As soon as I read Buddhism, Buddhist temples in India and Sri Lanka sprang to mine, tall buildings with magnificent and glamorous decorations upon them. Of course there are many variations on them..

Buddhist temples are usually based on the Mandala..

It's really creepy to scroll up and down that Buddha temple

Edit: QP well deserved! I'm looking forward to the one with added buildings!

I'll miss the town screens, but personally I think the atmosphere wouldn't be lost too much if they did two things with their current town model -

1. Preserve unique music in each town (which they do)
2. Show town development (i.e. whenever you build a new structure, it appears in the small town screen)

I think number 2 was what made town development such a pleasure in the past. It always felt great to see that your town was literally growing from a fort to a castle

I picked "Remove them completely!!1!" but only because the poll options were written so incompitently.

The third option should say "Doing something new with town screens is fine." or even "Streamlining the game is progress." Watching your mage guild get taller was kind of cool, but you really build in towns so that you can get creatures to sacrifice in glorious combat. I like most of the changes in HVI, including the new town screens. However, I think abandoning HV's initiative system and giving each hero access to all skills were mistakes.

Edit: Gross spelling errors.

dear Santa..
I have been good boy this year.. honestly..
and there is something i wish for Christmas..
a proper interactive full Town Screens like it used to be...
i don't need any 3D features.. just make them full screen ...
make them interactive.. don't let the atmosphere of my beloved game die with a i-pod window screen..
i know it's the modern age now..
and you are pretty much inspired by internet pop-up advertisements,
but you know there is always a place for true Classique Art..
i hope my letter will reach your North Lands..

p.s. maybe even you will add a 6th faction as a surprise for me.. ")
oh come on... i ve seen already the art of Black Dragon, and the Shadow Elemental... why not...
it's Christmas in the end of the day!
Santa i know you can do it!!!

I dont see what all the fuss is about. Did you people seriously spend that much time in towns? I only did for the music, really.

Plus, in this game, towns are still better than Heroes 1,2,3, and especially 4. The only games that did towns better was 5, and they took time to LOAD. Heroes 6 is in beta and I can access all my towns, get done what I need to get done, hear the music, and be done in no time flat.

And speaking of towns, don’t even get me started on the town screen. The town building and improving section of the Heroes series has always been one of my favorite aspects of the game. The really cool 3D town interface of Heroes 3 and 5 were amazing in my opinion. All the different factions had these really cool towns that grew and changed over time as you improved them and built new buildings. There was faction specific music that was associated specifically with the town screens. They were just really well done and added a lot to the game, and a lot of immersion into your chosen faction. Now you just get this very plain, boring 2D picture. This has easily been the most complained about feature of Might and Magic Heroes IV since the first screens started being released. The complaints have only escalated since the beta was released. Go look at the official forums; they’re flooded with people complaining about the town screen. And through it all, Ubi and Black Hole have remained silent. It’s just depressing to see such a downgrade in what was such a great part of the previous games. And with release right around the corner, I doubt this will be changed regardless of how many people complain about it. I guess it’s possible, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Personally, I still think this is a major let down. The videos are ok, I don't get the hate. Stronghold looks mediocre, but other than that they look not fantastic but acceptable. If they could just make the video run in the back round and have the building and hiring screen be over it, that'd be fantastic. Because those are fine. I do think that its a pity that there are no creature dwellings in the screens though. I have to say that the faction dwellings, town portals, market places, forts, and taverns all make nice additions though. By the end the screens don't suck. They just aren't well that exciting.

Increasing the resolution of these cheap pieces of crap will only expose their low quality even more. Just look at Necropolis above. I know my eyes will hurt if this thing is stretched over the entire screen. It needs to be improved more than several times to even become tolerable (read - Heroes IV-like).

I'm just saying, for what towns have been in Heroes since the beginning, essentially a place to recruit units, there's no reason to have huge, amazing town screens. How long did you spend in towns? How long did you spend in towns having ENJOYMENT?

What do you expect exactly - someone to answer you that what you think is universally true? See the poll results, the answer is there. People have various reasons for such voting and there is no need to make them comprehensible for you. You are just playing a parrot repeating the "arguments" of Ubihole for this moronic move which have been proven - as usual - to be explanations of people who have little to no understanding regarding what Heroes is about.
To answer your question - I've spent quite a lot of time in the towns even during long games, especially when there wasn't something important to look at on the map. There.

A LONG time, actually. My first memory from Heroes 3 was the Haven town screen and thinking OMG THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I still miss Heroes 3 Fortress for that very reason - I never found it a particular good town in terms of units, in fact quite the opposite (although I do miss my Mighty Moos), but the town screen had so much atmosphere.

Ironically, one of the only really fond memories I have from Heroes 4 was seeing the Preserve town screen which was on the cover, and thinking 'WOW, this is gonna be amazing', finally an upgrade to Heroes 3. Boy was I in for a surprise and dissapointment. XD

And in Heroes 5 ... I mean, the Academy town screen was my desctop wallpaper for I don't know how long (alternating with the Sylvan). They just looked so beautifu and atmospheric. And the nice thing about the townscreen is that it's a work of art in itself, limited and bound by the fact that it's a frame you see. Unlike the adventure map, which can be pretty, but will never make a nice image in itself, as the map is there to serve a function and it not structured to be enjoyed as an image alone.

And again, you seem to think that 193 voters represent an universal opinion

Show me the same poll with a few thousands more voters and I'll agree with you, but until then, this poll is as much of an "official fanbase opinion" than the vote that claimed the Rakshasa to be the fans' all-time favourite creature

That's the first screen, the other ones didn't look much more filled. They look much better by the end. They aren't exactly wow, but they are around heroes 5 level. Like this is a semi- built Sanctuary. It looks ok. I Do agree that the loss of creature dwellings is a real tragedy though.

It's OK if you looking at it from 2-3 meters Around Heroes 5 level?? This crap is not even around Heroes 1 level. I just can't understand you people - "well, it's okay, it's passable, it's not a disaster, I don't care...". So, no matter what they change for the bad, we must look for a positive side?? If they have decided to turn Heroes into real time strategy? What will be your reaction? "Ehh, it doesn't look so bad, it's passable..." Noooo, no and again NO. I prefer no town screens at all if I have to look at this every time I enter the castle! This crappy pictures are driving me crazy! They look like some noob flash designer made them trying to experiment with some curves and lines...

P.S. - And I'm pretty sure that a poll with 1000-2000 results will show exactly the same!

Most likely yes But it's funny how people can use a non-representative poll and try to make it say "universal" opinions. There's a general consensus towards saying that H6 screens are ugly, but there are a lot of people who, like Clem, just don't give a f*ck about how they look because it's only a minor part of the game for them.

As much as I consider the H6 town screens to be a disgrace to the serie, I don't consider them as a huge part of the game - unlike Daklord and Dark-Whisperer or even Alcibiades Everyone has his/her own approach to the game and for me, town screens are NOT what will make me buy or not the game, but it's the game mechanics, the balance, etc... Aesthetics have rarely been an important factor for me because they are in no way determining the gameplay.

For me, UFO1/2 are the best strategy games ever despite them being ugly, I prefer Doom over Quake or over any current FPS, I also spend more time playing some very interesting flashgames over some of those big computer hits with fancy graphics.
