I know I'll sound cheesy after bashing it, but I'm starting to like this expansion more and more.

Don't get me wrong, I think there is a "high" count of weak cards, it won't probably be a top tier expansion, but at the same time I'm starting to see a lot of variety in the cards and that means there will be a lot of deck building. I know each and every expansion gives hope for that ("Control finally will be a thing" being one of the cliched ones ), but I can see potential in cards like Nightmare Amalgam, Lady in White or Countess Ashmore to freshen things up. Not to mention Odd & Even decks...

There seems to be a method in this madness Like they wanted to dig out some long lost cards or even archetypes. Or it very well might be a "recycle" expansion, cause they are running out of ideas

I went from "this will be bad" altitude to "cautiously optimistic" in a short time span I know, laugh at me if you want

Well we don't want Dr.Boom level legendaries either, remember the bashing Blizzard got then So I am glad there are no powercreeps, but there should be more variety in the cards too. Rush is a great mechanic, it means more fighting for the board. Hoever overall I am not yet super hyped but I am SO ready for a lot of the cards to rotate out. That is the greatest part And the odd-even mechanic is my favorite new thing so far.

Primordial drake is much better than abomination but even geddon I think is better, and a long long time ago, control warrior used to run geddon.

Book of spectres is just amazingly bad, even Aviana seems better at least if she doesn't lose you the game on the spot (99% chance) then u can do something, but with book of spectres is just burn 2-3 cards because what mage deck in the history of hearthstone doesn't run at least 15 spells, and why wouldn't you run spells in the class who probably has the best spells, and where all the creatures have synergy with spells?

Mossy horror is a lot of value in one card, but it is slow, shadow word horror was just better beacuse u could use it on turn 4, if you wait till turn 6 for the same effect u might be dead already.

Book of Specters seems tragic in Mage. It's a type of card that will always backfire on you. Alas as some other people said it might be remotely playable in Elemental Mage - usually it doesn't run that many spells.

I think Team 5 is in a tight spot with Mage. It's hard to design spells in a class that has so many good ones already...

The "monster trio". I actually dig those cards:
- Mossy Horror -> Stats aside it's still a removal that comes with a body. It comes two turns before Primordial Drake and depending on the situation it might destroy more minions then the Dragon. As long as it is able to kill off one Call to Arms "wave" I'm content. Maybe it's also an answer for Paladins "Rebuke"? Too bad it doesn't have Taunt, it would be great then.
- Festeroot Hulk -> this might be good. Play it on a board turn 5 and you might easily generate additional +2 ATK. 4/7 for 5 mana with a chance to grow even more is not a bad deal. Might see play in some aggressive Warrior decks.
- Splitting Festeroot -> hard to evaluate, but it's 12/12 for 8 mana. Because it's a Neutral it can be tried in many decks. And there are ways to "cheat out" it's Deathrattle...

I see a potential for Book of Specters in elemental mage and an oldie Mech mage (that one didnt use that many spells did it?)

About Team 5 having a difficult time designing spells for this class I see your point, but I feel like they have so much inspiration to pick from. WoW has so many spells and flavours they have yet to steal from. Yes they already have strong spells, so making more seems foolish, but maybe they should explore other archetypes from the mage. More arcane? Different takes on fire mage. Revisit frost mage with less OP as seen in the past.

Countess Ashmore - what a great card. First of all the art, the name! I hope for a cool animation.
That being said she is a great Curator for this expansions theme. I think we will see a lot of this girl

Many people have been hating on Glass Knight, and he is truly a boring legendary. I play a heal-control-paladin in Wild where I could easily fit this guy in. He is not an auto-include, but he could fun to play around with. The new Bellringer sentry is great. For wild indeed, but if we see a new secret just as good as getaway kodo that would be just as fine.

Okay with 21 out of 23 legendaries out and with 2/3 of cards released I can say that this is the weakest expansion ever. Minion mage vs paladin or warlock? well gl with that. Rogue gets the worst cards, even worse than druid, sure you might say they are cool but if you think you can do a decent deck with weak echo and burgle cards you are in for a rude awakening.
What it looks like so far is that cubelock, aggro pally, combo priest without dragons, spiteful lady in white priest, rush warrior and some form of midrange secret hunter are the only viable decks. We can be hopeful and add hagatha shaman to that list but that's it.
Odd/even decks will be weak, especially because dk are around and they just get u a better hero power with no real cost to your deck; druid, rogue and mage got absolutely nothing; warlock, paladin and priest will continue to dominate because they were the strongest classes before and even though they lose some stuff the other classes get nothing to compete.
The overall picture is really underwhelming to say the least.

