I got such a crash once in Stronghold 3. In the beta2 I also got these crashes pretty often, always when starting a (manual) battle.

Hey there! Ye I saw it, it looks fantastic. I actually think one of our art team is going to comment on it, but it's up to them. This is a question for Ubisoft, not Limbic. So maybe Marzhin will see the question and pop in to give you an answer, as well as me pushing it up the ladder for you.
My personal Opinion is i'de love for everyone to be able to use it, but that by no means has any bearing on whether this will be the case. Looking forward to all the mods that will be made for heroes 7.some of the ones for 3 and 5 are really impressive!

so Dan, although I do love being community managed, you gotta admit community managing a game with 66 Metacritic and 39% on Steam can't be easy,
therefore I wanted to ask you a philosophical question, are you a person who enjoys having obstacles in your life which you can overcome or are you an individual whose insecurities sabotage your potential to overcome those obstacles lol
feel free to ask Ubisoft if you can't find the answer lol

Overall, I don't know how many times I went through combat on that map and like you said, most worked just fine. It was only 2 cases where I crashed out - and next time I loaded up, they went through just fine.
So, in one hand, it's a pity it doesn't happen more often, because that would give a lot more information about a probable cause - but since it happens only rarely, seemingly, its impact isn't very large either.

My simple theory is that the issue comes from massive memory leaks. I found out during the CB2 that each resave and reload adds a bit more to the RAM consumption until at about 7GB I would crash every time I'd try entering a battle, any battle. Not completely sure if that's the real reason, but at least worth mentioning.

Agreed but hey it's still a crash at the end of the day and it still gives a bad light on the game. If I can get a fix with the help of you guys n gals to put the game in a better shape, it's better for everyone.

Are you investigating desyncs or crashes in multiplayer? I've had an issue where one hero is attacking a unit-less hero in online multiplayer causes the game to hang. There are no messages of any kind, just an hourglass that won't go away and I can't issue any commands anymore.

Certainly am and I can tell you we've got a fix for a lot of them (de-syncs) as well as tackling the others that are cropping up. Again feel free to send me an email with log files (mentioned above how to do it) even if you didn't crash we can use the log to find out why that particular de-sync happened and fix it. Also this unit hanging thing is fixed.

I've had a couple of logs come in and they're already super helpful. For the people who have crashed randomly entering combat maps could you do me a favor and verify your files on Uplay.
Open Uplay, click heroes 7, left hand side click properties then find the verify files button. From a couple of logs it seems that some warfare units were corrupt and causing a crash. Verifying will fix that particular issue.

I was in the Army for 7 years in the parachute regiment so you guys are positively lovely to me

Totally agree. More than likely it is some sort of memory leak after a long play session (Long being objective of course) but I can still use that log file because we will be able to work out WHAT is leaking. So it's all useful.

Hey hey. Give him a break. It takes a lot of courage to go public atm from a Limbic Ubisuck point of view. If I was a Limbic Ubibug worker right now, I'd be holed up in my little home, nail wooden boards to my windows and weather the storm.

Uhmm, I just checked my logfiles of when the crashes occured and one of the two is more than 30 MBytes in size. I don't think mail servers are happy with attaching files of that size .
Regardless, I scrolled to the very bottom of either file to find the reason for each of those two crashes. It seems it couldn't find a required asset in one of the games' files, despite it loading just fine after restarting the game and reloading the latest savegame.
