It should be legalized. I read in some newspaper a week ago that the US spends 8 billion a year against Marijuana. If it was legalized the US could make money off of tariffs and taxes on Marijuana. This money could go to schools.
So by legalizing Marijuana we are helping the children!

I agree with Dingo, Marijuana should be legalised. It is nothing but a soft drug, and I hear it does good things to the lungs. From what I know, there are hospitals in Canada that use it to cure astmatics and such. And furthemore, look at Holland, they legalise it and they can keep things under control. Even better, the criminal rate has diminished, since being a outlaw dealer isn't profitable anymore.

Wolfman I read your Marijuana and Teens article.
Quote: Two-thirds of youth ages 13-17 say losing the respect of their family and friends is one of the main reasons they don't smoke marijuana or use other drugs.
Quote: Half of teens say there is “great risk” in losing their friends if they smoke marijuana.
This is complete BS. If anything marijuana introduces you to new people. I don't know why friends would ditch friends because of new hobbies, if they do that, then they are not very good friends.

Wolfman, why do you have these strong opinions about Marijuana? Have you tried it yourself? Or is there anyone among your friends/family who got negatively affected from smoking?

Of course I havn't tried it. I don't need holes in my brain, thank you very much. I don't need to smoke to know it's bad for me.
I do know people who started smoking marijuana. One guy in particular, started smoking marijuana in 5th grade, around age 10-11. Then he went on to many other kinds of drugs. Finally he started smoking regular cigarettes to try to stop doing other drugs, now he's addicted to cigarettes. He will not graduate high school with the rest of our class due to his addictions interfering with school.
Is this harmless? Marijuana is a "gate-way" drug, it leads to other drugs as it did in this case.

Well, you delivered an important argument in favour of legalizing marijuana (myself I´m undecided whether or not this is a good idea, by the way): The 'gateway drug' effect towards more dangerous drugs would be considerably lessened, because of their different legal status.
Besides, I doubt that anyone here wants giving any sort of drug (alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana) to a 10-year old, as in your example, to be made legal. Marijuana would of course have at least the same restrictions as the other legal drugs.

I do not believe in "The Gateway Drug" theory. I believe that it is simply that marijuana is something that all the hardcore drug addicts do anyway. If you are going to do crack and PCP and all other kinds of really bad drugs, then you will do pot.
Unfortunately, Marijuana cannot be legal. I would certainly make it legal, however the problem is people driving while under the influence of marijuana. I consider this to be just as dangerous as alcohol. Any moron who tells you that it helps you concentrate is completely wrong. It does not help you think. The reason alcohol can be legal is because we have ways of testing to see whether or not the person is drunk. This is by using a breathalyzer test. There is no method to see whether or not a person is high from marijuana. Marijuana stays in the body for a couple weeks, so you cannot tell the difference between an individual who is high on marijuana and an individual who has taken marijuana in the past few days.

When Legalized, have laws saying don't drive under the influence of marijuana. I believe if the police wanted to they could create a test or a machine that indicates, if someone is high. When someone is high it can be very obvious. Bloodshot eyes, glossy eyes, chink eyes and stuff like that. So I believe if the law officals really wanted to, they could figure out a way to know for sure.
Just last week a good friend of mine got in an accident when was a little blazed. He spilled his soda, got distracted and hit a parked car.

But there is no way of testing to see if you are high. Don't you think the police department would like to be able to do that? There is no concrete way of detemining whether someone is high or had used marijuana over the past 2 weeks.