For each good card they slam us with bad cards. Or maybe not "bad", but cards that won't see play or will be frustrating to try to make them work. This is currently my biggest problem with the game: it became too much of a rock-paper-scissors deal. Nowadays I either win by a mile or am wrecked by turn 4. There's no room for some good ol' blow exchangin'.

The biggest problem of this expansion might be that Team 5 won't mitigate the power level of currently dominating decks. Unless meta evolves naturally to counter them, there will be a lot of frustration when facing Cubelock/Aggro Paladin/Priest decks which don't seem to be loosing that much with rotation (especially Warlock).

Maybe their development cycle does not allow them to "respond" to the meta in the newest expansion? What I mean is by the time the current meta shapes, they already have most of the cards designed and they just push with the ideas they had for this expansion, not what the players want cause they're sick of deck X. And here lies the problem with the dissonance between the power level of classes. And the timing. They are not making cards to make class X contend with the currently strongest classes. They are making cards that fit their theme. Add their RNG clownfest agenda and many players are left dissatisfied. Players see an expansion through the lens of how bad it will be vs the current meta, not how much it will build for the expansions that come after it. But that's where nerfing or buffing would come in handy.

And of course we can always get a TGT level of bad expansion. Alas I don't think Witchwood is that bad. There are a couple of cool Legandaries and mechanics. I don't think Echo will be as bad as Inspire or Joust for instance.

Btw we still didn't see all Mage and Shaman cards. For now I would refrain for giving a final verdict on these classes...

It's not such a bad idea, Druids hand is always clogged with cards But as many people pointed out there's no win condition. A few expansion back Druid was this class that overwhelmed opponents with big minions, so it needed to stall till late game. But times have changed.

Those two last revealed cards for the class are interesting and will see play probably. A few Druid cards added in the expansion make more sense now (like the one which generates tokens). That said, their art is so incredibly cool...

Witchwood Piper - I think it will see play. As long as you know what your deck contains this kind of "tutor" card can bring a variety of options.

Bonfire Elemental - another solid Elemental for Mage that will see play.

Arcane Keysmith - at first I thought it's Discover from your deck. That would be bonkers. Still I think it's a nice versatile card that might see play even outside of Secret decks. It's a play worth 5 mana, and Mage Secrets are generally good.

PS: I wonder about second Shaman Legendary. Brode said it's crazy, and there are leaks it's a 9 mana "repeat all Battlecries you triggered this game" kind of ability...

EDIT: I've seen the leaks for both Paladin and Shaman Legendary cards which seem legit. If so their effects are kinda crazy... not much time left until it's confirmed they're real

Shudderwock confirmed and it's bonkers N'Zoth level of impact...

Prince Liam is a nice control option to transform 1-drops late game. And solid stats.

Shaman did get a few new interesting spells and Hagatha actually seems decent when you see her in action.

Priest got more strong cards, but I'm especially liking the Matriarch, even is she turns out too slow.

There is one thing that I must confirm though: the artwork is SO COOL in this expansion. I also love how so many deck types are getting a bit of love, check out that 0/9 Mech with Taunt.

PS: I will definately try Dragon Hunter

Shudderwock is N'zoth for jade shaman, or second N'zoth if u run an n'zoth jade.
Mages got an upgrade to shatter.
Hunter looks really cool this expansion.
Priest looks ok.

Just compare the summon 4 imps card with implosion, I mean warlocks had to get some trash also.

Overall: druid, paladin, mage and rogue got nothing; priest and warlock got some interesting cards; shaman, warrior and hunter seem to be the winners at least in the sense that they got interesting cards.

I really like the 1/3 rush lifesteal beast, it really helps you if u want to run the countess in most decks.

I'm fairly optimistic in opposition to how I was half-way through the expansion reveals.

I know that meta will crush my optimism very fast, as Cubelock (which will be even stronger with Ratcatcher and Dark Possesion) will be dominating and destroying each possible "new deck". But the nerf hammer will hit Dark Pact or Cube very fast, that's my prediction. I hope they won't hit Doomguard with a nerf, it's a unique card. It should be Hall of Fame-ed at most.

