As Bob begins to lead the way you both hear the rapid foot falls of someone running this way. After a tense second, Julio comes around the corner. He's cradling his left arm against his chest and limping slightly, but despite his obvious pain he smiles when he sees you two. "Sarah, thank God you're alright!" He says before leaning against a building and sliding to the ground.
The snake opens its eye again, seems to shrug at the sight of your bodyguard, and goes back to sleep.
Veronica
You catch a glimpse of all of the national guardsmen, or at least allot of them, standing behind some pretty hefty fortifications, and the sound of gunfire can be heard loudly in the air. As you look to the left and right, you see that there is a guard standing outside of your tent, and he's looking down at you with a mixture of shock and horror.
"What are you doing?" He hisses fiercely, "Get back in the tent, quickly!" Out in the field, the beggar that had been dragging himself away from the city was now laying in a pool of his own blood.
Evangeline
The demon moved so quickly once you stopped shooting that you don't really know what happened. You could feel the bat being torn from your grip and heard the crunch of wood before the ground was rushing up to meet you. There was a blur and the sound of shattering cement next to your head as the demon crouched above you, still smiling. "Enough." It said, still a little mirthful. It turned its head to spit out some wood chips, and you are able to catch a glimpse of sunlight through the bullet holes in its body. None of them are bleeding. "Now then little girl..." It said, leaning in until their faces were almost touching. "How about we play a little game?"

Sarah rushed over to Julio and got down on her knees in front of him, one hand touching his chest. "Bob, he is bleeding. Do something!"
Julio reached one hand up to cover hers. "I don't think I will last more than a day in this condition, Sarah." he hissed, his voice harsh and broken with the pain he was experiencing merely speaking the words. He reached down to his side with the other hand and pulled his gun out of the holster, then pushed it into Sarahs hands. "Take this, run. Get out of the city while there's still time! I will keep them off your back for as long as I can."
He pushed to his feet, one hand trying to sustain the bleeding and the other holding onto Sarahs shoulder. Together they hurried away before the serpent got angry and hungry.

Veronica calmed down a bit. There seemed to be no immediate danger. She feigned a weak, helpless voice which considering her condition was not all that far from the truth.
"Sorry, I heard a lot of noise. Is everything alright out there?"

As you run, Julio actually seems to be getting healthier. His limp slowly goes away and soon he no longer needs to lean on you to run. A loud "Snap" comes from his wrist and your bodyguard falls to his knees after crying out for a second, before holding up his hand in wonder. His wounds are almost all completely healed by this time... Bob's response? He runs away to a safe distance (rather comically since he's sort of a chubby guy...) before looking back to see if anyone is following. Random miracles aren't normal, after all.

"Nothing is alright." He pushes your head back in gently, looking around to make sure no one notices. "Stay in there, I'll explain soon."
Now that you are somewhat stuck in this tent, you actually take the time to look around. This appears to be a medical tent, bottles of anesthetic and antibiotics are neatly organized all around you, a stretcher is in the corner, and other medical supplies are plainly visible as well. Unfortunately, it looks like the only exit is through the flap that happens to be guarded right now, and fighting is probably out of the question...

Realizing that things are quiet enough for her to rest (and that she can't get out anyway), Veronica lied down on the bed. After looking around she got back up and went through the drugs on the shelves and tables. Finally she pocketed a small bottle of anesthetic, adrenaline and a couple of syringes. The she lay on the bed again and took the time to rest a bit until the guard comes back.

Evangeline could barely focus. There was a strange echoing buzzing in her head. She could hear noises, but they sounded so far away or like she was under water.
She saw the demon bend down and lean so close, Evangeline could almost taste its hot, spicy, acrid breath as it silently spoke to her. She couldn't make out what it was saying. She wanted to get up and run, but she couldn't move. Her head felt wet.
She focussed on the demon and its evil wide smile, its sharp, yellowed teeth and piercing eyes that made Evangeline want to urinate. Another wave of acrid breath hit Evangeline. The stench was unbearable, "have some fun", was all she caught.
"Oh Lord, move girl!", her mind screamed .......... but Evangeline was stuck fast to the asphalt.

You find what you need rather easily and are soon able to get in your rest. You awake to someone gently shaking your injured shoulder, which you put up into the air while you were sleeping to keep the pressure off of it.
"Hey, you need to wake up now." The voice that went with the shaking was nowhere near as gentle. It sounded harsh, raw. Like it had been shouting for a few hours. As you wake up you can hear the sound of gunfire, but it is slowed down from before. Outside it's dark, lit up by only a few lamp lights every once in a while. Inside the tent there are three soldiers, presumably the ones that picked you up from the river. A lamp sways slowly above you, and another soldier is pulling out a roll of gauze.

