Model editing (programmer needed)

I edited a model. That's right, I EDITED A MODEL!!!!!!!!

l never thought I'd see the day, but sure enough, after hours of fiddling I finally managed to edit a geometry file - in particular, the Griffin LOD.

Proof:

I have to say, I'm still stunned. This sort of thing doesn't usually work out. However, though I hate to break it to you, don't expect any new models coming soon. To do that we need to find an easy way to modify them, this way is too unpredictable (just editing the file in a hex editor) - hence the random spike. And that is beyond me - we'd probably need CrazyPill's knowledge for that, and he's too busy to say unfortunately (I did ask).

And yeah, spammy title, but I had to create a little suspense .

Unbelievable... top work Gnoll Mage

Explain the possibilities this opens for us, I'm too dumbstruck to read between the lines myself...

This sticking out thingy makes me aroused, but I'm not convinced if it can lead us anywhere.

What actually is the current knowledge about (im)possible model changing?

Close to nothing. We can modify the coordinates of individual points, but there's no `click and drag point`, we just have to type in numbers and see which point moves where. If someone has Maya, we could convert it to wrl, then ma, edit, then convert back (I think, maybe not) - but then we'd need a wrl2mesh, which doesn't exist.

PS Thanks Cepheus! ^^

I have a mesh2wrl, does anyone know how to open up .exe files and...I dunno, disect them and make them work?  If nothing ahh ahh ahha!!!!  Idea!!!! If I can edit them in 3DS MAX and then, I dunno, run a program to find the hexlocation of all points, then all we have to do is copypaste it into whatever you edit the geometries with. if that makes sense...

Anyway, if nothing else we can do a few things: Give the demons more horns, Create longer/shorter weapons, etc.

So can 3DS load wrl files?

PS I'll try to get a description up of how to do this.

Yes.  And I just realized that wrl is connected to a language I have used before so editing the points will not be all that confusing.

Also, I've done some testing and I can get 3DS MAX to ping me the name of the Vertex, so I can figure them out very quickly, assuming they are named/numbered sensibly.

If you can edit it and save it, I could change the model manually, and spend about a year.
So, we'd need a piece of software to do it (wrl2mesh), which I could possibly do (now that I think about it), if I had the time and the ability to type that much code with impunity (i.e. without pain). So we need to find someone who can write binary-editing programs to make one that reforms the new mesh file - and then, we'd have our model in game! So there's a little more promise than I thought.

Yeah the 2 of them limit the edits we can make, but I guess we can slim the peasant etc.. In case I do give it a go, could I possibly have a sensibly, slightly-yet-visibly modified Griffin wrl please?

Edit: Vokial, could you rename this thread to "Model editing (programmer needed)" please?

This is the wrong thread to be posting in while watching Doctor Who: World War Three!

Give me a little bit of time, I will fix the Griffin.  I just have to find the file in the data.pak.

Urg, Media Fire is USELESS!  What is your email address?
