The mercenaries mode was confusing. Is it still card game related? He was sounding like it was an rpg type thing

Schools of magic looks good and was a long time coming.
They seem to push hard the idea of cards that grow stronger with time: spellstones, omega cards, echo, corrupt and now ranked spells. I kinda dig it. It helps blur the line between aggro and control just a little bit.

I also like that they buff under-performing basic cards to combat power-creep. As long as they keep Silverback as he is.

My guess is that's going to be akin to Slay the Spire. Rogue-like rpg, but with card based combat.

Well if they want to keep on growing they need to try new ideas. Battlegrounds, although technically still card-based, is kinda a diffrent game all-in-all, cus some people aren't even playing "regular" Heartshtone anymore. Although the progression looks kinda confusing... permanent progress, but PvP duels and Reward track? So is this a single player or PvP? EDIT: seems like solo and PvP will be seperate...

Btw some of the changes are pretty exciting, like revamped Classic cards (buffs for Feral Spirit, Earth Elemental etc), new Totem for Shaman Hero power etc (+1 dmg to a random minion, but replaces the spell dmg Totem which might actually be a nerf for the class). Shamans mechanics were the most criticized due to power creep and Overload making some cards subpar as news sets were released.

I wonder if Magic schools will be built upon in future expansions... but it looks so as it changes older cards also.

Altogether I'm pretty interested. Kalimdor is one of my fav places in Warcraft, so an expansion build around Taurens (and Horde in general) and the wildness really get's me enthusiastic. For the first time in the last few years I'm even considering the pre-order mega bundle.

PS: Shamans Lightning Storm now will always do 3 aoe dmg. Talk about removing one of the most annoying things in Heartshtone I can remember

PS 2: Next expansion will be Alliance related and then we're getting a Horde vs Alliance expac it seems (the teaser image reminds of Alterac pass).

Wow they nerfed High Abbess Alura, and I had her as golden. THANK YOU I need some luck, because I have been losing games and it has been royally pissing me off. I wonder why they keep that Lifesteal OTK that does 60 damage or something from hand... when Force of Nature + Savage Roar was nerfed beacuse it did 24 and it was too much. Oh, that belongs to the Demon Hunter, forget that I asked!

I am super salty. But I am actually so salty it is making me laugh at my self. I think I overdosed on sodium.

Back to Battlegrounds, until the expansion. ^^ Anyone excited for it?

not a fan of the meta either but I'll play my 5 weekly wins for the battle pass xp, mostly been using big warrior which crushes most of the aggro it seems.

Still enjoying arena so far, after rotation it removed a lot of the powerheavy sets and now feels less snowbally, of course curious for new expansion

I've been thinking about trying that deck which basically made them nerf Alura - the one that takes out all the Murlocs with Tip the Scales, and then uses Y'Shaarj + Corrupted Clown combos. But I would need to bank 4000 dust, so it would be a risky "experiment"...

Well, the fact you get full dust value back with Allura in the next two weeks might help with the decision, but I'm still on the fence about it.

There are some interesting findings: some cards have been entirely rebuilt, some had slight changes (sometimes it's like +1 health etc) and some were left alone. Imo one of the most interesting findings is this:



I mean, wasn't Flamestrike so poweful that it was used for like... forever? I don't understand why making it even stronger, even with all the powercreep in the game.

Also people have begged Blizzard to make Nozdormu somehow usable, but imo they made him even more useless. He's changed into 100% meme card now cus if I understand it correctly, they made him into a card you can only use effectively in matches with friends:

Does listening to Killer talk about it counts as analyzing? Because I did that.
About flamestrike, he claims that it has actually fallen out favor recently because there are other tools and also that removing blizzards weakens flamestrike because you can't do a 2 turn clear anymore.

Well you do see it less often but I think Mage is mostly using Secret and Highlander archetypes nowadays. Due to the selection of other options you do see less Flamestrikes in Highlander builds that's for sure, plus you have Zephrys who can always give you a AoE in a pinch. I don't know, for me F-strike has always been the most staple AoE you can have in any deck, but maybe times have changed, I don't play the game enough to tell. The only thing I wanted to say is that a strong card has become even stronger

Nevertheless the point of Core set is to give new players a more viable selection of cards to start playing the game, not to build actual viable meta archetypes from the get go if I understand this correctly?

Interesting that they also buffed Onyxia, I always had a sentiment for that card and wanted it to be played more.

I remember Flamestrike from the times when I played Hearthstone, that looked extremely balanced with no exploits whatsoever. The buff only adds to that.

In times of old I remember how dreadful it was to face Mage and know full well from turn 7 he can destroy your gameplan.

I also can't count have many of my good Arena Runs were compromised due to the "hey look, he has a 3rd and 4th Flamestrike, yay!"

Flamestrike is has not seen play in years for a reason. At turn 7 you should be doing more than just clearing minions, you are looking at your death at that point usually. But we'll see, it might be good enough to see some play. I like the animation if nothing else.

I was commenting on his effect which has become even more meme, becasue you actually could have some use with his old ability in some matches with the element of surprise (some people still can't handle 15s turns). Plus I doubt this is how people envisioned him being more useful.

The new one can't be played for his effect unless the other player has it also in the deck, alas stat-wise alone he can actually be played for its body. Remains to be seen if players want to play such a card for it's body and Dragon tag alone, but who knows...

So expansion is nearing and I haven't figured out what to try yet. but I am staying away from Mage and Warlock if possible, I have played these two classes so much (nearing 2000 wins with Mage and 1500 with Warlock) I think it is time for something new.

First I think Celestial Alignment Druid could be fun and good. It will allow me to play strong Dragons for example Spellpower Shaman would be faster and I like the redesign of this class as it is not so much RNG dependent. And since I have only 50 wins with this class total, I reaaaally disliked it before Now I could redeem the class perhaps in my eyes.

What do you plan to play or do you have any suggestions what could be fun?

Actually I don't know what to try, but there are some interesting interactions with older cards like these here: https://www.hearthpwn.com/news/8137-forged-in-the-barrens-wild-combos, so I might simply go for something to build around these ideas.

I think that Hero Power Mage might be strong, especially in Wild.

I've had more gold, but Blizzard brought Sylvanas to the shop, so there went my 1500 gold .

Bought 50 packs (for now, still have plenty of gold and dust).
Results: 11 Epics and 4 Legendaries - Rogue that gives poisons, Samuro, Druid that buffs when you play Nature spells and Priest that steals Attack and Health.

All in all, not bad. Now to see what I can make of it.

25 packs for now (used 1500 gold on Sylvanas beforehand ), 2 L's and 5 epics.

Smyte (Paladin Legendary who is probably strong in Wild with secrets) and Barak Kodobane (who is not overly powerful, but decent in Hunter).

I like hero power Mage (or "ping" Mage), I played a lot of similar decks back in the day. After seeing him in action and getting two Wildfires (one in pack and one from reward track) I decided to craft Mordresh. I was aware he has potential to be strong, but what makes him extra consistent is Taelan Fordring. Also Reckless Apprentice is super strong, it's a board clear with solid body. Those cards will be nerfed to the ground unless meta will find a way to deal with the deck.
