Since when did the Senate have any say over the Federal Reserve? The chairman has to be approved, but other than that I thought the Fed is entirely on it's own.

Yeah, Binabik is right. Only the Fed can set interest rates. (Or, rather, the Board of the Federal Reserve.)

Yeah, but the point was how "sound" his economic knowledge is. That is way worse than his knowledge on foreign policy - which is horrible as well.

Look at his other economic views, though. He was smart enough to oppose the Bush tax cuts, he opposes drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, and he supports free trade. He probably has the best economic views out of any of the candidates. If only his social views and foreign policy were as good.
I'm beginning to lean towards McCain. Obama's economic views... I just don't like them. I still support Obama over McCain, but...

McCain in front of both Clinton and Obama on the news last time I saw??
I think the world should be able to sue USA for voting in these idiots. One of the most powerful positions in the world that affects everyone, yet we don't get a say... And lately you don't seem to be doing such a great job of choosing for us!

That's just one poll. Whenever one poll deviates from the norm, it gets undue attention. Remember how "far ahead" Obama was in New Hampshire?

Why should you have a say in who runs our country? I don't go and vote for members of your parlimant, so why should you have a vote for my representatives and senators? You get to pick your leaders, so let us pick ours.

Because America runs much more than America.
But it wasn't a serious proposition that we should get to vote.

Heck, I am not convinced OUR votes count. For all we know, they just throw them away and say whoever they chose has won. . Yeah, I know the likelyhood is somewhere in the area of one octillion to 1, but hey. That and the electorial colledge seems to be more important then popular vote.

American comeback to when Australians hate George Bush:
American: "Hey, wait a second, your Prime Minister went to war without your country's approval too!"
"Yeah.... alright, we're even "
American: "No we're not... You voted for your guy!"

Well, don't forget, even if our votes really do elect the president..
Special interests and lobbyist actually run the government. They have bribed, blackmailed, or otherwise influenced things to go their way. Money controls the votes, not the people voting.

Though the main power of lobbyists used to come from bribery, I don't think it does anymore. Today it simply comes from two things: that they have more knowledge of the law than an ordinary person, and that they have better access to lawmakers.

Fromm his web site:Quote: Cut The Corporate Tax Rate From 35 To 25 Percent.
I'm not sure about this. He does, however make one good argument:Quote: Lower corporate taxes leads to higher wages.
Or to lower product costs.
Quote: Allow First-Year Deduction, Or “Expensing”, Of Equipment And Technology Investments.
Don't have much of an opinion on this.
Quote: Establish Permanent Tax Credit Equal To 10 Percent Of Wages Spent On R&D.
Pretty good idea.
Quote: Cut Taxes On The Middle Class
Not a bad idea.
Quote: Keep Tax Rates Low
Maybe, but he wants to keep Bush's irresponsible tax cuts.
Quote: Reward Saving, Investment and Risk-Taking
Yes. America has a negative savings rate, which is terrible.
Quote: Ban Internet Taxes
Ban New Cell Phone Taxes
Sure.
Quote: Lower Medicare Premiums
Sure.
Quote: Reform Social Security
It needs it.
Quote: Lower Barriers to Trade
Yes. Definitely.
Quote: Competitive American Workers
Yes.
Overall, it doesn't sound too bad. Certainly better than anything any Democrat has to offer.

The demo contest is turning out to be a tight race. I think the tightest I remember. Usually it's known who the candidate will be much earlier than this. Maybe Consis in Oregon will cast the deciding vote after all.
I already did my part. The Republican race had already been decided, but I went in to vote against all the property taxes without reading them.
