Update the small town icons, the brightness is different.

And... can you remove those clouds from the sky where the moon is? Maybe that'll look better.

I'm pretty satisfied with the townscreen in game, except the wolves dwelling, it looks a bit weird.

no prob, lw. you were nearly there yourself, you don't really need to credit me. i'm sure you would've figured out what was needed.

as for the wolves dwelling, the sharpness needs improved(without making the edges too bright). if you are running a program that can control the amount of sharpness, do the same thing you did with the contrast/brightness. work in increments until it starts to resemble the other buildings, and cut the increments smaller and smaller until you reach the optimum resemblance of other dwellings/buildings.

also, the taller building next to what i think is the town hall needs sharpened some, as well, although not as much as the wolf dwelling.

and, happy to help.

I don't know if it's due to making graphics difficulty, but I find that the Romanian town turned into a sad-to-look-at town. Is cloudy, gray, sorrowful, this is not a town I would enjoy (visually speaking) to play.

Romania is a sunny country and its palaces and small towns are gorgeous.

I know, lighter it is, harder is to work on graphics. But I suggest to restart from scratch (now that you have much better experience) and make-if not the most graphical perfect town out-a joyful town to look and play with.

My two cents, as a proud romanian and a lazy towns maker (was never interested in one, probably too hard for my skills).

Well, I guess the project discussed here represents more stereotypical Romania, like it is present in folklore and beliefs of people non-native to it. So I think it's fine to be grimdark, with the vampires and werewolves. People just love to see Romanian town like that - still, there is always a place for a fairy tale in HMM, even if its setting is not so rainbow-ish.

But he has this town full of undead creatures and evil monsters, a sunny town wouldnt fit. If he gives up on the idea of mixing alive and undead creatures (morale problem to begin with) and turns it into a hunter town, which specializes in killing the undead, sunny town may work. That would also be useful since necropolis is overpowered.

Btw the architecture of the building on that pic reminds me a lot of the Empire from Disciples 2 and 3. Would love to see a more shiny town like that in Heroes 3.

He is making Transilvanian town, with vampires and wolves. For it this town is good and in the mood.

But maybe when he will finish current town, he would do light version.
In early stages Romanian town was sunny:

But this will require totally new lineup.

My thoughts are that the textures he used are for a sunny town, and is not by graying/darkening them that suddenly will become an evil town.
For example, if you change the luminosity in rampart, it will not become an evil town, but a sad-to-look-at rampart.

For evilish look, special textures and architecture must be used, smokes, dark clouds and such things. And the main problem is the grass background, placing cemetery on smooth grass is even more weird.

not really. if you look at one of ww2's concentration camps, they look more sad than evil. a mood can be brought about in many different ways. lw's townscreen has a "pending danger" feel to it. it fits well with the creatures for the town, i think. ominous, and not sad at all.

I opted for a grim (not evil) Romanian Town because of the popular opinion. Most foreign people associate Romania with Vlad Tepes=Dracula and vampires which are killed by the sunlight and therefore avoid it. Also our country mythology is filled with evil creatures such as moroi, strigoi, pricolici, varcolaci, even creatures with less scary appearance, such as iele are said to drive people mad and dance in the moonlight.

On the other side, a sunny Romanian town would ignore the stereotypes and introduce foreign people to our marvelous landscapes and maybe attract some tourists ( ). I could even replace conflux instead of rampart (since many people like Rampart and it's one of the classical Heroes towns) and make it an anti-undead town as artu said. But I think I'll do like Macron and release two versions of it ( however that will be pretty difficult)

I love the town design. It kinda reminds me of Underworld and other similar Gothic movies. I've also seen the transition from the first screens to the present and overall it looks much more fluid and natural.

As for the creatures, I like the concepts but I'm don't like that sprites from other creatures are straight up re-used more or less.

I don't have the time or ability to learn and do that. The comment is more or less similar to other comments anyway. Vampire and sharpshooter sprite are used in other settings.

Lizard Warrior doesn't do 3d modelling. He is good in frankensteining.
Yes, parts of graphics are used here. This is how things are.

Well, these kind of stones may be a working idea, in real life, where cemeteries are places we visit our lost loved ones. I hardly think you believe they will work in a computer game, when the undead are evil monsters attacking you, though.

i'm not sure what's been wrong with me lately, lw. i keep screwing up the advice i'm giving you. it's entirely my fault. the following i had to redo, because my advice was meant for coloration, and not sharpness. stupid mistake on my part.

what i meant to say that you need to increase the sharpness with either a sharpness tool set at 10%, and use it until you get the proper sharpness(maybe 3-5 clicks for the town hall, i'd say 5-8 clicks for the wolf dwelling). or, you could use the sharpness button, which will sharpen at a strength of 100%, where afterward you would use the blur tool set at 10%, and used until the excess-sharpness is toned down a bit. the first way is easier, and usually better.

if the wolf dwelling uses part of the background to make it, i would isolate the actual dwelling from the grass, sharpen the dwelling alone, then recombine to make the def. otherwise, you will have a problem with the grass not matching the rest of the terrain near it.

a note i should mention, too:

when you sharpen things, sometimes some colors will stand out(or once-subdued colors will show up much more prominently, creating the effect of "brand new" colors appearing). make sure to go back and select the colors that stand out, and change each seperate color's hue to match what they should match, for the def. sharpening tends to increase the intensity of colors, you may have to dull the color back down after sharpening. but work with the colors that stand out the most first(the ones that show up as seperate pixels, breaking up the image).

Edit: speaking of sharpness, i see you have clusters of grass that are much sharper than their surroundings. if you are going for sharper grass, i would work on the foreground, and gradually make it less sharp, the further back you go. the patches as they are now, stand out too much. on the flip side, you could just blur the sharper spots in increments until the terrain matches.

i hope this advice serves you better than what i posted before. also, your townscreen keeps getting better and better. from now on i will scrutinize my advice before posting, as i don't want to slow your progress. you're doing a great job.
