This is exactly what they did.
What do you mean? On code level I don't think they reused anything from BH codebase. While thematically the game is more like H5 than H6.

At least if we compare H6 to H5 and H7 to H5, H7 is MUCH closer to H5 which is a step in positive direction. It can't just be exactly the same. Anyway regarding mechanics not too much has been inherited from H6. Zone control and 3 tier system comes now only to my mind.

Additional content depends on sale of main game - which depends on how good it is. I don't see that much selling potential, considering the reviews, and I personally also think that the game is pretty boring, uninspred and lackluster.

There is more than that, and it has been demonstrated and explained by others better than I would do myself, just look for older posts and threads. This thread in particular has a nasty tendency of repeating overused arguments over and over and over and over again.

Well that ofcourse can be. But really, who knows, you can't see into the future. Maybe this time UBI will decide to buid on H7 instead of doing a H8 which would be IMO a good idea.

I don't think it is such a good idea, from their view. For if they are aiming on improving the game to have more customers, I doubt that'd work, considering many people know "the real deal".
I'd rather have them save funds and make a Heroes VIII, so they at least can get their stuff right.

Ahhh, but who wants to wait 2 more years. Actually 3 because they'll again start with max 6 factions and then add others in expansions.

Indeed, I can't see the future. We can, however, see the past and learn from it. And what does tell us the past?
* That no Heroes expansion has ever come with more than one Faction.
* That no Heroes has received more than two expansions.
* That even H6 got an expansion (so expecting at least one for H7 is reasonable).
* That almost everything in H7 screams cheapness and cutting corners in the budget.
* That Ashan doesn't support more than 9 factions as of right now.
Face it, this game won't receive a complete revamp and lots of content coming out of nowhere. It will most likely have an expansion, but not with a huge investment from Ubisoft. Base game didn't had one, and the negative reviews pretty much ensure the possible expansions won't either.
One faction plus a couple of capaigns and some goodies? Yes. Massive investement and introducing a brand new tenth faction when they have repeatedly voiced against it? Nope.
Keep your feet on the ground, it will do you good.

Three more magic schools would be cool. I don't like the spider though, because it is neither dead nor undead (or is it?). But anyway not a big deal that one accidentally slipped into the necro lineup, it’s not the end of the world IMO.

Are people doing this on purpose? It's not the problem of one unit, but of the whole town concept.

The Ebon Spider / Death Spider in Necropolis is considered an Undead unit.

Well, to be perfectly honest Erwin did say in the fan day interview there could finally be more than nine factions, but again, he said many things which didn't turn out to be true in the end.

Well, miracles can happen, and Ashan can explode, as it's happened with Axeoth So there is still hope, for future changes. Who knows?

By original one I mean one created from scratch (not reused). Dwarf, demon, sanctuary is ok. So is the spider really (lore-wise) undead or just from a game mechanics point of view? If the former, that's cool! Does it look like undead, is it rotting ?
