For whatever is worth, i do hope that the next heroes game ditches the whole human centric theme alltogether. I mean, i am bored of having humans be center piece of campaigns and/or stories.

If the next heroes game should be in Ashan because of reasons, i do hope that they omit Haven and add less used factions such as Sanctuary, Fortress, Sylvan, Academy and then something between Inferno and Dungeon/Stronghold/Necropolis. Haven can take one game off and we won't mind i think.

Although, maybe it would be better if the thematic racial factions should be discarded and instead provide a mixed approach to factions such as it was in heroes IV for example and in lesser degree in heroes III. I mean that factions have various races united together under an ideal or a specific way of life. This way Academy can have a shaman, and Stronghold a human berserker. Sylvan can have a Dwarf and centaur but at the same time, a dwarven based faction can also exist with other creatures of the deep.

It is my belief that heroes needs a makeover in its factions and lineup in order to shake things up and provide with a different storyteeling. The mechanics though should return to the roots as they possibly can be. The general storytelling of the campaign should be like reading a fairytale, in abstract time that provide with a good story but not tied in a universe that is fixed and unyielding. Characters should cross, but they should be more in the idea of a myth and legend that intertwine rather than a canon history lesson.

Ashan has developed the tendency to be weirdly uncaring when it comes to the wishes and ideas of strangers to Ashan.

Well true, but an easy way out is to always imply that Ashan is but a world in a universe of parallel worlds, one of which is enroth and another axeoth, thus, coinciding with the end of dark messiah, opening gateways into other worlds. This would appease old and new fans alike, by giving them the old along with the new.

Another easy way to implement older factions would be to allow the player to build from a pool of units. This would require of course that each spot in a faction has a specific role. I.e. Lvl1 unit of Sylvan has to be melee and be a pixie, level two can be a fast mover or a tank thus you have to choose between centaur/dryad/Dwarf, lvl3 has to be a flyer or an archer and you must choose between Griffin/pegasus/Elf. Thus giving the ability for some units to be multi faction available but this will also provide the ability for players to have more customization to their faction. The coding will be hard indeed and will require rules. But hey, it is not impossible.

Sure, impossible is nothing. For example, I try to imagine the current Heroes 7 as being a prematurely released expansion pack for the REAL and yet to come HEROES VII, titled "Great Battles of the Past", a series of campaigns with historical pre-Dark-Messiah line-ups, playable in the REAL HEROES VII as alternative factions to the fantastic post-DM-stuff the REAL HEROES VII will feature.

I can't seem to be able to cling to that imagination for longer as a couple of micro seconds, though.

Is that the very first trait that has power scaled by level? That's something people have been expecting. But I don't expect much, when I see other traits being less interesting.

Also, despite the flavor text, the classes mention having four main skills, though no sign of the racial skill. Odd.

Unsurprisingly they kept the class distinctions. Main skills will probably be a matter of frequency than availability.

Why do we need 6 hero classes per faction again? There are almost as many hero classes in a faction as there are creatures, and there's what, one or two heroes per class? What an unbelievably poor prioritization of design resources, not to mention how convoluted and annoying it makes the game.

Three hero classes per faction is plenty - might, magic, and governor. Or better, two classes per faction- might and magic. Or my favorite, go Heroes 1-2-5 style and only have one hero class per faction. There's absolutely no reason to have all these stupid slightly different classes unless they are going to implement a Heroes 4 system with synergistic evolving classes based on skill choice. As it is it's just the illusion of variety and it's annoying, confusing, and frustrating to keep track of what all the classes even are, before  even attempting to balance them. Ugh.
