I'm surprised to find many fellow Christians here, since the homm universe has pretty much ocult stuff and such .

For myself: i've been a Christian for quite a while now. Mainly thanks to making a lot of friends within my church. We often meet for a bible study but also to play board games and such .

Fun question: is Inferno also the least played faction for you guys?

Welcome, brother in Christ.

For me it is the least, actually, when I think about it. Never liked those nasty "reds"

However, when we singularly look at the Middle-Eastern hub and compare its religions, we are not talking about such general concepts and a collective tendency to interpret them similarly but rather a set of very specified stories identical in detail (such as 12 companions), so it's quite inevitable to conclude there was influential transaction of those stories among cultures. Even if you stretch out logic and claim the myths in the OT came from a single source which was intended to be a single monotheistic lore in the beginning (which would be a chronological problem because they predate monotheism), according to Christian doctrine, the birth time of Jesus is pretty well-known and when you have other myths that predates the stories in the NT by thousands of years, you have a problem.

What matters is that such myths were present in the region, and since Hebrews come from that region it makes sense that they would interpret the event through their beliefs.

Then at that point the discussion turns to speculations whether the Hebrews were always monotheistic or were polytheistic. Divine revelation is not to be discounted by looking at the question in a religious sense, so Hebrews may have turned monotheistic.
But maybe, and there is no proof of this, the opposite happened with the Mesopotamians, but we don't have a good deal of sources to clarify or deny this as of now (Or so I know).

And about that article, Mithras was born from a rock and killed a bull and a lion, I can't see the resemblance with Christ there. Horus was born from Isis and the "dead" Osiris, and was born to avenge his father by killing Seth. The others I don't know, but I've seen the commenters were calling out the author for inventing facts.

@markmasters
Ironically I like Inferno, since I was a child I used to play them a lot.

In H5 I only play Haven, Academy and Inferno.
In H6 I only played Haven and Inferno.

I always had this penchant of playing as the evil guy but then I would be horrified of doing the same things in real life.

I mean, in battle for middle earth I only played as Mordor and Isengard. But in the movies I always root for the fellowship.

No, the switch from polytheism to monotheism is not an area of blind speculation and there is mountains of work over it including linguistic studies of the shifting phase. Not to mention (again), hundreds of contemporary examples; non-monotheistic societies still in existence which live under similar or even more primitive conditions. Why does your God still ignore them? It doesn't become an area of blind speculation just because you can't travel in time and put a microphone in front of the ancients. That's not how things work.

And the link is just a sample, it's a good list to lead you to further research (if you wish). It's quite accurate in general, I know cause I did my homework back in the day. Don't be deliberately ignorant and cherry-pick the differences instead of the very obvious and specific similarities. Of course, the stories will modify over time and eventually transform into something else, that's what I told you in the first place when you were talking about replicas.

I like Rohan and Isengard should not have betryed... and I like the Elves and Dwarves and Ents and Hobbits alike. opposites attract in my case.

And Gondor was too weakened on its own to defeat Mordor's combined armies.

Second least after Fortress. For me these are all fictional, don't like pentagrams tough, arc devils has it in chest. Don't know why Harry Potter is this big scary thing, maybe because it's targets are kids, we don't have any that related in home..

Conscience is the real boundary here i suppose..

I get that the link is an invitation, but it's inaccurate, I've heard before of the connections with Mithras, Horus and Osiris. As I said, I don't know about Krishna and Buddha, as they were outside my knowledge, but those three I know about, and I gave you some en-passant pills of why I think that article is inaccurate.

I was talking specifically about Hebrews, not other people. As I said, them turning monotheistic isn't inconsistent due to divine revelation.

And the area of speculation I was referring to is that before written history, and as such, what I said of monotheism turning in polytheism, as I admitted, can't be proven, it's an hypothesis, a complete made up thought, just to share an idea of why these myths are the same.

You don't have to adhere to anything you don't like in these fantasy games.

For HP I am Ravenclaw, and I respect H3 Fortress (Drakon...) and I played a lot of Stronghold, Rampart, Castle, but Dungeon too, and also Necropolis and Conflux in my early years.

Everybody who needs/uses internet for claiming some personal specificity or ideas tends to be a snow, because this is how you act when you have an agenda to fill. it goes same for religion, politics, sexual orientations, racial argues and so on.

My grand mother used to be very religious, she used to pray every morning and evening. I was a moron and was daily mocking on her faith, then she only had a quiet and peaceful smile and never answered back. But I know that every time I mocked, she added something to her prayers, about God forgiving me, as I was young and fool.

Best post in this thread, and possibly whole forum. Yes, people on the internet tend to be like that. And yes, people that are truly religious are much like that good woman that was your Grandmother.

Seconded. I had grandmother like that aswell. Think she was old fashioned in my childhood but later I got to respect her. Few years ago when I had problems whit marriage, I was visiting her and said to her: "Grandmother, now would be great time to remember our family in you'r prayers." She said to me: "Every night I pray for you'r family and all my grandchildrens and childrens families." That literally broke my heart. I tough, I was something but that imagery faded, she has my deep respect what a fine lady she is

Years ago, a group of us played 'Risk' a lot with a great table of treats nearby...great fun. Though not a war-game, Balderdash was another game we enjoyed a lot.

Not really an issue in HoMM, after all, every faction is trying to take over the world <L> but there are plenty of games around today I would not touch with a 10 foot pole.

1 If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don't have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am nothing.
3 If I dole out all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don't have love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud,
5 doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil;
6 doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;
10 but when that which is complete has come, then that which is partial will be done away with.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away childish things.
12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.
13 But now faith, hope, and love remain-these three. The greatest of these is love.

Exactly. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God so loved the world...

Christ Jesus - Both the Servant and the King, both the Shepherd and the Judge, the Prince of Peace but also the Word of God, hence, He is the One, and the Sith and Jedi only follow part of the Way, the Truth and the Life.

The Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. And according to Revelation, there will be new heavens and new Earth, and we shall all be changed.

That is one of the greatest mysteries, what lies beyond? Our lifespan is but a fickle grain in an hourglass compared to eternity.

"Sic transit gloria mundi" in the end all the glory in the world will vanish, mundane life is ephemeral and destined to end.

I always get goosebumps when thinking about it.

The East and West should be One Church again, because a house divided against itself will not stand.  And while the differences are debatable, let's stick to the core, and reconcile.

Well Luther took issue with that one could buy his way out of hell. The church had gotten too powerful for its own good in my opinion (like anything and anyone can), and while I think it's a matter of convenience that made Henry the 8th change from Catholicism to Protestantism, I do not disagree with Luther's objections.

These days, the christian church have no near the power of back then, so I don't think this issue would arise as easily. But the church in the west is rather.. weak, I mean at least comparing the people I've written with, eastern European people seem much more religious than western European people, except for Faeroe Islanders.

Also like many others, I really like the new pope.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Here are a couple of tunes that most here should enjoy.

First, a couple of dudes from my past; Greg Lake, of Emerson Lake and Palmer and Ian Anderson, of Jethro Tull  playing Lakes' 1975 song in a Cathredral.

Quote:
Greg Lake performs his 1975 classic "I Believe in Father Christmas" filmed live at St. Bride's Church, Fleet Street, in the City of London with Jethro Tull' s Ian Anderson on flute, David Arch on keyboards, Florian Opahle on acoustic guitar and the church choir

And something very different; and pretty cool. It is not professional and really begs a sound-man to manage everything but it's still good stuff.
