This was true before the patches "repaired" it. All versions with latest patch show the correct damage for cerberi (2-7)

In my HOMM III complete (Mac version), Cerberi have max. damage 5 (appears in crtraits.txt extracted from .lod file)

I stand corrected then. Still, saying that damage output is tripled is a wild exaggeration.

That's wrong. A hell hound deals 2-7 points of damage while a cerberus only deals 2-5. That's a loss of 1 point or 22%. The attack stays at 10.

Ah, but that is why I wrote "and in some cases, triple damage". In addition, I also have the HOMM3 complete for macintosh, and they do deal 2-7 after the upgrade. I have updated the game of course.

Not only the Cerberi do attack three units, they also have the no retailation special. So in fact they do 6 times the damage !!!

The only bad thing about them is that I know this and usually shoot down the Cerberi before they are in melee range, so actually the don't do any damage at all Zero damage - this is making them the worst of all creatures, isn't it?

I thing the best upgrade must be valuated by the difference between nonupgraded and upgraded creature and the cost.

Obviously the archangels are the suprime creatures. But angels are not bad either and the cost of upgrade is huge. So - its not so vital in comparison with other upgrades. So, there it is:

Archers - marksman

Elves - Grand Elves

Gremlins - Master Gremlins

Giant - Titans

Harpy - Harpy Hags

Wolf Rider - Woolve Raider

Vampire - Vampire lords

Gorgon - Mighty Gorgon

Pixie - Sprites

I'd say Gorgons are the best upgrades. It turns a regular level 5 unit into a Tier-7 slayer.

I'd like to see Titan top that.

Actually, I'm going to revise mine to Vamp Lords. Both are deadly in large numbers, but the Lords just don't die. Gorgon-->MG comes in second.

Pit fiend -> Pit lord in some circumstances . Everything depends on map, available ressources, lenght of game, number of castles, rules made by players, etc,...With 3 pit lords you can convert fight after fight all low-level troops into demons (big stack for main final fight) but 3 archangels will only resurrect (and not attack) 300 hp once. If I had to choose I choose the lords and keep 3 angels

The thing with the lords is, they aren't that great at overall fighting. And I thought you could only raise demons once per stack?
