I get the salt .. DH is insanely OP and the new cards are gamebreaking already. But they gave us a new freaking hero?! 5 years.. it took them 5 years. Finally. I salute them for taking the step.

That being said when it comes to classic HS, I only play DH and Paladin. The classic HS bores me. But Battleground is so great. Yet, I hate that it is still beta and I fear that the new game mode is BG being official.

There are some very interesting and new ideas in this expansion and I'm glad to see the Team experimenting with stuff. Especially now that they have no problem patching and balancing things several times between expansions.

Holy snow, though, does this expansion look powerful. Watch at least the first couple of clips from here:

Nerfs incoming

I know this is just people trying to figure out what they can do with the new cards and doesn't necessarily represent the upcoming meta, but still...

So basically Druidstone meta with ramping and Gibberling shenenigans... yep it's funny and satysfying when you pull it off, but a few games later of opponents doing the same it becomes "fun and interactive". There are only a handful of aoe working this early in the game so guess it's gg at this point.

52 packs got me 9 epics and 5 legendaries, +1 free for a total of 6.

They are pretty spread out, so I guess I'll start experimenting.

Tried that infamous Gibberling opener. It wasn't even the point of the deck, I just put the package in. When it pulls off, it is devastating. Not even that fun to play either, I just roflstomped my opponents by turn 4. And even if they managed to clear, there was no real way for them to come back from such a beating.

I have started playing Paladin as I got the cards from packs, and Libram Paladin seems most to my liking. It lacks a bit removal which I dislike. But once you have 10/10 minions it is hardly an issue.

That mage spell "Devolving Missiles" though, oh lord it wrecks me hard haha. Luckily enough other match ups are more favorable.

I keep making so stupid mistakes though, I always give my buffs to Priests for example. I don't get it lol.

Liking the expansion so far

I still can't decide which way to go. There are a couple of interesting decks like Soul Fragment Warlock, OTK Raz Spell Mage or *new* Totem Shaman that cought my attention, but I would need to invest a lot of my dust reserves due to completly useless pack opening and I don't want to waste dust on cards that my turn out underwhelming...

For now I'm playing Hearthstone rarely so can't even tell if I'm liking the expansion or not

Well that actually does suck if you didn't open anything to initially make a deck, I did craft Lady Liadrin and second Argent Braggard (2 mana, gain stats as much as the biggest minion) fot this deck but I think that was about it for using dust. I will be happy with this deck quite some time I think, but I am also interested in the Soul-Warlock kind of decks in the future.

Just a look around for a while to see what decks are interesting and then go for it. Personally I am mostly a 1-2 (max 3) deck kind of guy, so that does save me a lot of dust

Edit: Mage is my favorite class, but I can't stand OTK lol, and iirc you don't that playstyle either. So I would recommend against it. Also, it is wrecked pretty hard by aggro lol.

Yep, that's what I'll probably do. I have around 11000 dust so that's plenty to craft something decent. I have a couple of deck ideas from net but first I need to fill some common and rare gaps because I won't craft cards which I'll ultimately get either way. With the new no doubles rule it's just a matter of waiting patiently.

I would like to check out the Soul mechanic but I'm afraid it's a one time venture.

The Mage deck is called OTK but it's an interesting concept based around Potion of Illusion which I got two of in pack lol so that's why I'm thinking about it https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1360687-otk-mage. Totem Shaman is interesting but I can't decide, there are actually a couple of different builds for Wild and Standard.

Hmm, time to blow away the dust from this thread.

Some pretty interesting things announced today.

New expansion (Madness at the Darkmoon Faire) November 17th

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQjG-ffwTek

Old Gods & Darkmoon Faire. Ofc this is exciting theme, as players were speculating Darkoon Faire probably for the longest of times now, and they pair it up with one of the more fondly remembered theme in Hearthstone history. But seeing some of the cards I think devs don't have no brakes anymore... (despite their continious claims that they want the game to be more balanced, yeah right).

New progression & reward system November 12th

https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/news/23534414

I'm not interested in achievements, but I know players have been pestering about it since practically the begining. What I'm interested in is that the daily system has been revamped somewhat in a sense that you now get XP for compelting it, and unlock gold as rewards, while seemingly you don't loose dailies anymore so you can play at your own pace, not everyday (this is what the claimed in the video). Didn't catch all the details, will probably need to see it in action.

My main question that nobody actually seemed to want to answer to is: "what about the progression players did until now"? Is my 5+ years of playing the game amounting to something I wonder (aside from class levels)...

