Wouldn't the elves be able to know, having keener senses, and wouldn't they be more wary of non-welves?

Usually you can tell, especially if it's a human living in the elven nation... who now lives surprisingly long and is unusually pale?

Besides, undead in other factions than Necropolis faction...? I don't see it, sorry.

Nah... please no. Even Sveltana governing Griffin Duchy was too much, now we're going to get Sylvan filled up with vampires? Bleh.

Even if they keep some ties with their past kingdoms, Undead should be Necropolis heroes.

maybe she figured out how to do it without turning to Heresh? she always struck me as an intelligent 'gal so she should be able to figure it out. personally, the idea of a campaign about Gem fighting Necromancers and developing a hatred yet at the same time realizing it could be her way to gaining eternal youth sounds interesting to me. she was always the "undeads are eeeeevil" type so sometihng interesting could certainly be done.

Hmn, was she really this important a character to have her own campaign? Personally, I imagined her as a generic hero, in both cases. Obviously, she was involved in some stories, but so was Haart.

That being said, being a human druid living with the elves, resenting necromancy but eventually becoming undead herself, afraid of her mortality... it does sound like an interesting idea. I mean, I feel like NWC was also aiming to go for that in Heroes V, so it could both provide some continuity and also carry more of their legacy.

frankly, i'd enjoy the next heroes to not focus on one, overarching story but rather several unconnected ones, like in h4 in which case these minor heroes could get a chance in the limelight. would work with Mutare, gem and that demon-idea. something that doesn't stretch all 5-6 campaigns, you know? individual little stories that don't have to have anything to do with each other.

Well, kinda:
Heroes IV bio said:
Even though Gem was at the center of over eighty years of wars and conflicts, she remained young and beautiful thanks to the waters of a special fountain. Still, having some merit and being a protagonist are things of quite a different degree.

EDIT: My word ticks are so annoying.

So, if i may share my opinion, i believe that the first expansion should include Inferno and Fortress together. The campaign will begin with Inferno, with a new hero that is preparing for a Lunar Eclipse (I don't care which). This hero is either disguised as someone else, or he is indeed a cultist and we will be seeing him gathering his allied that include persons from all other factions. What he is trying to accomplish is to relocate gates that will appear to safe places that will allow more demons and demon Lords to enter. This campaign  will be small (1-3 maps) and mainly introductory to the faction and its basic strategies.

The second campaign will be of Fortress, showing how the Dwarves are amassing and preparing for the eclipse, by fortifying walls and garrisons, clearing out people and evacuating them to safety and so on. This campaign is also small and introductory to the faction and its basic strategies.

To the main campaign now:
The First campaign is of Dungeon: Demon Gates appear close to Ygg-Chal and Dark elves are caught by surprise. The Faceless and Black Dragons are absent for some reason, so the Dark elves sent out a force mainly of Minotaurs and Troglodytes to keep the onslaught at bay as they prepare. This may also show that the Faceless have their own agenda and how the invasion was part of their plans although they knew of it. The campaign ends with Dark elves seeking the help of the Dwarves.

The second campaign begins with the Dwarves fighting off demons as they come out of volcanoes and other known areas of old. In time though they realize that the demons they are fighting are few and scattered and something is amiss. The first map ends with the dark elf messenger seeking the help of the dwarves. As the campaign progresses, we see a fragile alliance of dark elves and dwarves fighting together. In the campaigns to come you may have in your army both Dungeon and Fortress units but the campaign has a Dwarf hero that with the help of assassins finds the relocated Demon Gates.

The Third Campaign sees Inferno. The first maps are from the point of view of the Inferno hero welcoming the Demon Lord that has been chosen to lead this invasion. But this Demon Lord hero is clever and tactical. We see him as he collects scattered demons and fights off Dark elves and Dwarven scouting parties until he reaches the surface. There he goes for Irollan.

The Fourth Campaign is of Sylvan. It begins after the demons have been too deep into the forest. Many parties have been sent to thwart as many demons as possible. The Hero is chosen to be the mediator between them, helping them all and fighting demons that may have seeped within the defense lines. As the campaign progresses, the hero comes across dark elves as well as demons and the wrong idea starts to form that their cousins are actually helping the demons. The campaign ends with the Sacred tree burning and an army of Dark elves at its trunk (that will be seen fighting the Demon Lord at the Dungeon Campaign but the demon Lord will teleport all his demons just before the elves arrive - thus executing his master plan to have elves fighting among themselves).

The Final Campaign sees Inferno again, against Dwarves from the side of Inferno. The Dwarves allied with Humans and Wizards manage to defeat them, but the Demon hero manages to leave and hide.

Which elves? I am trying to give an expansion out of the box, that will give the room for other races to shine as protagonists. Dwarves Deserve it, Sylvan does as well, and minor roles should go to Dungeon and a medium role to Inferno.

Ah, and so the consensus regarding the expansions has been broken, but somehow I don't mind.

Well, my support still lies with my own idea, of course. Nice to see some more contribution though. Adding to the OP.

The idea of two-faction expansion (which is unlikely but will depend on the sales of the game and the shadow council help etc) will allow for a second that will include Sanctuary and also maybe revisit the old factions (here's hoping for the 4/4/2 or 5/4/2 or 4/4/3 system or any variation of it) or even (and why not?) include the 10th Faction (here's hoping for Bastion).

Also, Fortress and Inferno together make for a very good material for many stories to be explored. Dungeon vs Fortress wars for land. Inferno vs Fortress during eclipses. Inferno vs Sylvan vs Dungeon etc etc.