What I think?
Druid - it depends if Hand Druid will click. If not this class will be stale unless someone finds a way to create a decent Taunt or Odd deck.
Hunter - it might not have enough tools for a decent Dragon deck but it will be tested nevertheless. Dire Frenzy + Vicious Scalehide (which shapes up to be the MVP of the expansion) will be seen in every Hunter deck.
Mage - Elementals. Sandbinder will help keep the tempo running (time will tell if he isn't too slow, should be 3 mana or at least an Elemental), but the real MVP might be Cauldron Elemental as there is no other solid 8 mana slot Elemental for Mage, and this gives a huge buff to board. Other then that Snap Freeze might be seen in every deck.
Paladin - class will stay strong unless people will hold it in place with more controlish decks. I think we all might've miscalculated on the real power of Silver Sword...
Priest - will stay strong. People will probably try to experiment with Lady in White decks, but I'm a bit scared of Divine Hymn. At its weakest it's a 2 mana 6 heal for your hero. Also there is a potential for "Machine gun" decks with Squashling or Clockwork Automaton.
Rouge - people will try some gimmicky Echo decks, but I agree this class didn't get much. Tess Greymane did not seem as strong as she was on paper without a deck completely build around her.
Shaman - this class will be interesting. Someone will find a way for the "ultimate" Shudderwock play, Hagatha actually generates quite a lot of value (as seen on the livestream) and the new spells are decent. Earthen Might in Ele-decks, Blazing Invocation and Zap will see play.
Warlock - OP OP OP. Even if they nerf Cubelock, we will see a lot of Ratcatchers, Dark Possesions and even Curse of Weakness (in Zoo?) as those are strong tools in any deck.
Warrior - I'm not quite sure for this class. It's completely oriented for Rush mechanic, but on the livestream the thematic deck didn't give me a good impression.

While some classes really did get nothing in terms of meta what I like the most about this expansion is that it leans more towards variety then powerlevel. From competitive point of view it's probably bad, but I'm looking from a "lot of decks to try out" standpoint. There are more playable Epics then bad, at least one Legendary for each class seems ok, and some deck types that I like got some neat new tools (mainly Elementals and Dragons). We also got a lot of "tutors" this time around so this will open some new possibilities for deck building.

Plus the art and flavor are sooo good.

My initial rating of this expansion is 7/10. Might be object to change ofc

Shudderwock is a really good card,I mean broken with jades in wild, but even in standard is very good. Let's just take a normal result, if u only played let's say one witch apprentice, one saronite chaingang a fire elemental and Kalimos for heal, for 9 mana u get 2 6/6, get a random spell, maybe hurt yourself for 3, maybe do 3 damage and heal for 12. That's a pretty good deal already and is nothing fancy. In a very good result you could fill your board with 6/6 minions, deal 3 damage to the enemy board(from kalimos) and get 2 random spells and 2 random elementals.
I think targeted battlecries should be avoided before playing shudderwocck, especially blazecallers.

I believe this expansion will be a great foundation for the rest of the year.

When I look at these cards they all seem to push to a lot of different deck types. Some deck types will be strong from the start, but other archetypes such a odd/even and dragon-Hunter might evovle throughout the year.

I really feel like they have given us a lot of different cards to work with and in a few months we get some of the missing pieces to the puzzle.

I know right? Tutor cards, Lady in White (for long forgotten high health minions), Amalgam which might "fuse" some tribe decks, Shudderwock which might bring some Battlecry cards out etc. Dragons, Mechs, Elementals. There's probably a card for each "Wild" idea

Plus they are constantly improving something in the game (even if its "bait" to keep players around). Daily quest requirements reduction is a huge thing, especially the 5 win or play X card ones. They've also added a nice feature in the form of "deck borrowing".

As thing stand now, I won't be leaving this game for a looong time

EDIT: I've been thinking about Duskfallen Aviana. I know it's a bad card, that will mostly hit you in the balls with it's drawback, but the livestream card reveal actually made me realize that counting out control decks, aggro decks mostly won't gain profit from the effect. Those usually don't have that many cards late game, and are able to play their whole hand without mana discounts either way. Whereas Druid gets a huge boost in his next turns. Play her behind a Taunt wall, and next turn play Splintegraft + your 10/10 minion. I know how this game works, dream scenarios almost never happen, but maybe this card will see some play afterall?

Well, through the years I had like 5 of MG's. After the nerf traditionally I've kept one (as I always keep at least one copy of a card even if it's useless). Now I'll get 400 dust as a bonus after crafting the Golden one. Just enough to craft the second one as it will once again be viable
