Eh, we all knew that before the design update, anyway. Didn't think Ubi'd do that to themselves, though.

Nothing good can come out of Vivendi taking over and all the people who are gleefully anticipating that are fooling themselves if they think it will mean something remotely good for the franchise.

It's one thing to hate Ubisoft for their mismanagement of Heroes, it's quite another thing to wish for all their studios and franchises to go to hell in a handbasket.

Mark my words if Vivendi have their way things will be much worse all around.

I'm just curious. Considering Might and Magic franchise, how can it be any worse?

Maybe. But it is more fitting to see such a punishment, for all the years they have been fooling customers around.

At best, they may at least put the franchise to sleep, rather than give it a bad name with all the recent titles they released.

to be honest mate the fact that Ubisoft cannot convince us to give a **** whether they get a takeover despite their most frantic efforts to, and that many of us even revel in it as a bit of poetic vengeance, should already say it all, that will tell you how much worse things can possibly get all round lol

I have seen what Ubisoft will do with Heroes and it is one of the ugliest mishandlings of a game I have ever seen, while I have not seen what Vivendi will do with Heroes, so for my share I say, to hell with it, they will have a hard time topping Ubisoft so let us go down the rabbit hole and see what happens lol

Rest assured, no one's fooling themselves that Vivendi is some kind of savior, more like the bigger, badder devil and Ubisoft's bane and that's the whole point behind any anticipation. The M&M franchise is certainly not the only one but one of the many they royally screwed up for the fans, not even the major titles like Assassin's Creed or Watchdogs escaped their snowty policies, cookie cutter content, stupid DRM, encyclopedic amounts of bugs and broken features, not to mention early access goodies and DLCs meant only to milk the cash cow's udders until they're shriveled dry and not to actually enrich the end experience. It's drove the customer to the point that it's so bad that it wouldn't make any difference if it got tenfold worse under Vivendi, no one with a bit of respect for their wallet would second guess themselves to be suckered into a purchase again. But at the very least they can hope that the company that crashed and burned their favorite games crashes and burns to ashes itself and that's all there is to it.

The worst offenses for me were DRM for single player(even AC2!), crappy platform integration(almost didn't play H7 because I had no idea how to fix their mess and then uplay would not allow me to download their patches and then the game would not play etc), releasing games in an unfinished or unplayable state and their messed up customer support that is more likely to drive you insane than help you. But there is a lot to pick from..

Fair enough.

At least you guys don't expect Vivendi to be any better.

I won't try and defend Ubisoft because pushing micro-transactions in single player games is shameful but looking at the big picture I can't help thinking that Vivendi will make Ubisoft look like the good guys (or at least the semi decent ones).

As bad as they can be, Ubisoft have also been known to take chances on projects that big companies wouldn't even consider (things like Child of Light, Valiant Hearts, Grow Home). I'm not saying it's any consolation for us Heroes fans but that's not the sort of things that we can expect from Vivendi (case in point Vivendi took over the French channel Canal + and turned it into a vacuum by pulling off the air any controversial programs and original thought).

I'm no optimist though as I don't expect Ubisoft to be able to hold out in the long run if Vivendi keep at it so your wish may be granted sooner rather than later.

It's been quite some time now and I still can't make sense of what they've tried to do with H7. It didn't make sense when I was playing the beta and it doesn't make sense now. I would have been more than happy with a revamped H5 but it seems they can't let go of some of the stuff that H6 did put on the table.

I may be in the minority but I do think that with a little modding H5 can be even better than H3 and I wished they just built on that.

Speaking of DRM there is a sale at GOG with Heroes Chronicles for a few bucks (only drawback is that the resolution mod doesn't work for Chronicles).

EDIT: Just to reply to these links.

Don't care much for Jim Sterling and I won't argue that downgrades are bad, it's just funny how people are eager to crucify Ubisoft for those and tend to forget that it happened to a game like the Witcher 3 as well (and that game gets a pass all the time even with crazy bugs that took more than a year to get fixed).

By the way, Assassin's Creed Unity, clearly the most ambitious title in the entire series, was mocked and ridiculed because of its sloppy release but with hindsight it did push the enveloppe (whereas in comparison Syndicate is much less ambitious and some sort of revamped Assassin's Creed Brotherhood -don't get me wrong this isn't a bad thing). Ubisoft gave away the AC Unity Season Pass for free to make things right but they had to put in micro-transactions and lock content behind some stupid phone app on release (and there is no word harsh enough for that sort of crap).

I think a lot of hope lies in how successful Creature Quest will be, if JVC along the old NWC crew (actual CQ devs) could afford to buy the IP back our dreams of a new, true and fantastic Might and Magic or HOMM PC game to see the light again could just come true. Hope dies last.

You can open any of the Heroes Chronicles as campaigns or maps in H3 and use the HD mod. It works great
