Well, this is a sound alternative, I agree. The only moment, that has nothing to do with the topic, though, is in that that I don't know whether they built their code without disassembling the game or not. For me it's important to save every little bit of the original game mechanics. The HotA team can provide it. The VCMI team, probably, base their code only on observations.

This reminds me of how Dungeon Keeper 1 had super creative and unusual monsters, and Dungeon Keeper 2 was just all some variant of humanoids.

What's the deal, why not cast more spells?
Well, at least the image is somewhat fun
On the other hand, its humanoids all the way down

Do Fanstratic being playable turns by turns without simultaneous option but in playing together in the same turn ? (both players move hex by hex and make tactics decisions, and then there s a specific turn for battle - kind of)
I asked because i know there s an issue between fans considering HOMM as a single player game and other as a multiplayer game. I have to admit that if it s a single player direction, i won t have time for playing.

New newsletter, very short, nothing exciting. It seams game is on the verge of being cancelled or in best case scenario it will take a very long time to reach any kind of playable state since Greg is tirelessly reminding us of his bad health situation.
All in all we should not expect anything concrete soon, in the future or probably ever.

Yeah it looks like a couple more newsletters have come in over the year. With Newsletter 43 Greg finishes his the rather laborious blow by blow story about E3.. it's a very very long read although if you like reading about the E3 days then it's kinda interesting.

With Newsletter 44 it's all sounding pretty grim due to his health getting worse. He's only getting about 1hr of work in a week and is thinking about cancelling Fanstratics and just finishing off his Heroes 3 recollections.

Previously, (Newsletter #44), I touched upon my continuing health issues and the perpetual lack of progress. I have tried numerous approaches to alleviate my collection of conditions, with mild degrees of success, but my accumulated experience and research point to the obvious. My illness is more than likely permanent, and I will likely never again be what I was when I started this project.
While my spirit is willing, my flesh is weak, and I need to be honest with myself and those of you who subscribed to this newsletter. My chances of finishing Fanstratics are remote. Thus, I am concluding development.
As for the future, considering my physical and mental decline, I need to step back and figure out what I can and cannot accomplish. I have enjoyed writing the HoMM3 Recollections, and I think I could turn them into a memoir. We’ll see what happens.
In my welcome email to these newsletters, I said this would be a journey. Not all excursions are successful.
