((Sense motive: The roach seems to be too deep in thought to lie to you, though it seems to be calculating something.
Knowledge; history: You do not recognize the name Asper from any history books, though that may be because most records from the void wars were destroyed in a great fire just a few years before you became a paladin of Mystra.
Knowledge; the Planes: The notes that you have make a few references to an "Asper," who seems to be responsible for the creation of a few magical items, and who seemed to originate from the plane you currently stand on. However, what he did exactly in the war, who he was and, most importantly, which side he fought for are still a mystery.))

Den nodded along with Nathanial, before shaking his head and asking, "Wait... this wasn't the work of you and your friends? Odd, I thought... anyway, what is responsible then?" The dragon asked, seeming to be forcing himself to focus. Now that he is closer, you can tell that the dragon is more than a little injured, given how lightly shaded he was now.

With a deep sigh, the dragon added, "Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you would have anything to do with any of this... massa..." Den's voice trailed off as he looked at the little fiend, while it wiggled its antenna in a little more contemplative manner. "Where in the bloody hell did you get that thing?"

The cockroach seemed to just notice the dragon and its legs flung out straight, before flailing again. "Where did that thing come from?! And hey, my lair of hell is on fire, not covered in blood!"

You get the impression that Den rolls his eyes when he states, "Whatever. Cute pet, inquisitor."

((I'm assuming that Nathanial can give a reasonably accurate description given that he's met the Trapmaster before, just not after the power up.))

"We knew him as the 'Trapmaster,' but he seems to go by other names. His seeming possesses black hair and eyes, and a jacket of scarlet, and he wears armor of leather and bears a sword; is he known to you?" Nathanial suspected he was.

This time Den is almost an open book for Nathanial to read, and from the barest tremble in the dragon's voice to the slight tick in the way he moved his head, Nathanial would get a feeling of nervous regret and aprehension from the dragon. However, as the dragon spoke, he wouldn't detect any lies when Den said, "Well, you've described about half of the swordsmen in the various worlds with that... except that name. Trapmaster. That one detail narrows it down by quite a bit. And of them, only three could have caused this, and only one has eyes as black as oblivion's maw." Moving his head to gaze at the battlefield once more, the dragon whispered, "Oh Anterson, my poor child, what have you done to become this?"

Shaking his head slowly, the dragon turned back to Nathanial and stated, "Your inquisitor companion was reluctant to talk about the events that brought you here before. I would... I would appreciate it if you would tell me how you know of this Trapmaster, and any details about the magic of your world. If he was there... There had to be a reason."

The dragon hesitated at Vorbrin's proposal, but after a moment he nodded and whispered, "Yes. You have a deal."

The roach seemed to finally figure something out, and from its laughter this was not a good thing. "Oh, but you folk know just the most interesting of people!" The fiendish insect continued to cackle and drummed its legs against the metal of the dagger.

"I see... Well, if you will not talk anymore, then I'm afraid your novelty has worn off." Vorbrin turned to his companions, "excuse for for a minute or two while I dispose of my little pet."

Vorbrin set off into the battlefield. Once he was out of earshot of the group, he found a body with a sword stuck through it. He pulled out the sword and threw it aside. He then looked at the roach impaled on his dagger.

"You admired the scenery so much that I have graciously decided to let you have a closer look."

And with that he thrust the dagger into the sword wound of the dead body. He made sure to push it in to such depth and with such an angle that only the tip of the roach's head would be out of the body, allowing him to breathe. He then proceeded to tear off his antennae so that there will be nothing visible to discern the scene from a simple battle wound.

"I heard someone say once that cockroaches would outlive us all. I certainly hope you'll live long enough to stay out of our way, you demonic abomination."

Finally, the exquisitor returned to the group.

"I think, this would be a good time to break camp, treat our wounds and tell our stories."

Nathanial would not have called himself satisfied, but his guess was confirmed. "I fear we need also consider the possibility that our being brought here was intended, and that even now we may be playing further into his plots."

