i appreciate the recommendation gentlemen, but i don't want or need another qp. besides, i haven't released anything new yet.

if i get another one before i release anything anyway, i guarantee you that i will do something naughty just to lose it. just so you guys know.

i'm still organizing the new patch folder, and it is tedious work. i've had to go back and start again 2x, because of missed stuff/issues popping up with different object categorization, and because i had to recategorize everything that stemmed from HotA objects(i had put all of them into one bulk folder), which screwed existing progress.

i plan on getting a job soon; if that slows progress to a crawl, what i may do is release the patch folder(with all the defs) to someone else, who(through good will) could create the objects.txt file, and compile and release the patch, and get them a qp for it. that's if i get a job, and if it nearly halts progress, though. i hope it won't, but i don't like taking so much time to release something that has been advertised for so long.

probably post porn and/or human gore. and i would post something both racist and sexist, and all of the curse words would be uncensored. i'd probably end up getting penalized more than once, for various offenses.

if i knew for sure that i would get multiple penalties, i might just post hardcore porn. that would be the most proper/responsible thing i could do to get a qp taken away.

don't get me started, noobx. i'm already feeling this idea. i'm like a loaded gun, and somebody's got an itchy trigger finger.

still organizing and updating the patch folder. a couple new things for display, as well:

2 new shipwrecks(made yesterday). one for reefs, and one beached version:



next, i was inspired by this beautiful artwork to make a magic environment. first, i had to find adequate pixie/lightning bug lights(something i was going to add anyway). then i had to manipulate existing stuff to lay a base terrain down. so far, i have this:



i'll have to fix all of the base terrain stuff by adding a layer of fog overtop of everything(including a glowing fog for the lakes and whatever water i can add), but i think ya'll get the idea. i have to make trees and whatever else just for this environment yet; but i'm only tinkering at this point.


i've been organizing stuff in the patch folder as i go. i started out with just adding everything into their respective terrain column folders, but it's gotten more intricate than that; because i want things filed correctly. i want to have the entire folder organized and everything named at least, in case i get this job i applied for yesterday; and have to hand the remaining work of creating the objects.txt file, and making the upload, off to someone else.

Great! This looks like some alien terrain, it can be combined with alien towns, like Covenant

still updating. i've tweaked the naming convention again, but luckily i didn't have to go back and rename anything when i did(like i did with every dirt terrain object). i fixed the raw crystal sulfur resources, and their open-pit mines, as well as the silver mines, the snow dragon utopia, and the snow sphynx; and i'll be fixing/tweaking whatever else needs to be tweaked as i go. i've got 691 defs renamed, 3,655 to go. but all of my focus is on the patch now.

evolving the naming convention as i go(and hopefully all obsolete renaming is done):

F X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 X6 X7

X1, X2= terrain assignment: Di, Sa, Gr, Sn, Sw, Ro, Su, Vo, Oc, Al (all-terrain), To (towns), Mo (monsters), He (heroes), Ar (artifacts), Tr (treasure), Dt (dragon terrain), Ft (Fear terrain), Pl (planeswalker/space/alien terrain).


X3 = functional, decor(non-plant), bridge, shell, plant, carcass/corpse, resource, terrain, mine, or Z(non-map stuff, like roads, townscreen objects, etc)
(F, D, B, S, P, C, R, T, or M).

-IF RESOURCE OR TREASURE, NAMING CONVENTION IS DIFFERENT:
F X1/X2(terrain) X3/X4(resource), X5/X6/X7(number); since there will never be more than 999 of any specific resource/treasure.

naming convention for resources/treasure:
Cf (campfire)
Me (monster egg)
Wo (wood)
Me (mercury)
Or (ore)
Su (sulfur)
Cr (crystal)
Ge (gems)
Go (gold)
Si (silver/mithril)

Nice stuff My favorites: floating islands with teleporters, dwarf treasury, Lavabiome/objects, dragon utopia variations, swamp overgrown streets, fairy realm, the jungle stuff, dragon gold/mithril worldmap treasuries, the new ore mine (super realistic), holy grounds, and the deep sea/sets for sea... I would apreaciate everything in hota <3

I personally would love the day/night cycle in homm3 like the shadowed stuff you released, every even day = day, every odd day = night and some specialities for some species. Good and evil creatures could perfer day/night for some more tactical advantages (When I attack this round its night, so my good town units are in a slight disadvantage vs. evil town, Troglodytes = no penalty on bright daylight (no eyes), Vampirelords = -15% leech in daylight, wraiths = no mana leech, e.g.). I would also like lightradius and active light for the underworld terrain (hard to implement both, at least when you program it). But thats worth another town/expansion like hota imho, maybe in combination with a deep sea or desert town. <3

Let's hope tons of it will find it's way in hota Your quality is amazing and the progress is promising...  I would really love the variety for my started G map!

