But it can be implemented.

Yes. And i will implement something similar. I think of special functions for Gremlins, Rogues and Peasants. For peasants i think they will repair war machines if they are directly adjacent each round. I'm thinking of 1 hitpoint per peasant. This may include "resurrection" of war machines.

I think Bersy rather meant key shortcut implementation, as resurrect of first aid tent would provoke very unbalanced game. AI always targets tent in first place, if it can't die, warfare becomes unbeatable.

Thanks very much for the replies to my question.

I've got just a couple of things to add though: first, it was only in the last week or so that I saw my tents go through heal action on themselves, before my hero had warfare as a skill.  They'd been knocked down from 8 to 6 (all 8 having been purchased), and intrigued I immediately checked and they'd gone back to 8.  Perhaps this was a rare glitch in the game - cos I've seen a few odd ones over the years - but it seems like they can resurrect themselves.

And regarding just using the mouse to select that action but it being a bit difficult: ah, yeah, try impossible so far.  That's all I've ever tried to do for about 3 years now, without success.  Are you saying I just haven't found the right spot yet?  If so, then I will happily frustrate myself further...

My reaction was that no creature can be made to cast on itself under manual mouse control (e.g., a Master Genie or Ogre Mage can't cast a spell on itself, an Arch Angel can't resurrect itself, etc.), because when the casting cursor is moved onto an active (high-lighted) creature, the Heroes program thinks you want to examine that creature's properties, and the cursor changes to a question mark. (As Bersy said, that could be overridden by an ERM/Era script.) But maybe I am wrong, I haven't played as much as Salamandre.

One of the standard WoG scripts gives Rangers and Druids the same number of Healing Tents as their Commanders level at the start of a battle, so if you lose some or all of them in a battle, in the next battle they are back again.

In my opinion, these types of questions belong in the WoG FAQ thread.  This thread is for those who want to learn ERM and have specific ERM questions.

There's no receiver dealing with the Kingdom Overview (that I saw). How have people determined what has been pressed?

It is somewhat clumsy, but you can use real-time (!?TL) monitoring of the mouse location and Hint Text to approximate mouse triggers - see "Dragon Peaks" (Kingdom Overview) and "Hidden Spells" (Spell Book).

I'm new to era and I'm just curious how do you create new artifacts, I can't find a thread for it.

If you want to learn the basics of changing (modding) Heroes 3 graphics (e.g., to change an existing artifact) see Introduction to Modding and Scripting by GnollKing.

If you want to learn how to use ERM scripts to change artifact properties, read ERM Help (HTML document by the WoG Team).

If you want to learn how to use an Era plugin to add new artifacts (without replacing existing ones), read Adding New Artifacts by OxFEA.

(If you want to learn about Era, download it from the sticky thread and read the introduction and manual.)

I want to get the hint text when I am in the Kingdom Overview...but can't use HT as it's not an object. Is there an address where the text would be stored? It's for creatures to be bought, so it would look something like "View Black Dragon Info"

thx

I think (haven't tested) that the Hint Text UN:C address is the same as the one used in Dragon Peaks for the Town Screen (listed in the DP thread) - it works also for the Spell Book in Hidden Spells. Anyway, I would try that one. If it doesn't work a new address will have to be searched for, as that is the only one I have used so far.

Not the same one sadly. I don't have hex editing software anymore, but if anyone finds it-it would be very useful.

What I want to do is prevent buying certain creatures using the Kingdom Overview. If you know a better way to do this, that also would be great...I could not think of anything.

EDIT: The string used is held at 6979712. However this is 'Get %s Info' so it's not the hint text, just the accessed string. So now I'm at the point where I'd need a hex editor...hope this is a good starting place

Dragon Peaks prevents all buying of creatures from the Kingdom Overview screen, by the shotgun-approach of not allowing the player to click the Town icon in the KO screen. (Before this capability was mentioned in the DP thread I had never used it and was not aware of it, so it did not seem like a significant loss to me.)

Another way of course would be remove the player's gold when the KO button is clicked and restore it when the player clicks the KO exit (via XFiles) or types 'Esc' or 'Enter' in the KO screen (Era FU77xxx).

A third way would be to replace the KO screen with a custom DL.

My choice would be the first one (of course).

Sorry interrupting your conversation again, guys, but this post is directed at JimV, who said:

Yes! That's what I asked in my first post. Am I in the right place? Obviously not. Can you please post me a link to WOG FAQ thread?  Call me stupid - and I'm sure you will - but I have not been able to find any WOG related chatter other than this thread.

Thanks!

g_t, I try not to call people stupid (and it would be against the forum rules). I am sorry if my postscript suggesting an alternate thread was offensive but I honestly had no idea you wouldn't be able to find it in two clicks.  Here is what I was getting ready to state while Sol beat me to it:

1) Find the line at the top of this page which says:

Heroes Community > Heroes 3.5 - Wake of Gods > Thread: ERM help and discussion

2) Click on the second part (Heroes 3.5 - Wake of Gods) to go to the first page of the list of threads on this forum (all of which are supposed to apply to WoG).

3) Somewhere within the first eight "sticky" threads you will find "Welcome to the WoG forum! (FAQ)" - that is the one I was referring to.  (Click on it to read it.)

4) See also the sticky thread "Wake of Gods Forum Links" for links to various important topics.

Kegolo - on two of my machines (XP and Windows 7) and several starts, I have always so far found the hint text for the KO page starting at 0x697428.  (But OxFEA will have a better solution.)

oxfea: I want to get the hint text string so I can compare it to "View Black Dragon Info" so I prevent players from buying them through the Kingdom Overview.

I don't want to disable this completely though as some people may enjoy using KO to buy troops (I also was unaware it could be done until Dragon Peaks).

I'm sure this is wrong, but I thought this would get the hint text to z3:
!!UN:C6911016/4/?y1;
!!SN:Xy1;
!!SN:X?z3;

You need the address of the hint text in the SN:X buffer, so that SN:X?z will set the address of the z-variable to that value.

!!SN:X6911016;
!!SN:X?z3;

Note: this works in the Kingdom Overview screen, but not in some other screens.
