how does he say that it would change "significantly"?

he even says that the HAVEN town window was a placeholder AND NOT the Necropolis one

most likely the one I posted with necropolis is probably going to have very few changes and the necropolis seen in that screenshot is probably final since it was animated (NOT interactive!) in the Igromir video

OK, will you finally tell us where did you see/read that the town windows will CERTAINLY differ significantly from those from the trailer in question

This this link here, smart guy. Q&A with Marzhin
Particularly note the date it was posted.
Brilliant! I've read this at least 10 times through these 6 months or so and of course there is nothing else you can say as there is nothing else to say. Now pay attention - this post is regarding the FIRST released trailer that had the HAVEN town window which actually had NO animated screen in it at all but a placeholder SCREENSHOT. Are we clear so far? Hope so. Now, I asked you to give a confirmed info about your shouting that the final version will be "nothing like this". Either show something substantial or stop posting "wise guy" stuff trying to teach the others what they should say or think. Mkay?

He doesn't say the Necro one in that demo build was the final one either.
Edit: Removed an erronous part, it was a different build then the one I was thinking of, point still stands.

The only shot we have of Necropolis was the pre-alpha version which was confirmed to be a placeholder.

do they actually listen to the community? they give us beautiful screenshot, but that's not to hear any critic, that's just for us to say how beautiful they are?

is there anything they changed in their initial plan because of fans complaints?

What? Were you even around when the first videos were released?'

THE VERY FIRST Heroes VI videos and soon after that, the Igromir video, showed:

1. First the Haven town window which showed A SCREENSHOT of the adventure map model. Marzhin stated above that the HAVEN TOWN WINDOW was a placeholder, which it obviously is as there is NO ARTWORK but a SCREENSHOT in its place.

2. Then, in the first video of H6 we saw, the Haven town is CONVERTED into a Necropolis town. The hero Sveltana opens up the NECROPOLIS TOWN WINDOW and guess what it shows?

1. It SHOWS NO screenshot!
2. It SHOWS AN ANIMATED ARTWORK of the Necropolis town.

So let's use logic now.

So if the Necropolis town window, which has never been said to be a complete placeholder, was a placeholder - then why did not it just use a screenshot of the Necro town?

NO.

The Necro town window showed a full animates artwork. Why would they put that in if it was a placeholder?

I can promise you, when we see an official image of it, the Necro town screen will be EXACTLY as it was seen in that video OR have very minor changes. There is no point to spend time on an animated town artwork thing and then just scrap it. If it was a placeholder, they would just have used a screenshot of the Necro town model.

Plus Marzhin said there, AGAIN, that the HAVEN town window is a placeholder and NOT the Necropolis one.

I have to say this is the first thing I REALLY dislike about the games progress. Why not have the option to choose? Either fullscreen which should be on by default, and let those people who are bothered by the 1 second load(or have really slow pcs) choose a simple window without the animated screen.

Let me ask the interviewer if he can cast more clarity over the matter. I'll get back to it if I get more information.

Edit: I asked him about the town picture changing as you build and if you can interact with it. This is what he answered (my translation):
"I have myself played a mission in the game, and by clicking on the town you were shown an overview of the town in a little 'pop-up'-window. Here you could build new buildings, recruit units and see a picture of your town with it's different facilities. When you build something new it will show up in this window, but not in full screen. Thus the town picture also changes. All interaction happens through the new, smaller menu."

So new buildings will actually show in the town picture, which is a very big plus for me. But all the interaction will happen through the menu just as I suspected. Also, he referred to the window as little, reaffirming my suspicion that the size will be the same as the one we saw in the pre-alpha version. That clears up some of it I guess.

That, or they decided to animate the Necro placeholder screen because that's the one you'd actually be using in the demo build!

You're supposed to present SOMETHING more then JUST a screenshot if it's an important part of the demo, the Haven townscreen was not relevant, players wouldn't be using it.
The necro one however it would have been very jarring, so they decided to spice it up a bit.

Not saying that's what happened, saying that's a perfectly valid explenation.

Once more, nowhere have devs stated that the igromir clip shows the finished necro town screen, just because they say the haven one was just a placeholder screenshot doesn't mean the necro one wasn't also a placeholder.