Nathanial was distracted briefly by the voice from the Exquisitor's dagger.

"Oh, but you folk know just the most interesting of people!"

The cockroach was too confident for Nathanial's peace of mind; it occurred to him it might have allies nearby (or even have merely spotted a voidwalker who yet lived and meant the party ill) so he took a moment to scan the surroundings.

Well, Nathanial is able to notice that there are rocks. And some trees a little ways off. And hey, the Exquisitor just came back! Today must have been an incredibly long day for the paladin. If there were demons or void walkers, then either they were moving, not evil or flying above the party because Nathanial detected no evil around him.

The cockroach, despite the whimpers of pain it made when Vorbrin walked away, was actually cheeky enough to begin whistling just loud enough that the inquisitor knew it was... pleased. Never a good sign when a demon acts like that. Or devil, as the case may be. However, it was definitely trapped within the corpse when Vorbrin left, so the mischief it could cause should be kept to a minimum. At the inquisitor's suggestion to set down camp, Den nodded but stood up as tall as he could, those black wings stretching out for just a moment. "Mmmm... yes, some rest would do us good. However, not here. There is too much of a risk here..." The dragon stated, looking into the forest. "A scouting party will come soon to investigate the disappearance of this garrison. I do not believe it would bode well for us to be here when they come, especially when we have one of their companions as a prisoner... By the by, what is the plan with her?"

"A scouting party will come soon to investigate the disappearance of this garrison. I do not believe it would bode well for us to be here when they come, especially when we have one of their companions as a prisoner... By the by, what is the plan with her?"

"If the Lady of Mysteries is kind, she will perhaps help us gain greater understanding of the situation in which we find ourselves. I am not hopeful of her assistance, but duty demands an attempt at least, and perhaps we can avoid further unnecessary bloodshed."

Den nodded along as the dwarf spoke, sighing slowly. "When she awakens, I should likely be gone. If she reacted like that to Asper, then... well, let's just say that I am glad to have your protection." Standing with just a bit of a pained stance, the dragon shook his head, carefully stretched out his wings and began to walk. "Regardless, let us go. You should feel better as we walk anyway, and finding a safe place to camp will only be more difficult as time goes on..."

Your trek begins just as the last light of day slips beyond the horizon, giving you a view of a vast, starry sky, almost dominated by what you swear must be a moon. The largest difference between what you called a moon on your plane and the satellite that orbits the world you now walk on is that the celestial body you look at now has its own oceans, and you can see the green of plant life sprawled over much of its land. If you look closely at some of the "stars" then you can tell that they have much the same layout, distant planets with their own life an ecosystems. Some of them are more grey and black, but the majority seem to be vibrant and lush.

After about an hour a large storm front begins to gather, covering the sky and threatening to release a downpour on the party. Fortunately you are able to find a small cave next to a river as the rain begins to drizzle down, warning you that this is likely your best bet for shelter tonight. Den at the very least slinks into it immediately, and calls out, "Clear! This is going to be the best place to rest and talk." The light of your torches illuminate the cave enough for you to make out Den, wrapped around the back of this cave and waiting for the rest of you to join him. "So then... tell me what you know of this Trapmaster."

"Unfortunately, there is not that much we know of him. Mystery has been his trademark on our Plane. We knew his origin was from the Void. Considering the atrocities the Void has committed, this alone made him our enemy and a target of most churches. We knew he was a cunning strategist and it took us quite a while to find him. Then there were the traps... masterfully done those creations were, but already figured that was one his skills from the nickname we gave him. When we finally defeated him, he muttered something about "One Last Game" and transported us, along with his remains, to this realm. He died immediately after that. Or so it seemed at least. And then we met your big friend and subsequently you, Dragon Den. You already know the rest."

