So I tried your test with Learning, but I'm afraid it became a bit off:
At Basic Learning a Learning Stone gave 3000 xp (x3 normal amount)
At Advanced Learning a Learning Stone gave 5000 xp (x5 normal amount)
At Expert Learning a Learning Stone gave 25000 xp! (x25 normal amount!)

I suppose that would translate to 75/125/625 hp, which is not exactly right, thanks for trying though.

Edit: I managed to get First Aid to 75/100/125 using the string:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 40 00 00 40 40 00 00 80 40
Better than 50/75/100, still I would like 100/150/200...

This is a 200% bonus (100% base + 200% bonus = 300% effect).

Quote:

Likewise, but then a 400% bonus. At least we verified that one!

Quote:

Lol! That's a 2400% bonus then! . Ehh, I suggest to try intermediate values. I am guessing there's a strong increase from 00 00 80 40 to 00 00 C0 40.

Woohoo I did it Maurice, the string for First Aid at 100/150/200 is:
00 00 00 00 00 00 40 40 00 00 A0 40 00 00 E0 40.
That makes me 100% satisfied ...at least for now.

Doh, I see my error in a previous post, which could very well explain the 24x factor . I wrote 00 00 C0 41, where I should have written 00 00 C0 40 . Curious though that you found 00 00 A0 40 and 00 00 E0 40 as matching values for what you needed though. Will have to do the numbers (but not now, currently at work).

Yeah I found that mistake too, but it's hard to keep track of it all those numbers and letters so don't worry.
I'm just glad I figured it out at last.

Why are you spend time trying?
It's a generic IEEE-754 floats in little endian.

Use convertor, for example, from here:
http://www.h-schmidt.net/FloatConverter/IEEE754.html

E.g., for basic learning: 0063EA5C: CD CC 4C 3D => 3d4ccccd ("hexadecimal representation") => 0.05 et vice versa.

Ahh, now I get it. I saw this reference in the OP too, but to be honest, it didn't mean anything to me, I was unfamiliar with that standard floating number representation until now. Thanks for illuminating us!

I've found a Wiki about the standard, will see if I can understand how they build their numbers.

Edit: At least it's clear to me where the doubling of the percentage value comes from when increasing the hexadecimal value by 80 (128 in decimals) . It's an intrigueing way to represent floating point numbers, one that I didn't know until now. I also didn't even think of the possibility that they actually used floating point numbers to represent these percentages .

Also, based on the convertor (thanks for that link by the way), I found that the value 00 00 A0 40 is 500%, while 00 00 E0 40 is 700%. When used for Learning, a Hero with such a percentage would see +6000 experience or +8000 experience, respectively.

This is What I did so far:

Learning
50% 75% 100% XP

Mysticism
10 15 20 Mana

Estates
500 1000 2000 Gold

Scouting
6 8 10  squares to see

What do you think?

Whatever floats your boat . I think those values are a bit extreme, though, you'd need to play several games with those skills like this to see if they're unbalanced or not. I guess it's also personal preference - keep in mind the AI players will also benefit from it.

Yeah I also find those values a bit extreme, remember some heroes also specialise in those skills, so they get even more than that.
Of course you are allowed to do whatever you wan't.
But here is what I have done:
Learning 10/20/30
Eagle Eye 60/60/60 (Really wan't it to learn level 5 spells, but afraid this ain't possible)
Mysticism 4/6/8
First Aid 100/150/200 (Really wan't the tent to more durable, but don't know how to change that)
Estates 250/375/500
Sorcery 10/15/20
Resistance 10/15/20

I would also like to make ballista stronger, don't know how either...

And then I would like to do something in the spell department, but that is a whole other story...

Yeah they are extreme that is true, I did this because I think I have to make these skills worth to take. I would like to make the decision hard between intelligence vs mysticism for example or learning vs offense.

But yes I have to test it. I will be back with the results.

Another one: first aid is still remain a bad skill despite of the boost because it only can heal one creature from a stack. etc...

Or estate: only gives you real benefit in the early game so it have to reward you well after 1-2 month its going to be useless

So somehow we have to balance the skill benefits as much as possible

I will reduce learning, and mysticism.

Spells yeah another story, but I boosted Inferno spell a bit because it was too weak for a lvl 4 fire destruction spell in my opinion. Now it is 20 + (power x 30), also want to boost death ripple.

Which spells would you modify?

Yes First Aid and Eagle Eye remains pretty bad, because I can't change the other things, but at least they are better than before.

I haven't thought it through with spells yet, but boosting some of the damaging spells and maybe move some spells up or down or even changing magic schools for a few.
But I don't know how to change this, but apparently you do?

Edit: I might also alter mana cost of some spells.

They are in Hota_lng.lod file as SPTRAITS.txt or something like that in this case it is enough to modify the text file with MMEditor and then save it. At least the Inferno spell is worked for me. Today I will also try frost ring and fireball spells. Because they are pretty bad imo for a 3rd lvl damage spell. Hope I helped.

So you only need to change the txt file to change the spells?
Agreed Fireball, Frost Ring, Land Mine and Inferno are bad for their level. I might also consider Death Ripple and Destroy Undead.
Then there are spells like Hypnotize, Slayer and Magic Mirror which are also bad for their level and Slow, Haste, Bless and Curse which are extremely good.

Yes you only need to change the txt file.

Agreed land mine, death ripple and destroy undead also weak, and hypnotize definitely!!!!  Slow, Haste, Bless and Curse I would just leave them alone. Magic mirror also a great idea. I will get back later how I would modify them.

tax have you also modified AI value? - meaning ai's "will" to cast a certain spell. We all know ai loves to cast damaging spells, Blind and Summon Elementals, but maybe tweaked spells would also need a new ai value?... Like why don't the ai cast more mass spells like Haste, Slow, Bless, Curse, Shield, Stone Skin, Weakness, Air Shield, Sorrow, Fortune etc.

You can modify AI value in the same file.
I have already modified a lot of spells, including AI value for some of them, it seems like there are some spells AI will NEVER cast though...
But all in all it's pretty awesome.

I think phoenix!!! that we can change ballista in CRTraits.txt located in hota_lng.lod I didn't tested it yet though. I hope it will work and I cheered you up

Edit: Imo artillery skill is good just the Ballista itself is weak.

I think you are absolutely right about that tax and the First Aid Tent too and don't worry I am and extremely happy right now, because I just learned how to make the greatest game in history even better...

Edit: Btw if you wan't to edit artifact tiers or costs, they can be edited in "artraits".