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

Now could people just trust Cepheus when he said we should not pass judgement untill we see an accurate screenshot?

Edit: Thanks Yeal and Bruk, that does add some clarity.

What do you think will change between this pre-alpha version and actual finished window?
Size? I don't think so.
Proportion? Larger animation panel smaller buttons? It would still be too small for my taste. Even if entire window of that size is occupied by town art its just too damn small.
I really cant think any smart solution for window to be as detailed and interactive as full screen.
How will this feature help us feel the immersion and atmosphere of the game?
How can this window be more functional when everything is cramped on 30% of the screen?
What can UBIHole pull out of the hat for us to say - "Hey, this is actually great idea and it works better then anything before. YAY!"?
What is their brilliant plan that we cant understand until we see actual window?

Thanks Yael, that clears up a lot.
So what we know is:

1. EVERYTHING is managed on menus. This means that you CAN NOT click on buildings etc.

2. The screen is rather small as expected.

3. YOU WILL see the town evolve when you construct buildings through the menu. This is a relief, but all the negative things about this overwhelms that ten times.

What? But they use a normal screenshot of a Haven town for a Haven town window. Why would they spend time to make an entire animated full image of a Necropolis town which looks awesome, and then just throw it into the garbage?

Your argument that Haven was not relevant in that demo is kind of bad because during that press release, when we saw a HAVEN MAP, the Haven town window STILL used the adventure map model and it was certainly relevant there.

The devs did not say that the Necro town ARTWORK was the final one, but they did not say that it was a placeholder either. They have however, specifically said that the Haven town window which looked more incomplete than the Necro one, was a placeholder.

Yaeliccc, I was going to post the answer in this thread as well, but good thing you already did The journalist tested the game in Budapest, so it's not so long ago, and not much seems to have changed from the earliest pictures we've seen.
But we did get an answer to buildings showing up in the town picture (YES!) and interaction with the picture (NO).

Edit: I would gladly wait until August if it meant the developers would get enough time to have proper town-screens in place.

One more thing - before there was that first rant about town windows, exact phrase "town window" was used only once in that Marzhin's facebook interview, so whole window/screen mess was unclear even then.
For me Facebook is not my primary information source about games and that interview wasn't even that easy to find.
Why this major change wasn't announced as clearly and timely as reduction of resources, area of control, number of towns and so on...

It just shows that the devs don't really think this is a major change. It's just a small step on the way of not making us city planners and micro-managers.

don't speculate on this! otherwise some people may believe you...

EDIT":
so summing it up!

GOOD NEWS:
-Buildings WILL appear on the town screen!
-Art of the town WILL be awesome

BAD NEWS:
-It IS going to be in a SMALL window "pop up"
-There WON'T be any interactive town screen, everything done using menu

Marzhin's post in Aug 2010:

" - Town screen: there is still a town screen, or more accurately, a town window. Each town still have its own theme music and all. It is a 2D, animated town screen. The Haven town screen was part of the missing elements, that's why it was replaced by a mere screenshot for the demo.

- You can see more info about a city on its 3D model on the adventure map (not just its town hall and if it has fortifications). You can learn a lot about your adversary's strategy just by observing how he developed his towns. "

Well, if each town will have it's own music theme, there should be some sort of solidarity and feeling of being "inside" the town....

Except that's also speculation, it has not been confirmed, it hasn't been denied either admittedly but that's not the same thing as confirming it.

Just try to not judge the thing untill we have an up-to-date screenshot.
Once we have an accurate screenshot we'll see.

Untill then we don't know that much yet.
Yes, it's very likely it'll be terrible and people will rage, but please don't talk in absolutes.

Other then a few ambigious statements open to interpretation and pre-alpha screenshots we don't have much to go on.

Hey, I asked the journalist from Gamer.no if the town window he saw was the same as in the pre-alpha version (showed him the picture). He said it didn't look exactly like that. He could for example not see any overview of what you could build. It looked more like the result of right-clicking the town or something like that.

So at least some work has been done, and we've got SOME positive news regarding the issue. But they are still WINDOWS!
