Mindful of the fact HotA replaced some sprites+animations of original cretaures in the past (Pikeman, Halberdier, Orc, Orc Chieftan) I think there are two more sets of sprites which could do with a makeover.
Both are neutrals of secondary importance however.
- Peasants: They look like Zombies (speed of 3 is as slowly), slaves, starving after months of megadrought or pestilence-ridden. Skin tone too pale for someone who are out in the open all day, forearms look like prostheses. Legs in comparison somewhat chunky. Strange gaudy colour for the top they are wearing.
While I'm at it, maybe speed should be improved, health doubled. Why would someone used to manual labour be so rickety?
- Rogues: They don't move sleek and sneaky at all. Posture looks like they are suffering from some severe spine condition. Moving sound is a clumsy trudge. What's the attack sound supposed to be? Instead of that bulky long sword they should be equipped with 2 daggers/short swords. Cloak is too long and bulky, hindering agility. I'd rather imagine rogues like the H2 ones, like Rogues in Baldurs Gate 1&2 or the guy in the Thief Series / The Dark Mod.
It's asking a bit much for an unimportant neutral creature but I've got an idea for a more exciting specialty. Backstab: +x(%) Damage/Attack or ignore x Defense or no retal or 2 Attacks when attacking a creature from one of the 3 backward facing hexes. Or maybe invisibility for 2 rounds or something.
- This one is more of a personal preference but I think the colour of Enchanters is unmatchedly garish and saturated. There is no kind of structure in the fabric. Moreover the skirt is a tad too long, leading to a hovering impression similar to Psychic Elementals.
Apart from the graphical imperfections it feels a bit odd to me is that Orcs who who have axes at their disposal suffer melee penalty. For the same reason the numer of shots should be halved. You'll have to rely on the Ammo Cart to haul that many axes.
