chance of hosting a WC? Tell me the contribution of southkorea before 2002? Or USA before 1994?

Alcohol is a supporter problem, not a problem for the players. So if you can't live without daily alcohol, stay at home and watch the games on tv.

Normaly, those big events are the chance for a country to "get started" in a specific sport, or at least get some great new stadiums.

Do not underestimate the arabians and their love for football. They can be as enthusiastic as southern europe fans. I have seen some asian championsleague finals....

Give them a chance and start ranting afterwards....

See it this way, angelito: would you agree to Thüringen (Thuringia) host a WC? That's comparable in size - but has 500.000 more people. Quatar has less people than Hamburg, 80% of which are not born in Quatar at all.

Quatar was a wise choice, both political and financial. And no, nobody will play under 60°, they already stated that a cooling system will be used around the stadiums, so it will be like anywhere.

And why not? If it has enough stadiums to play at (which I doubt currently ), and enough hotels.
And again....why is it important the host has a specific amount of inhabitants? The supporters will fill the stadiums normally, not the people living there...

Ok. Say you'll have 40.000 spectators per game. That would mean you'll need 20.000 people from 32 countries, which is a bit more than 600.000 people visiting within the first 2 weeks.
600.000. That's one third of their population.
I don't think, living 2 weeks in a hotel somewhere in Quatar is cheap. Not to mention that I doubt they can host so many.

Considering that for ECs, which are half as big, TWO countries now do it for some time, the choice is poor.

What makes you think that 20k fresh visitors have to come to each match? You can have 40k for the whole cup, and anyway the economy is busted within TV rights. And I am sure Quatar provided to FIFA enough proofs that it can hold enough fans, it was one of the conditions. As for the prices, they will have to be standard, better 40k x standard price than nobody, they are not stupid.

The only thing that could turn wrong is that it is a muslim country, so some fanatics could choose this event to satisfy their angry. It will be harder to control muslims in Quatar than it would be in USA or such.

That's actually a pretty good, and alarming, point.

Hopefully terrorists realize that attacking the World Cup would likely turn literally the entire world vehemently against them. They're only really contending militarily with the United States and a few allies right now; attacking the World Cup would make them a priority target on a global scale.

I'm sure staying in Qatar will be expensive as hell, but considering the event, I'm sure there's still going to be an abundance of people zealous enough to do it. It's also a fast growing area and it's going to be substantially more urbanized and equipped by 2022.

People can talk about how culturally awkward it will be when hedonistic fans from Europe show up in a Gulf country, but in terms of safety, it's a playground compared to South Africa. The M.E. is a very low crime region despite some its hardships. Just like with the Olympics, you can't ignore the political and cultural impact the World Cup has, and it's pressured to change around its host region.

Is Qatar less than ideal? Of course, but when you consider the rest of the M.E., not including Turkey, what are the better options that would be less awkward? The only other one I can think of is maybe Egypt. Israel and Iran would both be more than capable of hosting it, but there's obviously issues with using them as a host. The other nations are either even more stringent, or they don't have the means. So if you're going to have it anywhere in the M.E., Qatar is, believe it or not, one of the best choices. So really, you'd have to rule out the M.E. in general.

I assume that you have supporters from any visiting country - if you want stadiums to be full, you'll need 20.000 visitors from each participating country, a very simple arithmetic.
Moreover, Quatar doesn't need the money or a bust of economy, it's one of the richest countries in the world with one of the highest per head income.
