I wasn't at H5 times. All I know is that the beta was so bugged that all fansites united and created the domain saveheroes.org (or something like that) and boycotted all H5 news until Ubisoft delayed the game (which Ubi did).
Elvin or some other old (very old  ) folk could give you a better answer

@Kimarous: I am also really excited for this game! There are some good decisions like going back to 7 resources, this new map control system, etcetera. In the case of flanking, I'll reserve my judgement until the game is actually out so I can see how it plays out. A non-random skill system can work, but it is a lot harder to balance. The line-ups are looking really good, it also helps that all votes, with the exception of the very first one, have gone my way.
So yes, I am really excited!

@Kimarous: I'm also really looking forward to the game. It's sad to see a lot of discontent about H7. I didn't even think H6 was THAT bad, and I've been playing every HoMM game since H2. The only thing that makes me sad about H7 is how so many apparent Heroes fans happily insult each other and the devs. There's a lot of unfortunate toxicity on the main forums, but there are also those of us who cant wait for the game to come out next year and are happy that the devs have become so involved.

Since we know two thirds of the champions already, which one is your favorite so far?
For me it's the Treant. I think the official art is absolutely stunning. Much, much better than the H5 treants.

So far? I'd rank them...
1) Seraph/Celestial
2) Hydra
3) Colossus/Titan
4) Treant
5) Magic/Arcane Bird
6) Landsknecht/Swordmaster
The only reason I'm not listing it by individual form is because we don't know the alts for the Hydra and Treant. If I did, Arcade Bird and Landsknecht would be above their counterparts of Magic Bird and Swordmaster (my bottom two thus far).
Looking forward to seeing the H7 dragons... especially the Green/Emerald one.

Treant and Hydra are battling for first place.
Then Swordmaster. Other Champions are way behind.

Well If I ranked them by functionality/usefulness:
1. Celestial
2. Titan
3. Arcane bird
4. Hydra
5. Treant
6. Landsknecht
Just judging the art and the looks of the unit I'd say:
1. Hydra
2. Treant
3. Arcane bird
4. Titan
5. Landsknecht
6. Celestial

Hydra lies comfortably at the top for me, the rest i'm somewhat uncertain about
i prefer titan over birdie (mostly cause it's not a physical bird) and sword-dude over celestial (not liking the armour and and effortless levitation with celestial)
i like most of them otherwise, especially green dragon without wings and the treant artwork made it look wicked-awesome

Wow, what's with the landsknecht hate you guys? I know swordmaster is a poor name, but their design is badass. For once we got a warlord looking like human knight, and not just the same one as usual. ( medium sized knight with a helmet covering the face )
For me:
1.Landsknecht/Swordmaster
2.Hydra
3.Treant
4.Titan
5.Green/Emerald dragon
6.Celestials
7.Shadow/Black Dragon

I was wondering why those other lists seemed small. Duh, they didn't include dragons.
Personally, it's:
1 Hydra
2 Treant
3 Green Dragon
4 Titan
5 Sword Master
6 Black Dragon
7 Seraphim
8 Arcane Eagle
Though honestly, spots 3-5 are really all tied.
The reason I don't like Arcane Eagle is because it is still a mystery. I don't know what it does, so all it has is looks. At least the Seraph and Black Dragon have some info about what they can do. The reason Green is above Black is because Black is something I've seen before, in H6. They might modulate it a bit, like the Praetorian -> Legionnaire, but Green is all new look. Swordmaster remoinds me more of those Crusader dues in H3 than the footman of H5 ever could, and they seem to be going way back with H1/2 "human at max" model, as I have been finding the "requirement" of Angels/Angel Replicates as top dog to be a little underwhelming. Titan is one of my long time favorites... but so is Treant and Hydra. Hydra is back on top, baby! And Treant gets a shot at Champion-hood, which I felt was needed since my unrealistic fascination with Dendroids in H3 and my renewed fervor in H5.

As I said in my earlier post, I like the landsknecht more than the swordmaster upgrade. Landsknecht looks like this cool semi-barbarian from the Dark Ages, where as the Swordmaster... ugh, WAY too much detail! Awesome fur cape, now a regular red cape with an awkward tuft of fur, and the stuff around his waist? Multiple layers with multiple colours, all covered in this gaudy, overly-intricate pattern. Oh, and throw in some tiny chains for the heck of it! *snaps fingers* Two last things: make his boots glossy and enlarge his already overblown pauldrons. *steps back* PERFECT!
Seriously, though, the Landsknecht looks fine but the Swordmaster is WAY too visually busy for my tastes.

I only dislike his centurion helmet. Not sure if I like this holy roman empire theme. I mean the armors are nice but the horsehair oh however you call it doesn't appeals to me.
Also they could have went with a huge axe instead of a blade, swords are overdone.
