lol what? the poor guy was depressed and just wanted attention? I don't believe that at all. especially if he was using selcy to get information. he could have just made researches to find matter on the subject, but instead chose to be irrespectful and unsensitive by involving her it seems.

I welcome you, M'lady!
Don't dig me grave so hasty I do not gave up yet, just took me 20 mins to wrote this...
I'm utterly weak now but at least I see again. Hope the darkness won't pull me back...

Sorry Corribus I didn't think when I posted the email about the address it wasn't done maliciously.

Quote: I had mild suspicions myself, mostly due to Duke's melodramatic posting style through out the whole ordeal. I mean, sure it's tragic, but his lamentations seemed like they were taken from a Greek or Shakespearean tragedy.
Yet Duke acted that way in every other situation as well, writing poems and making statements about being noble. Acting all dramatic and stuff was kinda his thing.
...
Let's just hope this whole thing doesn't make us turn into absolute asses next time someone says they're sick.

I had my suspicions when somebody had told me what they were like. Such a sad sad man who desperately needs help. Anybody that makes up some story like this for attention needs all the help they can get.

@Mvass:
I would be very surprised if he came here with the exclusive purpose of trolling. He showed up several months before he even said he had cancer. He actually created his account in 2009 before going absent for an extended time period. He talked in the Altar and even created a Dungeon faction. That seems like a lot of work and time just to build people's trust and have some laughs. I think it's a lot more likely he was just a regular forum member and at some point he had the idea of soaking in attention with the whole cancer scheme. Notice how he had a particular obsession with Meroe, even though among all the posters she wasn't even a good target to focus on. There are tons of more sensitive posters that he could have focused on and easily gotten a bigger reaction out of. Instead he picked some calloused chick. Why would a troll do that? Sounds more like the methods of an emotionally ill, lonely person.
It was Duke's personality all along that made me wonder if the cancer story wasn't bull**** from the beginning. He has the kind of melodramatic personality that would do something like that. Duke and Mentat both had similar syntax, but if I wasn't mistaken, Mentat seemed to be noticeably worse at English than Duke was, which kept me from being convinced they were the same person.

My vague, polite, not really personal, but genuine pity for a creepy guy dying of cancer somewhere has just been turned into a vague, polite, not really personal, but genuine pity for a creepy guy dying of forever-alone somewhere and I see that's the case with most of you folks too. Except for Evinin, who I always thought was far too gentle for the internet.
In retrospective, there have been enough clues around for us to suspect something like this, like that Starcraft thread and whatnot, but I'm pretty sure no one really paid that much attention to the whole thing and just went with the automatic "nah, why would anyone do that. If he's really faking it, good for him" response whenever our minds brought it up.
That said, it's a wonder how much of a creep magnet HC is.
Right. Where were we.

I don't think he came here with the exclusive purpose of trolling. I think he found the community, got to know people, and thought it'd be fun to troll them. I did something like that once (the DeadMan experiment in the OSM), but it was for an April Fool's joke. I do understand the impulse to troll like that, though I think the way he chose to do it was with something that should not be made light of like that. I think the most wrong thing was not that he tricked the community like this, but that he inappropriately chose something as sensitive as "dying of cancer" as his story. If it was something else, I'd have thought something like, "Oh, haha, well done, you pulled our leg."

Ouch. That was surprisingly venomous. I actually feel a bit insulted for once in my life. It feels kind of weird.
edit: Oh wait a minute. You're saying that it's the case with most of us also as in we share your feelings. Okay. Major misinterpretation, lulz.
I read it three times and kept wondering what in the world triggered the outburst of hostility, then I figured out what you meant.

Well, I still hold to the theory that he did it for creepy reasons. The shoe fits better based on everything that I knew about him.
Since he's officially a permanent outcast, I will say that I honestly never really liked the guy much anyway. He would always go on and on about his nobility, which is an awkward subject by itself, plus when I was in the middle of a perfectly good sexual assault, he would interrupt me by being chivalrous. Don't ever interrupt a squirrel when he's in the middle of a molestation. We take the art very seriously.
And this, HC ladies, is a perfect example of why being a straight man or a lesbian is better than being a gay man or a woman. We get to have you as our opposite gender. But what are you struck with? Yeah, that's right: us. Sucks to be you.

Just last night I was thinking about how his situation was going bad and when the expected thing happens, was gonna put him into a custom map to pay respects to do the least I can do for that sake.
I can't believe this. I seriously can't believe this. How can a person be this heartless, get this low? I actually cried for the man, told my friends about him.
Hypocracy has gained a new level. Using a lethal sickness as a tool, using the emotions of pity and sadness for the sake of attracting attention. What can cause for a human to be this way?
I am utterly disgusted.
The doubt, that I see most of you had, has never even crossed my mind. Cause it cancer! Noone can joke about it, let alone using it this way. It's proven I'm too naive despite all the **** I've seen. Damn.
EDIT: OMG, this is why Mentat said above the picture he put that the picture will only stay for a short time in Real life pictures thread. Guess he randomly picked a profile picture from Facebook

I didn't pay enough attention to her but took her at her word instead. Oops. I got snookered. I did have a vague tingling in my spine about her regarding her sense of duty in coming here and relaying Duke's condition.

I think a mod reply to what Ohforfsake would be good.
Although I should say, if you don't believe Mentat is Duke, at least we know that Duke is posting on other sites, so obviously he is not in the state (unconcious, only breathing with the help of the machine) he has mention in the thread, so the sickness was obviously a lie.
Also, if they were indeed seperate people and Mentat was a close friend (or girlfriend, I don't remember), it was pretty strange that she was joking around in those VW threads while her loved one is on the verge of death.
The other thing is that in "Did you know?" thread she says (to Duke) "as you once said" "once you have told me" in her first post before everything she says. But in her second post replying to Del_Diablo she is suddenly an expert on the issue like Duke.
Of course, I'm realising these now.
Also, I don't think the mods would come out and open this thread if they weren't %100 sure.
But again, a mod reply should come, I think.
