Our chinese people are all back to normal life and working after more than two months real and strict self quarantine. But most of us still wear masks and minimize gathering.
You may not understand what does the real and strict quarantine mean for such huge population, and how many medical staff around the country fly to the infected city Wuhan to help them. how much the governors and volunteer have done to maintain material supply and keep in order.

Corona is a global disaster, people need fight together.
My work is greatly affected by the epidemic, we couldn't be back to work in last months, and we loose almost all international business now.

I hope the epidemic will over soon, and everyone can get back to normal life and work.

Now, as a proud denizen of Sicily, I think an update is in order, yesterday I had a big scare, I'm not turning on central heating in my house to save on gas and avoid having to call someone to give me a new gas tank, and yesterday, boy was it cold, my power went out so I had to turn the global switch back on and proceeded to get a bad cold snap.

Before going to bed, shivering like my body was possessed by a demon, I decided to check if I actually got a fever, and... 37.1, welp, I panicked, since a fever of above 37 will get police to lock you down if news of it goes out, plus, well, the obvious corona scare.

Well, ten minutes later, 36.7, and this morning 36.5, so yeah, I'm still safe and in good health luckily, I should be more careful about heating the house tho.

Anyway, this is day 20 of isolation, I have gone out of the house three times total, two times for groceries (and I'm going to get them again in some days) and one time to take out the trash.
What makes this situation so weird is that I've always been kind of a shut-in, but if I think about it, I miss walking around the city.
Nation is on the verge of collapse due to the inadequate action of the government (plus the irresponsible behaviour during february), for example, despite the Sicilian government asking all ports to be closed to civilians, and trying to enforce a quarantine of everyone that came here, we got resistance from the central government, which allowed the virus to spread faster in Sicily than how we wanted to contain it.

Plus the EU is being highly uncooperative with us, not allowing us to increase the deficit and get some money for the emergency, thus delaying the government's response to the huge economic crisis that's coming up, only yesterday did they manage to mobilize 400 million euros for low income families that are risking to literally starve.

In the meantime people are starting to fall to anarchy, raiding supermarkets and snitching on people, it's like a bad sci-fi flick, too bad we're in it.

I'm of the belief that the virus isn't even that deadly, however, not being able to peek into alternate universes makes it so I can't confirm my theory, and our healthcare system is indeed crashing down, however, a positive is that the entire nation is demonstrating a huge enterprising spirit to adapt and start mass producing what we need to fight this pandemic.

So anyway, don't underestimate this because it may not be as deadly as it seems (our registration system is quite wonky, that's a possible reason why the mortality rate is so high here), it will put a huge strain on healthcare systems, so do your part, stay home as much as possible and avoid contact with people.

This is probably the only time being an hikikomori will save the planet, so don't snow it up.

Well, it's intense here mainly for three reasons:

1. Lack of healthcare capacity
2. Lack of wide range testing capacity
3. Media terrorism

There's been definitely a fault in the upper echelons in handling this, since for example, we are in a state of emergency since January 31st, but action came only from the second half of February, and even then, it was just the isolation of a few towns and nothing else. Let's then not get into historical faults, like constant budget cuts to healthcare, but things like that is the reason it got to this point.

There's a case to be made that the media is driving people to think that it's worse than it is, which is useful to make people actually follow the law, since otherwise I bet people would still be running around, however, we're returning to those psychosis levels we had at the beginning of the month and prior.

Then again, I got scared for a moment I got it, despite not having left the house for 21 days, so... Look who's talking. lol

Yeah it's normal to be scared. I try to stay positive, but even I have some darker thoughts from time to time and I'm especially alert of my parents physical and mental health because my mom doesn't take the whole situation too well at times, she's mostly scared of the future and what my idiotic government will think of.

Speaking of which my %$!# government is power-sick and they are still pressing hard for presidential elections. No matter the cost, they even pushed for ordinance changes in the cover of coronavirus countermeasure bill just to make it happen. The elections are supposed to be corespondent now, yeah right. There is jack-s*it when it comes to helping small business and economy (they mostly wasted money on social dishing-outs to buy votes and now they wriggle) which are dying fast... there are also signals that they didn't prepare enough with medical equipment (for medics) so they try to hide it.

Funny thing @Neraus - Italian healthcare is presented as one of the better ones overall, judging by your comment it only shows that there are always two sides of a coin...

I am now working from home.  My job is considered essential (thankfully) but my wife is laid off.  We're under a state executive order to stay home until April 13 but the feds are stating we should stay in until May 1.  I never thought I would say this, but I miss going to work and court.  Working from home is difficult when there isn't much to do (courts are closed; non-emergency cases have been stayed) other than attend Google hangouts or do webinars.

Well, despite what most of the people here say, it's true, we do have quite good healthcare and especially a lot of really good doctors.
The issue is it being underfunded, and nobody having prepared for a contingency plan in case of a huge pandemic... Well, there was a plan, but they stopped updating and funding it after 2006, I believe, funnily enough much earlier than our economical woes, at least, officially.

