"Potential" to be the best Heroes ever

Yes, you read it right, i'll tell you why I'm saying this game may become, through time, the best HOMM game ever.

First of all, I'm kinda an old time homm player (26y old and playing it since 98), but eventually got bored of it and never came back - til HOMM 5.

My first try with Heroes of Might & Magic VI was quite bad. I tried the demo, felt it was badly simplified and uninstalled. But then, I wanted to buy the sole HOMM I didn't own - Heroes 6.

So I bought the Retail Deluxe edition, and installed the game.

Since then, I'm enjoying A snowING TON this game. Really.

Pros :
_Amazing art direction
_Amazing animation
_Amazing soundtracks
_Amazing creature choice
_No more random factor - that were more a problem than an strong point
_Amazing creature abilities - each creature is more strategic now
_Epic "territory" concept

Cons :
_CRAPTON OF BUGS !
_Extremely imbalanced
_No simultaneous turn in multiplayer
_No choice between auto-fight or fight against Neutrals
_Very few content - factions, units, neutral are not many
_No Town view
_No more mage guild !
Life drain metagame is boring
_Sloooow meta game

Yet I enjoy this Hero probably even more than I did with Heroes 2.
If they could just add 3-4 factions, simul turn, balance, and clear bugs, It would be my fav Heroes game.
No joke.

Given the quotation marks, I assumed that the title was an ironic statement since that sentence has showed up a lot lately.

Eeeeh... to each their own, I guess.
Personally, I consider the art, creatures and music to be among the games' weaknesses, but a lot of people don't share my point of view.

I suppose some people are so disappointed that they have to come with such justifications to prove to themselves that they weren't totally stupid to buy it

I agree with the OP that this game has the potential to be one of the best ever.

I still think the factions need more flavor and uniqueness in their talent trees.

Well, appart from Heroes 2 (which is still my favorite), Heroes 6 is the best on its positive points (overall design, cinematics, sounds and so on...).

But you know what ? I recieved a survey from Ubisoft which asks how you feel about heroes 6 : I think they recieved ALOT of complains (which I can understand considering I have had game breaking bugs already).

Just give it time. The core gameplay in this Heroes is one of the best.

My only gameplay complaints : No more diplomacy (it worked 3-4 times out of 50 hours i have put in the game).

In older Heroes as long as you get Expert diplo, every stack can join you.

Yes, it has the potential, but I fear it will take many patches and expansion packs.

Great thing about HOMM series is that you can always go back to your favorite entry if others leave you unsatisfied.

I treat each part as a stand alone game and thus end up happy in most cases.

Homm2 : Nostalgia + core elemnts
Homm3 : Refined Homm2 formula with neceseary updates
Homm5 : 'Perfected' Homm2/3 formula and added great stuff
(I find TOE is worthy to be HOMM series flagman even thou Homm3 is wery close with it's solid , easy to play hard to master gameplay )
Homm4 : New ideas are needed . Even thou it didn't apeal to most , it did provide vision of different/interesting Heroes + THE music .
Homm6 : Atmosphere - when you travel through jungle and rivers it does feal like adventure not just tactical gathering of stuff...

For ppl who don't value graphics Homm6 will be inferious to Homm2/3 etc

For ppl who don't want deep gameplay , but fun and colourfull adventure 5/6 is a deal

TLR each Homm bring something good to gamers and even thou 6 is in bad shape atm , i have blast in Campagne ( Only it does crash **** alot XD )

When I try to think of pro's for the game, they all come with a "but...".

For example:

PRO's

- Great creature line-up's but some duplicate creatures.
- Great graphics and animations but compared only to the older games of the series.
- Great tactical depth in combats but some of the abilities are so overpowered that they make everything easy.
- Nice to eliminate the random skill level-up but it sucks that the skill tree is the same for every class.
- Good idea with Blood and Tears paths but it sucks that only main heroes can get them.
- Good idea with a dynasty weapons but it sucks that it's only them or nothing.

Now I would refrain from making a list of cons, cause it probably would be endless.

I thought it had the potential to be the best game of the series, when it was still in development and I used to be saying that here all the time.

However, what I did not know then is that on whatever they kept their mouths shut, was because they had nothing good to say. And so some things they did not say anything about, but everyone of us took for granted in the Heroes, weren't there after all.

Now though I still consider it has the potential to be the best yet, in my opinion now it struggles not to be the worst. There's some cases that I consider even H4 better than this. Fundamental changes need to be applied for it to go back to the right track and I doubt that they're gonna do them but I don't consider it impossible.

Wait and see but next time, I will be singing to Ubisoft/Black Hole "No more Heroes anymore!". I wanna see Black Hole gone at least and if possible, Ubisoft too.

I do think Black Hole did a much better job than Nival, despite the rather shaky release of H6.

Given how they ef'ed up every other game they made so far, I doubt they're up to the task on saving this one. And no, Nival did H5 ToE which is my very favorite in the series. So I got to love Nival.

Obviously Tote is better than H6 right now, but at the release? I'm inclined more to H6.

I've seen a lot of games that had "potential" to become great games despite a pathetic release ... not many succeeded ... Games rarely survive a failed launch.

Ubisoft is one of the giant developers / distributors nowadays
Ubisoft just released a survey about Heroes 6 satisfaction yesterday
Black Hole is said to work hard for 1.2 patch
HOMM 6 sold a surprising number
The survey asks for which factions you prefer with potential new races for expensions

Also don't forget Heroes 5

Time will tell.

I completly disagree. Think the gameplay in H6 is great and fresh. Playing this series since part one thats kinda important for me. What they buthered is polish(=bugs)and lack of sim turns. Even balance isnt too bad, i think only thing standing out is undead being ez mode and inferno sucking. Thats nothing new to any fresh game.

Yes, but that's because the parts of the game we two like are more or less exact opposites of each other. You focus very much on the combat, specifically the big you vs. enemy encounter, and I don't say that there's anything wrong with that, just that they made the game extremey streamlined on that one single aspect and pretty much took all the rest away.