Suddenly the demon is off of you, and you are given time to recover. It picks at the black shards that pass for its teeth, pulling out wood chips as it leans sideways in a physics-defying manner on the... air... It was like he was leaning on a building, but not. "So there are two ways we can do this." It said, looking at its claws, "One: I just kill you right now and move on, or two: We play a little game of cat-and-mouse." From the enthusiasm it put into its words, the demon liked that second option far better.

Veronica got a bad feeling. Three armed soldiers stood above her. All of them men. This could end up very badly. Unfortunately she couldn't see a way out of this. Instead she sat up in her bed and asked:
"Wha... What's going on? Did something bad happen?"

Bilbo, quickly glancing around the room, takes the cup of coffee, sniffs it, shrugs, and waterfalls it until its gone. Only then does he notice the small ball of fire, and moves away from it, watching it intently to see if it reacts.

The men look at each other for a second before telling you, "The demons tried to come over the wall, we pushed them back." The one talking is speaking slowly, deliberately. He has a practiced calm around him, but the illusion is shattered if you looked at his hands. They trembled slightly, and once you noticed that you could see that his eyes never stayed in the same place for more than a few seconds.
"And probably killed dozens of human beings in the-" Another began angrily. He had a rifle strapped across his back, and he fiddled with the strap nervously as he spoke.
"Shush!" The third growled, voice dangerously low. "For all we know, she is one of them. We can't let them know that we're onto their game..." He stares at you suspiciously, the hints of madness dancing in his eyes as his hand is held over the pommel of his pistol.
Bilbo
As you look at the flame, you get the feeling that it is starting to look back. A low hiss, like the leaking of a gas main, can be heard coming from it, growing louder the longer you stare. Outside, there is an insectile chittering as the other demon finishes with what it was doing and it begins to look around for that pesky man that got away.

Bilbo nervously edges away, trying to keep quiet. He starts moving toward the fireplace to see if he can climb up and out of it; the fire, which he still carefully watches, is making him decidedly nervous, and Bilbo feels he would be best served by quickly getting out of there.

Something bad indeed was going on, but not the kind of bad that Veronica expected. What's more, she was getting angry at the whole situation and at the 3 stupid men standing around her.
"What the HELL are you going on about?!", She snapped at no one of them in particular.

Sarah gets down on one knee beside Julio, holding his healed hand. "Oh Julio!" she exclaimed. "It truly is a miracle, we must be blessed by the Gods! This means we are meant to survive this, and maybe more; we might be destined to conquer this evil, to banish it from out world! And I may become the first female president of the USA!"
Julio looked her deep in her eyes. "That may be so, my lady, but for now we need to get you out of here and to safety. We cannot stay in this city! Come with me, let's go!"
They keep on running, Bob as far ahead as he is able to, keeping as close to the walls as possible.

Suddenly Evangeline found she could move. The demon was reclining on the ground as though it was sunbathing. It was hardly interested in Evangeline at all.
Evangeline heaved herself up, struggling on weak legs, hampered more by the excess weight she carried. She instinctively grasped at the handgun in her pocket. She unsteadily backed away, all the while watching the sunbathing monstrosity, as it rolled on its back like a dog offering its stomach for a scratch.
Evangeline backed all the way back to the wrecked Cutlass. Opening the passenger door, she grabbed Mimi's travelling case and gently lifted her out. Placing the fat Pekingnese on the ground, she patted the dogs fat rump and whispered, "Go baby, hide". Mimi responded by plonking her ample posterior on the ground and yawned. Evangeline looked up and a bolt of horror crashed through her, as her eyes met the demons. It was watching her, still on its back. But those eyes, so cold yet burning into her like a red hot poker had instantly caused Evangeline to evacuate her bladder. And Evangeline wished she had not put on light colored pants.

As you continue looking at the flame, the hiss grows to a dull roar. Just as your eyes can no longer stay open, you blink and a heat can be felt from between your legs. When you open your eyes again, the fire is no longer in the middle of the room, but is now between your legs and back to its original size. For some reason, you get the impression that the flame is somehow confused, and that once you start staring at it again it somehow knows where you are and begins to hiss again.
The centipede-like demon that is following you is just outside the hole you crawled through and you can hear a loud snuffling sound. As if the monster is tracking you down by scent. It doesn't seem like the monster will stop tracking you down just yet... Maybe you won't be able to run from it anyway. The door handle is melted, on inspection, and the door itself is in almost perfect condition and made from oak. There is no way for you to break it down.