About your government, look at us, there's running suspicion that the way they're counting the dead was done to willingly inflate the numbers while still being technically correct, for example, they're treating cancer deaths as coronavirus deaths if they were infected. That's not to undervalue what's happening here, but the government is actually having a bit of fun toying with absolute power. I mean, look at Hungary actually, I used to be a bit of an apologist for Orban, but his state of emergency without expiry, that's too much, if you don't mind I want to have a say if the country should become a dictatorship. Maybe calling him a dictator is too much right now, but he has very well the capacity to turn into one now.

Similar here, they've confirmed today that they're going to extend until the 13th, and then consider extending to May if necessary.

The usual complaint, if a president does too little, he doesn't care about lives, if he does too much, he instantly becomes a dictator. The truth is that no one has any clue (except Korea because they have the experience) on what to do, neither the funds to try multiple variants.

If I wasn't able to become an unknown carrier of the virus for other people I would be going about my regular business, but such as it is my hands are tied. Less than 1% mortality for healthy young adults isn't worth being afraid or changing my plans.

Sweden hasn't shut down and I'm curious to see if it will backfire horribly or if they'll manage well enough.

Ofc, you can either shrug it off or belive in conspiracy theories. But imo you need to look at the political background. Sure, extending Orbans political influence might or not might be measured as a step into dictatorship. But when you take into account his previous exploits you'll see that it's a part of a bigger plan or rather taking the opportunity.

I am sure the ruling party in Poland is doing exactly that: taking the chance to raise their political influence even more, even at the cost of lives as they are still pushing for elections despite many objections from pretty much everyone... even if they manage to do them remotely (wonder how it would work) a lot of people still need to be engaged into preparations not to mention our president says that "if people are going shopping they can pretty much go voting". That's just irresponsible...

I don't think this would happen if the virus is still out of control, also you can see on satellite pictures that traffic starts again (that I have only read)

But other than that, this virus really is a global disaster. I hope it will not get so worse as one might think. Unemployment rate skyrocketing like crazy, one might think that will not affect you in any way, we might be very wrong.

A foreigner lives in China made a video to show how the city fight against Corona Virus. The video is filmed between 3/10~3/13, when most of people life and works resumed after a long time city lockdown. I think this will help more people around the world to fight against the epidemic.
Below is the link.

If you can't view it, try to search "Coronavirus #China #Nanjng" in google or YouTube.
If you think it is helpful to you, pls share with your family & community. Hope we can defeat the epidemic soon.

It is really bad that the epidemic is keeping spreading. I may face unemployment soon because my trade are all from USA.
We worried about the global epidemic when we were self-quarantined at home months ago, but we do believe the world would conquer the virus very soon because China had stop its economy to save time for other countries and shared experience with others. But unfortunately, virus in some countries is still out of control.
Protecting ourselves is also helping others.
Helping others is also helping ourselves.
A virus happens in city far from us may affect our life soon, because we are community with a shared future.

The virus is mostly contained. I think Omega meant that the data on the death rates is probably false. Reports are coming in from Wuhan residents that the numbers aren't adding up at all.

There were also some Muslim Uighur workers in Wuhan while the Chinese citizens remained contained. In a slave-state society, the number of deaths from people that are considered subhuman probably wouldn't be reported.

I don't think Chinese story. Think about the sick cause a death, when Chinese story hadn't happened but disappeared. Real the sick are at the end, the dead are still coming. Also started report was done bad. So disease has had time to bring to Europe. Then 7 between 14 days started spread around country. Ok in Russia has vehement rise. 4,1k/+601/34. The same as Chinese report said a new corona disease +31, when Russia closed border, and in there diseases were in about 30. Yesterday over +500, and now's +601. I don't think Chinese new possibility prevent disease.

Do you know that international countries get a more the sick than other countries. So Finland isn't international country, when now's 1615/+97/19. Even if Finland is a small country. See how it develops. Maybe China isn't international country but a large state.

North Korea and Turkmenistan said not coronavirus. When international country isn't. True the blackest country. Even if we can't trust. Why? Coronavirus has shown the power in 200 countries.

If we develop natural drug against coronavirus. Coronavirus will change into third version. It shall happen in China again. Virus is virus.

Other, now's 1m corona cases and 53k death cases, it means 5%. In Italy and Spain are in about 10% death cases. Too much. If not shutdown, etc

It is not good to provoke racism in such a corona virus thread, because others are talking what we can do to help protect us avoid being inflected.
You are not living in China, so what you know about China from some media may be wrong. China is no longer the former China of hundred years ago. You'd better try different channels to find China if you are interested. The video link in my previous reply may help you to know more about China.
Let's be back to corona topic, Apri 4 is Chinese traditional Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping Day), China will hold a national mourning Saturday for martyrs who died in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and compatriots died of the disease, according to the State Council.
During the commemoration, national flags will fly at half-mast across the country and in all Chinese embassies and consulates abroad, and public recreational activities will be suspended across the country.
