cute.

if replacing is all that wog/era is capable of, then i'd say, the platforms need some tweaking(or some add-on needs made to add sounds, as well as everything else). bersy? any progress with that? is era 2 the last update we will see?

coders? anyone out there willing to write programs that can adequately add whatever to era 2?

Era/Wog is not about replacing or adding content, is about being creative using erm language + the tools coming with. Adding towns or/and creatures do not improve the game-play, is still as boring as vanilla, for those among us who played it for long years.

Sure would be great to have the money and the cake but we see is not that easy. Hota adds things but has zero player customization capabilities; wog adds nothing but you potentially create your Heroes III variant, within levels of complexity even recent games can't offer. Which is -from my perspective- thousand times more rewarding and instructive. This doesn't nullify Hota fabulous exploit, but everyone has different needs, isn't it?

I believe Wog team just wanted to fill an entertaining gap between H3 and a genial H5, then gorgeous H6 and so on. Had they known the gap will last 15 years, they probably would have acted differently and consolidate more.

There is no wog team. Bersy did some titan work with Era, now he got a full time job so I doubt he will be back. Some interesting data about 2.47 has been compiled (especially allowing to play vanilla campaigns with mods) + erm fixes, erm help updated, but it all depends on Bersy free time, which is none.

Anyway, I see no problem with what you request. If someone uses your patch and is really motivated to create unique atmosphere, he will find a way, it has been already done.

I think Fred may have asked about the WoG team, not the Era team. Suprisingly, these are different (although many people may think that they should finally merge).

The original wog team is disbanded since 2006. All gone.

I'm not talking about the original one, I mean the actual one. Yet, it also seems to be inactive for a while. When a team coordinator is not motivated anymore, the project is likely to cease. I've learnt this rule after participating in a handful of projects. Pity.

Grayface is a very talented man but his behaviour regarding era is incomprehensible to me. Instead of participating then achieve what he only could do, animated dialogues, he preferred to start alone a megalomaniac project, wog 3.59. Ignoring that everyone around was strongly working on era and basically none were free for joining.

Grayface isn't the only one on the new wog team. people were recruited; i'm not sure of the number, but i know for certain it is more than one. i could have joined myself when they were recruiting, but i was busy with my own work. i sure hope that they have thrown the old way of adding work into the trash bin, as that was far more tedious than era's current way of adding content via a patch, mod, or whatever.

i have my WoG mountains for them, regardless(if they want to use them, anyway), as well as whatever else they wish to use from my patch(subtracting from that, of course, any work i did that originated from the HotA team. i don't want any rivalry issues). i already have some of my work displayed on the new wog team's facebook page(with my permission), so i'm sure they would like to use at least some of my work for their project.

Common, WOG 3.59 is dead. Look for their repository on Github:
https://github.com/GrayFace/wog
Latest commit there is February 2014.
And there is only 1 contributor - GrayFace

https://github.com/GrayFace/wog/graphs/contributors

So forget WOG

Lol, the awesome anti-PR job you do for VCMI by your provocative behavior is one of the key principles for today's modders for not switching to it.

Still snowhurting, that SW is piracy and it was stated by me?
How stating it will stop modders from using VCMI? Which i even didn't mentioned?
I think it's your behaviour that's will prevent users from western countries from using SW Mod. Loudly stating that laws are crap and thanks is all you got for legal issues that will arise will not make good advetisement to SW Mod. I don't even mention reverse-engineering used.

almost all of the mods ever made for Heroes games are violation dude, nobody has permission to make mods any of them except for Heroes 5,
the only one in a position to pontificte on their ethics relative to the official copyright is Ubisoft and as long as you are not charging money they simply do not give a crap, they have not taken action against a free H3 mod in 15 years lol

Well, I guess Ubisoft does give a crap about mods, but in general it's more beneficial to let modders live because they sustain the community and provide additional sales of older games (lesser evil).

Moreover, when a big company sues a single mortal, it's always a hype in mass media and it can give a lot of bad reputation for Ubisoft "pressing simple mortals". The community doesn't react good on such things. Bethesda is infamous for such actions (for example, the site with Fallout posters a few years ago), but Bethesda is not comparable with Ubisoft because Bethesda is a larger entity and its latest games were more successful in general.

I think it was Ubinox or another official who acknowledged WoG and Horn of the Abyss while promoting the garbage official H3HD port and agreed it was a big shame they were incompatible with it lol

Well, I suppose that any Ubi representatives here are just community managers, it's their job to be good and behave professionally. Still, we all understand that it is more beneficial for Ubisoft that we all will buy the latest games and not mod anything so they will be easily able to sell the next sequel Modern business model, no way out.
