Heroes III: what are the viable MAGIC heroes?

Hello guys.

So as you all know, Might is, in HoM&M 3, rightfuly so, ridiculously overpowered.

I was wondering, lacking knowledge in this episode compared to most people, what would you consider the viable Magic class Heroes (early, mid, and late game).

Not speaking about Hybrid role, but rather a full power/knowledge hero. Like your average Nuker (bolt/ implo /arma /fireblast/ resurrection) monster

Solmyr?

Thanks

Not a direct answer to the OP, but you can play 'War of Mages' with the HW rulez addon for SoD. I think the option limits the use of Might heroes. Like, the Red Orb being banned and such.

In this case maybe Alamar because he's a Warlock with 50% Power and 40% Knowledge increase, and he has specialty in resurrection.

I don't think magic heroes are that bad, at least not on maps where it's hard to chain and you can't get Town Portal. Like Hippox said no Orb of Inhibition or Recanters Cloak would also help magic heroes.
Some good magic heroes: Intelligence-specialists, Sorcery-specialists (especially Malekith) Solmyr, Cyra, Adela, Aislinn, Thant, Deemer, Jeddite and Alamar and Gundula, Terek or Dessa if you wan't "a mighty magic hero". There are actually many good magic heroes, just avoid those with Eagle Eye, First Aid and Learning (except Loynis)

Only total noobs can say that sorcery specialists are of any use;
at level 20 they give only 15% boost to basic spell damage. That's nothing when u compare that boost to average level 20 armies.

To conclude: Only viable Magic heroes are Luna, Ciele, Gundula (and actually most battle mages) and Neela. Rest is useless. Unless you play some custom maps that use artificial ways to hurt might and promote magic they are indeed worthless.

Looks like you are a total noob, since you did'nt know sorcery-specialists add +30% spell damage at level 20, then add orb of earth and fire and armageddon and implosion into the mix...

Only a total noob would'nt know that Neela is'nt a magic hero.

hehe. Sure a magic hero which had the time to level up to 60th level, who had the time to build 15 level 5 guilds, get implosion and all orbs, is scary. Given opponent had a heatstroke and could do anything else that dramatically press E key while vanishing.

But thats just a movie script, in reality a mage is eaten alive by a might hero, before he could even get a level 2 spell.

Magic is powerfull in HIII. Of course non in lvl 5 hero. But 15 or 20? Flying, teleporting, city portal, ressurection etc. Magic hero is week only on low lvl.

Here, in this custom map I'm playing heroes were optimized to certain roles (even more then generally in HotA).
I have three available heroes with Diplomacy: Bently, Gelu and Dracon. As you can see, Dracon pic is shown in thieves guild, yet I started with Bently in tavern and bought Gelu days earlier then Dracon.
So why do we see Dracon's pic, did I favour him? Nope, the thing is: he got the magic travelling skills much sooner then the others. If I didn't had Corkes (insert any good might hero) I would had difficulties openning the roads and taking the creature banks necessary to make Diplo work on the good stacks but after that what I needed was an hero with a lot of Power (and maybe Scouting) so he can cast Visions and find the strongest stacks that will join for free and do it in the right order, so the majority of the army remains in the most valuable stack (first birds/angels then azure) and be able to travel to other towns, fly over mountains, etc... It happens that sometimes he is ready (in this regard) even before Corkes, who has been doing most of the fighting and is ten levels above. Cause of this detail I played the map several times and no matter what Dracon always becomes the pic in tavern.
Don't underestimate the capacity of magic heroes to become faster on the map, if they find the right spells soon (boxes?) they may surprise you.

Is that a joke? Come on now, might heroes can find the same spells and on top of casting them they can 1 hit KO mage troops.

If we go by that logic we might aswell introduce a default loss rule whenever your opponent gets Crag Hack because there is nothing better than him.

No offense but you are the one not following any logic here - i merely answered the O.P question. Which was - "which magic hero is useful". I said which of them can be useful even though they obviously still they fall behind might heroes. That is stating a fact. Would it be logical for you to say that magic heroes are stronger? That would not only be illogical, but false also. Of course you can play your magic heroes but all i say is that they always will be weak. Even more so in higher levels when difference in attack/defence, anti-magic artifacts amd specialties become even more relevant.

If anybody thinks magic hero other than the ones i mentioned might be viable I would be glad to play any popular MP template and just prove him wrong with Crag Hack/Ivor/Tyris/Marius/Tazar etc on w2 or w3 when he will be lightning bolting (or heck, even Implosing, no difference) my lvl7 while i mass slow or blind him and then cut all in 2 turns.

With offense, take a hammer and slam that clown head back into the box so it does not ever again pop out.

And on topic, I will from now on use your PoV - Crag hack is best and nothing else can have impact on this and thus we shall stop play H3.
Disgusting is the only word I have for you.

Lol at Ebonheart raging, but I agree, raising Crag to be the only possible hero, sounds really boring and limiting to me.
But have fun with your primitive barbarian Revolution.

Primitive barbarian revolution? Why, you must be talking about the real world, cause there's this barbaric revolution you speak of. Called: Immigration.

Difference is probability. Magic hero can fast learn 5 lvl spells and elemental magic skills. Might hero first learn might skills and you can learn 5 lvl spells at the end of game. But if you play after leveling save/load as long as you have wisdom III and other magic  skills for might hero its another question. Might hero has lower spell power and mana and eg. ressurection can be to weak. In long battle you can fast lost mana.