maybe some little suggestions:
-Icy Ocean is something I really miss so far, maybe with some little changes on the graphics of page 7 would look great
-Lava objects are so rare, this landscape is actually the most boring imho.
-another mapobject for light sources (brighter) for underground objects.

i have light/dark stuff already in my to-do list, especially for subterranean terrain. but i like the day/night idea. it would be a lot of work to implement graphically, though. i have shadows made for the subterranean terrain, already out in the current patch. check it out, if you haven't already. the new one shouldn't be far off, but until then, you'll have stuff to practice with.

the HotA team have more strict plans for what goes in their add-on(they wish to follow the original HoMM3 graphics to the letter); most of my stuff doesn't fall into line with their plans. some of it does, though(especially the stuff that was spawned from their own work). it's up to them if they want to add it to their line-up; they have my blessing if they do(any team does, as i have stuff that the WoG team and the Succession Wars team could use).

i have ice made for ocean; new ice made recently, as well. from this(which is the older version i made myself), to this, which is the replacement version.

i have more lava objects on the way, as well. lots of different terrain patches. the only terrain i haven't added a lot of different grounds to, is the subterranean ground. i'll be working on them in the future.

i'm on mermaids atm, and i'm having to complete the open ocean versions before i can continue with the patch, as they will be out of order if i wait until later. this issue keeps popping up; i recently had to flesh out my bird collection. i added 3 different marsh birds, and 2 types of tropical birds(toucans and parrots, shown in screen):



i had to tweak the parrot animation in the def, to make them more active than is usual for me when i'm working on creatures. i'm pleased with them; the original graphic was very amateur, and not very animated. i ended up adding two self-made frames, to complete the animation i was going for(i pretty much reinvented the graphic; the original graphic and the finished product is like night and day, by comparison). i have more tropical(any many other) animals on the way, but for now there's a good enough group to go in the patch.

i'm currently working on a black mermaid; i'm having to keep tweaking the body, as the color and contrast aren't quite right yet. the yellow tail i want for her is clashing; i may have to soften the body/fish seperation area. the torso is the main issue, though, as i'm not getting the look right. i think this is the reason i put off making a black mermaid for so long; the body clashes with whatever mermaid tail i add.

regardless, i have to finish the mermaids before i continue renaming(i'm on the creatures folder atm).

i got the black mermaid to look right(took a couple more tweakings). so now i have all the mermaids out of water done, and some of the in-water bases done. i should be able to finish them all today, so that i can continue.

done with the mermaids. I added evil mermaids with serrated tails, as well. I'd post a screen, but the network I'm on atm blocks any image uploading website.

I'm also done with the dock/pier defs. in order for them to appear correctly and function correctly in-game, I had to separate the shadows from all of them, and set the shadows to be "above", as I did the sky islands. I did the same to all of my bridges too, except the bridges that are a part of the roads; I still have them to do(6 in all, so no biggie. I just woke up. ).

I have in the plans stone docks, using the cobblestone patches for the platforms themselves, so that castles and whatever else can be placed over water(I have it set up so this requires no scripting whatsoever). I will have to find a decent stone rim fill(and stone for the pier stands(?), but that should be easy.

first thing's first, though: I have to go back and rename the docks I already named for the patch, to have the shadows fall into line behind their respective defs. there is only one set, they will be used for both the brown docks and the more sun-bleached versions. they're nowhere near as tedious as I thought they would be to actually place, either. so that's good.

all the docks are done, and i just finished the resources/treasure folder. moving on to the grass terrain folder. i've been going from folders with the least amount of defs to the largest. i'm almost halfway done. i only have a couple folders left; the largest being the terrain patch folder, which is in the thousands.

finally was able to upload some pics.

the complete mermaid lineup(with the evil mermaid with the serrated tail):



and, the first group of jungle trees, that i am using to replace the HotA trees i worked on(i kept 4[5, i forgot about the 5th one, which is just a filler anyway. i also kept the trunks i made from the original HoMM3 trees, that i had used for trunks to make the newer HotA trees] of the older versions of the HotA trees i did, version 2 i think):



i like the new trees much better. the reason i kept 4(5) of the older-formula HotA trees is because they had the best, and different enough graphics to be in this set. i may end up replacing them too if i can find something better than them. but they look good enough to use for now.

i'm still working on the grass terrain folder atm. i have a couple of groups to fix, and i'm still deciding on if i'm going to release the grass cliffs yet; as i still have the upper set to do in order to complete it. i'd rather get all the stuff done first, than to come back and finish/add it later. i'm working on a set of mushrooms right now, as my initial work was adequate for my talent a long time ago. i've gotten better since then, and feel the need to blend them to match the other graphics.

finished with the grass and swamp folders, and now i'm on my last folder; the terrain folder. i already had to remove some terrains, as some were sub-par, and others would just delay the release. after removing the stuff i'll complete/fix later, i have 1,000+ defs left to rename.