I feel bad for Sanctuary and Fortress though to be honest. They are the baby Factions of Might and Magic: Heroes franchise (yeah, not Heroes of Might and Magic) and they still didn't get enough love. We don't really know either of them well, how the faction works, about their back stories etc. So even though there wouldn't be much to explore of the canon Ashan story, a Sanctuary-Fortress expansion will be able to delve deeper into each faction and give us its unique story

Well, in my case each expansion comes with a full story, which also strongly adheres to the timeline, so should those be right, it would be best not to include two factions in one expansion, especially considering that it would kinda cause the focus to divide, rather than concentrate fully on one new faction... ^-^;

One another character it could be interesting to see reappear is Gem however, but with a twist of sorts. I couldn't help but feel that her Heroes IV biography suggested that she would eventually become a Necromancer, seeking to maintain her youth and life at any cost. It could be interesting to see her appear first as a Sylvan hero in Heroes VII and then in the game after - as a vampiric Necropolis hero.

lmao, I don't think there is any way in hell Gem would willingly become a Necromancer hero, you should really play some of the old games lol

That sounds pretty good.

Personally I would prefer a campaign that features mostly inter-connected stories with a few of them being unrelated to the central plot, for flavour.

For about eight decades, she used magical liquid to extend her youth and her life. Noticing one certain word - 'desperately' - is the key to that interpretation. Desperate people rarely hesitate in the matters they are desperate about, lel.

She despised and fought Necromancers before and that would also be true for her Ashan reincarnation. Would she however succumb to Necromancy herself if she had no other options, even in the old world? These biographies led me to believe she would, if NWC didn't go bankrupt.

Giovanni from Danse Macabre would also never "willingly become a Necromancer hero, lol", until you play Heroes V.

lol, no

I buried the children and freed the animals, which were still alive.  The real horror is that the dead children are the lucky ones.  They have gone on to the afterlife.  The tormented souls of the adults are tied to their undead bodies, unable to rest until the body is destroyed.

WHERE WAS THESE PEOPLE'S LORD TO DEFEND THEM?
These lands are supposed to be Erathian, and I have seen no sign of an organized force to oppose the Necromancers.  Don't they know the Necromancers won't stop harvesting until every single person is DEAD?

Quote:
I was with a small patrol traveling in the forest in the hour before dusk becomes true night. Bats swooped in the evening air chasing insects.  Suddenly they flew with more purpose, surrounded us, and transformed into Vampire Lords.

Sprites screamed, elves shouted.  Skeletal hands reached from the earth and pulled down my horse.  On my knees, I pulled lightning down from the sky to blast the Wights swarming my Dwarves.  The Unicorns charged, impaling Vampire Lords with their horns.  Just feet away, a Skeleton slew one of my Druids.

The sky exploded into light as my Phoenix swooped with fire running down their wings to char the remaining Vampires and Skeletons.  The Necromancer cast a final spell and turned to flee.

I rolled from my cot shaking with anguish and rage.  This time the Necromancer would pay for the death, for the dead.  Bursting from my tent, I raised my hand to pull down lighting to stop the Necromancer from escaping, only to stumble with confusion at finding a sleeping camp.

"My Lady?" asked a sentry, concerned.

"I had a dream", I said. "Just a...a dream.  A nightmare.  I'm fine.  Fine."

Quote:
This morning, screams brought us to a tiny hamlet.  A small roaming band of skeletons and zombies were attacking the villagers, but they were no match for my troops.  I rode down the last skeleton myself.  I knocked the skeleton down and trampled it again and again with my horse's hooves until all was left was a flattened pile of bone shards.  I swear I heard a sigh of relief as the skeleton's imprisoned soul was released to the afterlife.  However, my troops looked at me strangely afterwards.

Quote:
Today we rode through another small hamlet that had been "harvested" by a Necromancer about a month ago.  I buried what was left of the children's bodies.  There weren't any adults; they had all been raised as skeletons, I'm sure.

I feel so old and tired and angry and unsettled when I see this type of thing.  I don't see how Erathia is going to retain the Contested Lands if they can't protect their people from this horror.

Quote:
I was thinking about... things today.  Sometimes I just refuse to think about certain things, but it hurts too much, and, besides, I feel more settled now.  I don't think it's wrong to hate the Hateful or not forgive the Unforgivable.  What I think is wrong is to let that hating and unforgiving turn a person into the thing they hate or won't forgive.  I won't make that mistake again.  I won't be like them.

Quote:
When I went to tell Lord Fayette about Sandro tricking me, I learned he left on a mission into Deyja while I was searching for the boots and had not yet returned.  So I scryed for Lord Fayette and discovered his mission had gone horribly wrong.  He had been killed by the Necromancers and... and... resurrected as a Death Knight!  Curse all Necromancers!  There is one last service I can do for my lord.  I will grant his soul final peace by destroying the undead body chaining it to this world.  I owe him that much.

Quote:
The doll got to me.  It looked just like the one my sister had right before she died.  I remember thinking she was the luckiest girl in the world to have a doll like that.  Then the horde of skeletons killed everyone in my village.  I was the only survivor.  I'm GLAD the Council of Elders choose me as one of the pair to punish Deyja.

just a couple choice quotes from the campaigns illustrating why that idea is way off base, she literally says she would never do it lol

Yes, because it would the only instance of a character betraying their past beliefs...

Well, okay. You disagree with the idea. I got it the first time. It's just a theory though. A game theory, thanks for watching.
