"Den, huh? Well... I'm not really sure what a Den is. A living dragon home maybe? I'd have to ask the higher ups about that one... which I can definitely do if you throw me into one of those big ol' fires and let me scamper off to ask around!"

"Oh, no no no. It's not really important enough for me to part ways with my new friend. I thought I lost you once already, I don't intend to go through this again. Especially not so soon. Speaking of our first meeting, you were just telling me your impressions of this dimension. For example, you were observant enough to notice the voidwalkers and their pet. What else did you see?"

Vorbrin followed Ciaran and Feather as he talked with the cockroach.

The little roach whimpered a bit more, and flailed its little legs at the air in a final attempt to escape. Finding it impossible, the roach's legs fell to the side and it sighed. "Well... if you want to know what I found, then honestly? Void walkers, their hound pets, a few Aeons and a whole lot of rock. Oh, and then all of you. I did just get here, you understand." The little demon said with a heavy sigh. "What else do you want to know?"

The rest of the cave seems to be silent, and though the path in front of you is winding, you can feel the air becoming warmer and more fresh. No more of the hellish fires dot the path, leaving you to the light of your torches and whatever abilities that you have to see in the dark naturally. Bodies of void walkers continue to dot this trail, along with parts of their hound-like pets. As you go along, their wounds seem to be less and less from magical energies and more from being literally cut to pieces, like they were throw into a blender and then onto the floor.

After about ten more minutes of walking you begin to see the tell tale signs of natural light, the reddish light of dusk leaks into the cavern in an almost mesmerizing manner, and you are treated to the sound of what seems to be a thousand suits of armor being dropped onto a glass floor. The cacophony is almost enough to mask the draconic death scream.

______________________________________________________________________

After about five minutes, Nathanial notices that the bodies the party passes still have their weapons. He also notices that there are two small, red vials hidden within the carnage that glow slightly in the torch light. Nathanial can tell that they are definitely magical, and that one is a healing potion of some kind. He is unable to tell what kind of healing potion is. The other potion glows with a slightly brighter red light, and Nathanial can guess that it is either related to light or fire somehow.

The scream itself seemed to end abruptly, as if something had gone out of its way to silence the creature making it. Beyond that, the motivation for the scream, and source of the rest of the noise, seems to be a mystery.

Nathanial picked up the potions (Lady Mystra forgive this trespass on the dead...) and stored them swiftly as the party went along. He paused as the scream was heard and cut off, ensuring he had a good grip on his sword before speaking, quietly:

"Companions, your counsel; would it be wise to extinguish our lights?"

"A fine thought, brother Nathaniel. There should be enough light here to see by already. Now then, sister Ciaran, would you be so kind to lay our new friend here and make your cautious way to the cave entrance? We will follow you as soon as you give us a sign that no ambush awaits us... this time."

Having nothing specific to do, Feather took a step back a bit, and started dancing some form of elvish dance she remembered seeing in her past. It was more personal, with her not taking any notice to whether or not the others are paying any attention to her or not. With all that had happened recently, a nice peaceful dance seemed to be just the thing she needed.

Having finished her dance, Feather decided to have herself be the scout. She rushed ahead of the others, and continued along the passageway the cave provided. She made an attempt at stealth, and kept watchful of her surroundings.

Stepping out into the light of sunset, Feather is able to get over the slight shock of the rapidly changing lighting and observe the scene before her. The first thing she would notice was that everything seemed to be more vibrant than usual. The light was brighter, the colors more pure and life more alive than she had ever seen it. It was almost as if something divine had chosen to make this place more sacred and pure than the rest of the world.

Which, of course, made the corpses and blades sticking from them stand out all the more.

Almost as if taunting her with the atrocity, crimson stains marred the rocks, dirt and grass of the mountain vale in splashes and pools, leaking from the bodies that had likely been walking only moments ago. More hounds and void walkers, butchered like those left behind in the cave, and even signs of destroyed Aeons deposited here and there. As for the source of the death scream just moments before and where all the weapons had been taken, well, a cursory glance at the bodies would reveal exactly what had happened there.

The entire vale was coated in weapons, the hilts of daggers, longswords and katana sticking from the hard earth, even impaled within the stone of the mountain as if they had been thrown down to the earth by the hand of a vengeful god. Stuck to the mountain as well lay a creature that looked nothing as much like a shard of the night sky, ripped out and given the shape of a dragon. Blades pierced its dazzling, brilliant hide, causing a shimmering, white liquid that you assume to be blood to dribble out in a beautiful cascade.