New mode Duels (comes with the expansion)

Soo, Wizard Duels which is basically PvP Dungeon run where you can build your starting deck. Hmmm, actually I will probably try it once and forget about it like Battlegrounds. Wonder what are the thoughts of people who still didn't get Tournament mode...

Probably not. I doubt they kept track of that stuff. Maybe you'll get a one-time XP boost based on your combined hero level or number of wins, but I doubt it. Come to think of it, number of wins has been tracked and it might be important, so maybe that'll help. That being said, you don't actually lose anything, you just don't get a bonus for being a long time player, so I'm fine with that.

What I might be less fine with is the decision to let people build their own starting decks in Duels AND allowing certain Wild sets for it. I'm sure that a lot of people who wanted to focus on Standard disenchanted their rotated cards and now they might feel at a disadvantage. Plus even old players might have missed an expansion or two. And if I remember correctly you can only buy wild packs with cash.

There are a quite a few controversial "features" here. I don't want to echo-chamber the always "ungrateful" players but some of the new things seem to involve making more moneyz...

- the "battlepass" system (kinda similar to MtG Arena). You gain exp until your reach lvl. 50, and then you need to pay for the option to earn more rewards. Nothing new in the field of virtual TCG but for example MtG Arena (which has two exp lanes, one with "normal rewards", other with rewards you get if you unlock the pass) has this second "gem" currency which you can put off (they sometimes give you gems as prizes or at discount), and at some point your able to get such a battle pass for free. The downside is that it is very grindy, you need to invest a lot of time in the game if you want unlock all the prizes (cus it is timeboxed). It remains to be seen if Blizzard will use the mechanic with other currency (I doubt it). And this "xp boost" and various other perks also sounds fishy...
- as you mentioned Duels involves rotating Wild sets. While the premise is that you make a deck from 16 cards (one of each), so you can craft what you need, and the rest is highly dependent on the random stuff, it is still, as you mentioned, pretty underhanded for people who disenchant stuff to keep up with Standard (though at this point it's hard to cover both modes at the same time if you want to f2p). Btw, this will also sound like echo-chambering, but Duels being a rescrapped Dungeon Run, something we've already played a few times, doesn't look like very much of a "new and shiny" game mode, which was oh-so advertised throughout the year...

This'll sound very cliche, but at this point I have absolutely no trust in Blizzard, as they became a company that prioritizes monetization above all else...

As a person who plays the game this long, at this point all I can say is that you cannot keep up with it if you're f2p. You will miss on a lot of cards because the resource costs.

Also about keeping up the information about you... they keep a lot of it. I believe the system that matches you with other players based on your statistics was confirmed by Blizzard itself even. And I don't know if you're getting newsletters to your mail, but there are these mails that provide you with detailed monthly stats, which would suggest they keep a record on everything you do And, this will probably sound very tinfoily, but I also think they have the ability to influence your pack openings

So the new expansion is pretty much all I care about. It is weird that nowadays when I get to Legend I almost stop playing, I just play Battlegrounds. Man I am in love with that mode

But Duels is not for me. I don't really like that kind of format vs AI, so I doubt I like it more enough vs a player to make me interested. Also it will be a balancing nightmare, I don't wanna go there to ruin my day. Also monez.

But old Gods, yay, I like

@Blob. I am a free to player and I have all legendaries I want from all sets. IIRC you said you also sit on like 11 000 dust so what do you mean can't keep up as f2p lol?

Define "all Legendaries I want". It could be 2, it could be 10. Maybe you open the Legendaries you want in packs? I'm usually not that lucky. Your a Priest player so I think its easy for you to complete the list (2 per exp). I'm not attached to one class unfortunately.

I mean not keeping up in a sense of missing out on some cards entirely each expansion.

MtG Arena has a nice way to keep you collection "fresh": on set rotations they give you at least a couple of decks which can successfully be used to win games (and they are not on the cheap side either, they use cards of all rarities, even Mythic). Wouldn't it be nice if Hearthstone simply gave out a few premade decks for players on set rotation? You would get a few new cards, and if you had rest in your collection already, you would simply get free dust. It would be a win win situation for all, old and new players.

It is not that the game does not improve. Oh no, they did a lot of welcome changes: no duplicates is a really great change. That doesn't change the fact that card "debt" raises with each new expansion

Actually why should it even be a problem for them? They keep all the data on their servers, they can manipulate it however they want. This is just an assumption, simply because it would be very easy to do if they wanted, it's no more then a simple line of code. Add a few "ifs" add a few variables and viola
