But yea
Hey Ubi, how come your core studio can make good looking fly-by TS from assets, and your 3rd party artists can't figure out how a basic city composition works!

I'm gonna be frank; I'm not really feeling it.
Better than not-Minas-Tirith yes, but then there's the unnecessary fly-by camera, nuclear explosion and me looking at the town from a distance.

@Avirosb My name is not derived from the word Minas Tirith but the Tar-Minastir (the eleventh King of Númenor)

To be honest I liked the static image more than this rocking one. But it is definitely much better than the actual town screen. That said, we should keep in mind that the town screen should show a large number of distinguishable buildings, which Minastir's version unfortunately does not. Still I would much prefer this style of town screen over the present style. Maybe something for the expansion or a DLC...

Imo. the developers of the current townscreen takes the concept of distinguishable buildings way to literally. It's almost like they count the number of buildings in town, and then they divide the town into that number of squares of equal size, and then they fit some random building into this area. I think this is the wrong approach. First off, from the way I play at least, most buildings are entered through the interface rather than clicking on the actual building. This doesn't mean that dwellings shouldn't be readily distinguishable, because they certainly should - and that is NOT the case in the current H7 townscreens (I will wager that zero people predicted the Behemoth dwelling to be the one it actually is before they explained the townscreen). But minor buildings like marketplace, tavern, thieves guild, resource silo, etc. can easily be grouped into one economic center instead that then grows when more buildings are added - similarly to how the town hall upgrades into city hall, etc.
So rather than thinking that each and every building in the city needs it's own space, I'd rather think in zones. We need 7 dwellings, obviously, some of them with growth boosters that will fit into the same zone. Then we need a fortification of sorts, which most certainly does NOT mean a wall in front of everything that looks ugly and hides everything, but rather means some sort of fortification/keep that sits behind/on top of town. Then we need one or two economic zones: One which holds town hall/city hall/capitol and possibly tavern/thieves guild, and one which holds market place/resource silo. Finally we need a mage guild and a siege workshop. We're talking about 12 zones or so, it's not that much. They managed to do it back in H3, and screen resolutions were much lower back then, so given the space modern monitors give you to work with, it shouldn't really be *that* hard.

I feel the same way as Alci. A town screen should look as if it grew naturally, not like the ground was cut up in equal plots and then assigned to each building to stand on its own. They did that in H4, and it looked butt-ugly.

+1 I'm also utterly unimpressed and utterly disappointed. Well, it doesn't hurt daydreaming a bit a making those gifs showing how it could look like. I'm not sure if it feels better or worse knowing that they won't reach such level no matter how hard we express our views.

Haven TS gets outclassed by a fly-by of the in-game 3d town...
Edit: ...
It so true. I really want this game to shine but something is blocking this brightness. have a feeling that the guy responsible for the townscreens should be changed while creating other ones. On the other hand, hovever, the 3D render looks gorgeous, so that's something.

TS should give this feeling:
I won't label which faction, but mainly to describe the feeling I enjoy having when visiting my town.
