Yes, so I would never select him as a start hero. But when I play random and the computer is giving me ryland as start hero - what choice do I have. I didn't have the money to buy a different hero ... and ... and ...

I like Ryland, I find with a few strong stacks nearly every unit joins him (Don't ask me why)

I have divided opinions about Inferno. It's a pretty cool town and has some nice units(devils, pit-lords, efreti) but then again... imp's are a total joke, gog's/magog's can end up killing your entire army. I'ts also a very expensive town to play(no problem on maps with many diff. resources). Their Grail bulding can make imp's a bit more buffed but thats it(not good if your enemy has a Inferno town).

Fiona is probably the best starting hero for inferno. Inferno wants a nonenative hero as main and at lvl 2 you have an expert scouter with Fiona and dogs with nice speed for your main. Even if you are unlucky and dont find a good main you can use Fiona without it being a total disaster.

Apart from the high chance of getting fire, what is bad about marius and nymus? or even Pyre! Balistta is a waste for you, i know... but logistic from the beggining makes it up for the waste skill.

The problem is that you need earth AND air and the chances to get both are to low with: Fire 4, earth 3, air, 2 and water 1.
You probably should take fire when its offered and then just hope water wont be offered. But in that case its a problem that Pyre allready has a lost skill. Its also a problem that Marius and Nymus risk losing a skill at lvl 3.
10 in log is very good, but they only have 4 in pf. 8,7,6 in off, arm and tacs is pretty good so its not like they are bad heroes, there are just others that are better.

Well, if you compare them to Barbarians we have no argument Shakti and Dace are better too. But thats not much, so these 3 demoniacs are above avarege in general.

Kyrre, Mepha, Neela, Monere, all beasts and most overlords are better too imo. But I agree they are sligtly above average might heroes. Still you can find better heroes for main in most games.

In most of the games Kyrre is forbiden. And it will be pleasure to argue eather Neela is that good hero. I personaly dont like her that much. She has awlfull primary skill advancement, has 1 lost skill since the begining and bad secondary skill advancement. Event the armorer special cound not make up for all this setbacks and if you count that in the beggining of the game she has nothing to offer she is way beyond most of the might heroes.

Please don't turn this thread into a "who is best hero" thread. It should still be Inferno related somehow..

I used to think the same way about neela but armor spec. is just so extremly heavy. 4 air, 3 earth, 2 water and 1 fire means that you can decline fire and water and still be pretty certain you get earth and air. In most cases she will get some good 2nd skills in the end too allthough her numbers arnt as good as the demons.

For me most of the barbarians, shakti, dace, damacon, lacus, fiur, tazar, mephala, alkin... are all better than Neela. Even Gundula is better - in the begginig offence helps you more that armorer

Hi,
I consider Inferno the worst town overall in HOMM 3.
Why?
There are no real stand-out creatures here and all of them are expensive, the growth is below average.
Only Arch Devil, Pit Lord and Magogs are the ok creatures here, all the others are weak or too expensive compared to other towns.
Mage Guild is OK.
Special buildings? - Town Gate is almost useless when you have Town Portal - and most of the times you have it.
Regards,
Champ.

Inferno is more of a magic town than might; e.g. have a look at the non-upgraded 7 lvl unit - an emaciated, apron-wearing, squeaky-voiced guy named "Devil"? With pathetic attack skill and damage? Seriously, I know PLENTY of 6 lvl units better than him (not than the ARCH Devil, though).
Efreeti Sultan are immune to Fire Spells and have fire shield, but unless they attack the stack of (more numerous) Master Genies, I am not that sure they'll win the duel, as Master Genies really can get angry enough to attack much above their 5th level when against Efreet.
Pit Lords - more some kind of sorcerers than rough warriors, but the thing is neither does it repay to use their ressurecting ability, nor are they a decent match for other 5 th level units unless their commander has high attack skill.
Cerberi - non-retaliatory attack is an efficient ability but they only deal a decent damage when attacking three stacks at the same time, in one-to-one combat, they're weak.
The rest are pathetic, objectively.

Once i made a map to play with my brother. To my amusement i edited it with 2000 friendly imps near my town. My brother laughed so hard when he saw on week 3 that i was destroying everything with just imps. Ahhh good times.
BTW i like Inferno but i think some creatures are lacking benefits, i dont know...like familiars should be inmune to magic or something. I think the wog addon balanced Inferno.
I hate when im inferno and there´s only one inferno town in the map...its like giving a hero the knowledge of town portal but not giving him the spell book.
In LAN game, in a "4 any town" vs "4 inferno" , i always imagined the disaster it would be if one inferno player managed to get the grail building early in the game.
But then, i just wondered that as it never happened.
So...had to say this as the rest of my thoughts were written by u guys above. In conclusion, IMO the lowest town rating.
