It sounds like I missed a lot of information by not watching the interview yet but honestly? If there are alternative upgrades, I'm happy. I don't need anything else LOL.

The more I hear about the game the more I feel optimistic. I don't wanna take a victory lap too early or anything, but it really does sound like the developers have been taking most of the mechanics from H5 and building on them. It seems like this game is being made with love by actual fans instead of the H6/7 directors who seemed to have a weird personal vendetta against the series and the community.

I have to admit, I got a positive feeling from that interview. While I'm still wary because it's Ubisoft, I can't help but feel a glimmer of hope that this entry might actually turn out to be good, at long last.

Damn it!
Not only does this mean they are spying on us/taking are data, it means they've caught the balance bug, which is pretty counter to the wonder and magic of Homm and video games in general.
Not every game needs to be uber-competitive.

vitirr said: The zoom part and movement to the left and right is the parallax effect, like FirePaladin explained too, it gives the impression that there's depth to the setting. But everything is drawn in 2D and placed on different layers, so the foreground moves faster while the background lags behind. It's a very ingenious technique and I am actually so happy they went for it, it fits Heroes townscreens concept like a glove.
I'm not going to argue but I still believe this is not parallax. As far as I know one thing you cannot do with parallax is to rotate one of the layers because they are static 2D images, and that's what we see in the town animation of the steam page for temple and inferno towns.
This also looks 3D to me specially considering the animated bits
https://youtu.be/N8idk9bRSlg?t=146
It would just make sense that if the rest of the game is cell shaded 3D towns would be built using the same technique. So I untill explained otherwise by the devs my bet is on 3D created town screens.
Phoenix4ever said: Heroes 3 launched with 8 factions, so I would have aimed for 8, then add 1 maybe a year later and another 1 the year after that.
In the mean time they could do some bugfixing and add some other things.
H3 is the only Heroes ever releasing with that many factions so it is quite unrealistic to expect that precisely now where DLC is such an important part of a game monetizatin and new factions being the main draw for us to buy them.

Judging by the interview that has been posted above, they'll be free. As they should.
What are you talking about? They never said new factions would be for free in the interview and that would make no sense at all.
Antikouras23 said: 6 factions are few indeed but i think they will add more, they said there will be free expansions during early access.. Stonghold and Academy/Tower are a must!
I think some people are too optimistic here.
This is what they said https://youtu.be/Vae95-E47zw?t=2241
Quote: First of all we'll have it in early access and then we have a full roadmap of how the game will progress from early access to release and we will add new features and expansions during that pepriod, for free of course.
The use of expansions here could be a badly choice of word for whatever reason but I don't think this means what some people think it is. Definitely no new factions beyond the 6 that have been announced on release.
Charrclaw said: I don't know if people hated 3D graphics, H5 was a great success, H6 would also be if they didn't screwed with it too much.
I think 2D/3D discussion nowadays is stupid. You can make a 3D game that looks very much 2D but with animations, effects etc that provide a much higher quality to the overall result. I din't like H5 visuals but not because they were 3D, just because for the most part they looked like crap.

I'm not sure if I'm liking that much focus on multiplayer. First because I fear they might sacrifice some bits of the single player experience and second because even if it becomes successful as mp in east Europe I don't think this will ever become a big e-sport and will remain minoritary. What will happen then after a few years of support? We'll we be able to play mp at all anymore without the Ubisoft server architecture?

If you have online play, you can assume that data is being collected, because that's how they work out rankings. As for balance, I'm not sure it's possible to balance towns anyway, not across all skill levels.

They simplified the skill system compared to HoMM5 to eliminate the need to learn sub-skills in order to learn the main ones, as was the case in HoMM5 where you needed a Skill Wheel to memorize all the interconnections
Shame, I enjoyed how it worked with H3.
However, I'm not too fond of this dumb focus on eSports. It's not a guarantee that the game will last longer, it is a gamble. And for sure you know there will be exclusive things to competitors in the game, that the rest of the plebs will not be privy to.
Stop turning great single-player/hotseat games into online multiplayer competitive titles.

Just judging graphics at this point.
Firstly, it's isometric "2.5D", so yay, cleared the first and biggest hurdle.
Adventure map and battlefields look ace, albeit a bit dark and desaturated.
But then looking at townscreens and creatures my excitement somewhat goes down the drain.
Townscreens look busy and cluttered, too many structures for the given screen real estate. Knight/Academy city looks especially meh/random.
Creature design is the biggest disappointment. That overly detailed/fuzzy/fine-grained/cluttered/busy/gaudy WoW style of HoMM5+ again.
Same goes for the icons in the spell book. Apart from a dominant colour all look the same because there's so much detail and a lack of clear shapes/outlines.
With their much more garish colours heroes/creatures stand out from adventure map/battlefields.

Mentioning esports and Heroes in the same phrase... They really want to push this? Not sure what to think of it.
But anyway, good info. Should probably be its own thread.

It seems likely that towns for Olden Era may have 8 creatures, right? Maybe a Factory-like situation with 2 "boss creatures"? The super-archer and the angel almost certainly can't be the same creature, which gives us 8.
Unless the super archer may be a summoned creature?
If you look at the revealed creatures, Sylvan also seems as though it may have 2 "boss creatures". Phoenixes seem to be one given how impressive they are in the trailer, but we also have seen Gold Dragons and Faerie Dragons...
Eugene_Xaar said: Arcane Ice????
I think the 6th creature here may be a Dungeon Dark Elf spellcaster, rather than an ice town creature. Could see it either way. The hair looks more like snakes than octopus/kraken tentacles, which is what makes me think that, and we can see that the ice town already has a high-tier spellcaster unit with the guy in the chair.
BTW, the dragon you have as Tier 7 for Necropolis is clearly Gold Dragon, not Bone Dragon. It has skin and flesh and gold scales.

I was looking at Necropolis and was pretty much arriving at the same conclusion. It's either that or we're missing vampires/dragons.
It could be there are more than 7 in a lineup now. Maybe they went for Heroes 7's system with alternative troops where when you build a dwelling the other becomes unavailable.