And in the center of it all stood the trapmaster, the snow sword he'd had slung across his back in your last encounter rammed through the chest of a heavily armored void walker. The last time you saw this being, he had been strange, weak, a sniveling creature that you put down with great prejudice... but now you had an entirely different being standing before you. Tall, graceful and arrogant, the trapmaster stood above the carnage and gore like a king among peasants, his red jacket and leather armor matted with the blood of his fallen foes, and his black hair shifting ever so slightly in the wind, its tips lightly dancing along his shoulders. That silken, oily voice of his barely registered in Feather's ears, whispering something in the void walker's ears before he removed his blade, flourishing and then sheathing the humming rune-marked blade. And then those eyes blacker than pitch turned to face Feather. "... Thank you." He stated simply, giving her a slight bow and then disappearing in a flash of blue light.

And everything in the war zone was still.

((Note, this is another zone of creation, all of you get some fast healing/ regeneration schenanigans here, so go ahead and consider yourselves fully healed. Also, let's pretend that I said I would update this yesterday, and ignore the fact that I forgot to actually post the update that I made last week... ))

Nathanial was back with the rest of the group and could see none of this, but he felt his injuries tingle and itch and noted his wounds were closing on their own. It briefly occurred to him their unconscious 'guest' might be affected similarly so, cautiously and quietly he made his way over to Ciaran to check on their captive.

((IIRC we identified her group as Void faction not Creation, but I'm checking anyway.))

Ciaran would see the same thing as Feather, though the trapmaster didn't seem to notice her. Which might be a comforting thought. ((Yay for a not-horrible stealth roll! ))

Your prisoner doesn't seem to be recovering from her injuries, and neither is the little roach for that matter. Neither of them seem to possess the blessing of creation, which gives you a decided advantage if anything were to happen... not that you needed it at this point.

"That was confusing and disgusting." Ciaran first commented. She turned and gestured everyone to come back and she relayed what happened: "Some guy was looking like the trapmaster, but like... Buff, I guess? He had a really cool sword and wanted to be all cool standing there and he left. He thanked us too, so I'm not saying the trapmaster is maybe alive and a demi-god now, but I'm saying it would make sense."

Vorbrin stands beside the paladin.

"Contrary to popular beliefs (which are dangerous themselves), an enemy of our enemy is not our friend, brother Nathaniel. He is, at best, our weapon. And judging from this scene before, not an effective weapon at that." He glances at the roach on his dagger and extends him forward, "Enjoying the view, my friend?"

"Perhaps, but it would be far simpler to gather information from them—and far swifter, were we to cooperate to mutual advantage." Nathanial had a theory bubbling away in the back of his mind, but with friend Feather currently host to an irremovable link to their enemy through which he could apparently see and hear them, he was sadly aware that sharing it might be unwise at this time.

Feather stood there, watching the area where the trapmaster had just been. She took a step forward, almost stumbling, but recovered enough to remain upright. She continued on, making her way to the location.

"How..? But how? How did? How?" Unable to complete full sentences then and there, she took hold of one of her new throwing knives and let it fly off in the distance as a means to vent her frustrations. She then turned to the others.

"Sorry, I...I don't know how the trapmaster still lives after... Well, maybe we should discuss this after we find a place to rest up? Unless there's something of worth here?"

The cockroach squirmed slightly, clearly more uncomfortable with the dagger in its abdomen than with the scene, but from its antenna movements the little fiendish creature is also apparently confused. "Well, it's very pretty and red and glowy... but this all seems wrong..." It mumbled a bit, tapping the tip of one of its legs against the dagger in a contemplative manner. "It's definitely Asper's work... but why would he wage war on the void? Last I heard he was a rebel who fought against oblivion beside the void." The little bug turned its head to the unconscious void walker and wiggled its antennae in a more inquisitive manner. "... Interesting indeed."

And finally, as if in answer to Feather's question, the side of the mountain buckled, cracked and then revealed the dragon Den, panting in exhaustion and slinking more than walking, but very much alive. Crawling down the side of the mountain, the dragon looked around in a bleary manner and, after spotting the party, began to crawl over. "Ah... good. You are alive. That is... good. What happened here?"

Nathanial bowed politely to the ex-dragon-god after a glance at the roach. "We appear to have made an unfavorable first impression on the locals. And I must report that unfortunately our initial transportation to this realm appears to have survived, and it is unlikely that he means well to ourselves or anyone else in this world." Nathanial was itching to ask Den the question boiling away inside his skull, but not when they might be being watched.

"Dragon Den. You're alive. Marvelous. As you can see, we managed to pull through as well. And our party even gained a new member." The exquisitor waved the impaled cockroach in front of Den.

But this is as interesting as I thought, thought Vorbrin, for someone claiming to need our help in combat, Den managed to beat unimaginable odds and get out on his own.