The dragon nodded along as Vorbrin spoke, his expressionless face giving no hints to his thoughts as he heard and processed the information. After looking the dwarf over for a minute, Den sighed and shook his head slightly. "Truly, that's all you knew of him? You are lucky to be alive if that is the case, and that really doesn't tell me all too much about what he might have been there for... Before I answer your questions and tell you what I know, answer this for me. Where did you find him? Do you know of anything that he... acquired? Other than the portal you all came through, that is. You... did come through a portal, right? It wasn't just some plane shift that got lucky, or that was empowered enough by Asper to break through the dimension lock?"

"We tracked him for months, actually. He didn't seem to stay long in one place. We got a hold of him in some old ruins. We didn't have time to search his possessions because of our sudden transportation to this plane. And as far as we could tell, we did come through a portal that was activated on his seeming demise. Now that I think of it, he died in a peculiar way as well. For one, he did not leave a dead body. He sort of turned into a black mist and evaporated... Anything else?"

That last note about the body seems to take the dragon by surprise, and he blurts out, "Evapo- ... Right. No, that should be all from me." The dragon mumbled, shaking his head and mumbling the word evaporated under his breath, almost questioning the word. Settling into the ground while the rain picked up outside of the cave, the dragon sighed and looked over the party. "Now I suppose that I should hold up my end of the bargain, as one-sided as it is going to be."

Snorting, its nose releasing a small plume of flames that burnt on the muddy ground without fuel, the dragon began to talk. "Well then, where to begin? I suppose that the start would be as good a place as any. Once, long, long before your little reality had been born, before it was even a thought, there were three primal powers that resided within the void. One made everything, one wrote its end, one gave birth to the other two and kept them balanced, etcetra, etcetra, mortal life came into being and among them, three individuals gained the favor and blessings of the primal beings. You have met two of them by now, I suppose. The first, and apparently quite a lot nicer of them, was the dragon who's nose you apperated into. He is creation's champion, and is old and powerful even by draconic standards. If I recall correctly, Lucius is on his... fourth world now? Maybe fifth? Dragons of creation just keep spawning the things, it's so hard to keep track. But enough of him, I may be old, but that is no excuse for rambling.

"The second one that you know is our mutual... acquaintance. Asper, the chosen of Oblivion. He started as a judge, a being sent out to find and deal with those who had, one way or another, escaped the fated end set out for them by the primal power itself. He was ruthless and efficient when he was sent out on his goal, extracting and destroying his targets with as little collateral damage as possible. Many considered him a monster, and to many he was. Great and terrible, as his duty and nature commanded him to be... but some small part of him always rebelled against that. A somewhat paradoxical man at that, he always felt it was his duty to create something for everything he destroyed, and he flooded the world with so many different artifacts that he couldn't even keep track of them all. I wouldn't be surprised if you encountered a few yourselves without really knowing it. Mysterious artifacts that no one knows the origin of? Random trinkets that just showed up one way and were gone the next, useful only when you needed them and not a moment longer? Not all of them are of his make, but enough that you might as well just give him credit for the idea.

"He also explored many places in his travels and hunts, so much so that his house was only that in name not in fact. To help him and other explorers in their travels, he created some maps, one of which is now printed on the back of Feather's hand. Which might explain why the one you found has so... deviated. If he had time to twist it or shape it, then no one would know how to better than him." Looking Feather over carefully, the dragon added, "Watch yourself, young warrior. Watch yourself very closely. We have no idea how connected he is to that map, and if he has changed as much as I fear..." The dragon shook his head slowly. "Let's just say that I hope what we witnessed outside of the mountain was a misunderstanding. The Asper that I knew was a kinder man, one that did his duty so that a person more cruel would not take up the mantle and abuse the power it granted. He would never have engaged in such wholesale, senseless slaughter." The dragon's voice trailed off, and Den looked outside of the cavern, seemingly lost in thought.

"What has happened since I have been away?" He mumbled idly, as if forgetting the party was there for the moment.