The violent man pulls his gun out of its holster and yells, "What did you just say snow? Did I give you permission to talk?! What-" He falls to the ground, unconscious and missing a few teeth as the guy who had woken you up smashes an elbow in his face.
"Sorry about that, he's a little high strung." The man shrugs, "Well, we all are most likely. Now what do you want to know, specifically. Because if we're going to get you out by dawn, I can't tell you the whole story."
Sarah
Somewhere along the line, Bob must have heard something big or terrifying because he suddenly runs blindly away, and despite your best efforts to follow him your cut up feet cannot keep up with the man, fat though he might be. Julio refuses to leave you behind, so you are forced to watch as Bob, running like a mad fool, disappears around a corner while you can do nothing. Julio resets the bandages on your feet since they are bloodied and torn from your run and he carries you into the back entrance of a restaurant, kicking the door down in two sturdy blows. He sets you down on the kitchen counter before saying, "I'll look around for something that can help. You stay here Sarah. And if anything comes in... yell for me."

The demon moves slowly, walking towards you with a light, if still evil, grin. "So, let's stop messing around and play our game. Here are the rules, you get ten minutes to run and hide anywhere you want. If I can't find you five minutes afterwords, then you and your little... snow are free to leave and will not be bothered by legion in any of his parts. Oh, and you have to tell anyone that you cross that I'm offering a chance to survive this hell hole. Yes, more games would be fun... You get three chances to win, by the way. After that... well, Legion isn't the only one that likes to get his hands dirty. Deal?"

With a loud oath, Bilbo recoiled from the flame wildly, his eyes wide open. He decided that whatever that thing was, he did not want to stay with it much longer. Sweat trickled down his face as he looked for an exit; the snuffling of the worm was beginning to unnerve him, and the flame was actually scaring him, despite not doing anything. He quickly strides over to the fireplace and looks up the chimney, to see if he can climb out.

Veronica had mixed emotions about the calmer man hitting the crazed one. She was glad she stayed out of trouble for now, but she could've used the opportunity to relieve some tension and kick the crap out of that annoying basterd.
"Look, if you're going to get me out of here by dawn... alive and well, you can keep your secrets and don't tell me anything. The only reason I wanted to know what's going on in the first place was so I would know what to be ready for."

The hissing flame stops hissing the instant you look away, which gives you a crystal clear song from the giant insect that just found the hole you crawled through. It screeches out a high pitched chitter and tries pushing itself through the hole... which is too small for it, as you thought.
You check the "Fire place" only to find that it is a fake, installed to give the first floor apartment building a more "Homesy" feel. And that is when you hear a peculiar chipping and scraping noise and notice that the centipede is slowly ripping its way through the wall by making the hole larger. It will be through in maybe half a minute. When The large demon's gaze falls on the flame, the flame starts hissing again before the insect's mulch-faceted eyes focus on you. Just like what happened when you looked away, the flame stops hissing immediately.

The soldier nods. "Fair enough. If anyone in the camp sees you besides us and the supply driver that's going to get you out of here, we're all dead. Can you keep yourself hidden and obey my cues?" He asks this with a serious face, eyes hoping that you will say yes.
The other soldier kicks his angry friend in the face, and you hear a little "Pop" as the man's head turns too far, leaving his neck at an odd angle. "You two get out of here, I'll... take care of this." His companion, the calm man, is about to yell at the second soldier but is cut off as the second soldier heatedly tells him, "When he woke up he would have told the captain, and all three of us would be dead. I didn't have a choice."
Your protector gives him a harsh look before turning back to you. "We'll talk later. You, girl, are you able to take orders?"

Getting really nervous now, Bilbo quickly jogged to the door near the wardrobe, sweat trickling down his forehead as he went. He held on to his kitchen knife to reassure himself, despite knowing it would do absolutely nothing against that thing behind him.

Why on earth did you think there was anything in the wardrobe? In the time you wasted searching, the Centipede has burrowed halfway through the concrete and cries out in triumph as it sees that it is drawing close. As you walked past the flame on your way to the wardrobe, the Centipede's eye had cast over the flame once again, and the small fire hissed like it had before.
