I admit i haven't played a lot of games as inferno - i haven't thought of early topia battles a lot. So i don't really know how much the dragons prefer to strike at the pit lords. I have noticed the AI tries to get at them, but in a regular map fight the AI stands little chance. I guess there is a trick and a correct number of pit lords vs gogs that does the trick and if i had to i would've risked it - to go into the topia with the mentioned tactic i.e. 2 x 15 gogs and all pit lords. or if i felt strong i wouldn't take the pit lords in.

If someone feels like it - please post a good inferno topia battle!

Well, it depends how large are the stacks . If there are enough pit lords to kill a dragon in retaliation they will probably look for another target . Lead them by Crag Hack or Gundula and it's even worse. Stats of hero are primordial here, a good defense is also interesting to preserve the pit lords or a simple shield spell. Shield + armorer skill is a bless in those fights.

It could be interesting to find the minimum normal army (from 1 town, not hives and conservatories) to defeat the different utopias with not much casualties. Of course preferable with low-level spells (no resurrection, force field, etc).

Both players will go for tactics when fortress is involved and massslow only wont do you much good if the opponent has mass haste. Mass haste is key for fortress and will give you a very powerfull attack.



Fortress is one of the few towns where i do take water magic if offered to my beastmaster. While a mass haste would be lovely with fortress I sometimes don't get the skill in time so I go with water magic if offered first.

Due to many slow units (4 out of the 6) if you don't have either tactics or mass haste you're in pretty bad shape.

Well... they are certainly not the most famos shooters, but its surprising what importance they may have.

1. Due to the fact they are level 2, it means you can get them from villages. There a lot of templetes, that you have same town alighment in your area (without fort).

2. Because they are level 2, you get more lizards from your heroes each week. And its not rare to have dwelling.

So, if you can keep your lizards, you may have a healthy bunch of them in final battle. Because they have uncharacteristicly big defence for a shooter, they become pretty tough in shooting battle against the enemy shooters.

And its important to have considareble group of shooters in endfight for a strategical reason. Even if you are outshoot, the enemy will remain with less or almost no shooters. This allows you not to go nececerily toward him.

If you are totaly outshooted, you just have to go for him. And this is not the best scenario for an endfight.

Remember, half of the games Red Orb is present or for some reason you dont have mass haste.

I know they're important especially in the beginning for creeping purposes. But as time goes on they're usually the least important unit from a full fortress army. No nifty ability, crappy damage. The lizards are better suited for tanking than for shooting. You will be outmatched most of the time, and even if you aren't, fortress' strength is in its walkers and wyverns. That's what you have to make effective use of.

The opponent won't engage your lizards in a shooting war anyway. He'll most likely go for the damage dealers and the dangerous fortress units (gorgs, hydras). I'm not saying they're completely useless, but you go for tactics and haste for the other 6 units, not for the lizards.

Red orb appearing in half the games is purely a template choice issue. If you play maps with 5 dragon utopias on it and filled with relics,  then sure, somebody will probably get it.

Its kind of contradiction. If map is long and rich enough to build big army of high level and to have enough hives present... there is pretty high chanse of red orb.

But there is a lot of relatively poor and fast maps.

Lets take Balance for example. Unless someone break into hive zone, its pretty common to fight week 2 without level 7 army. Or at most 3 hydras/behemots not upgraded offcourse.

Be sure, that in such scenario shooting is important.

Offcourse, i am not saying that the lizards are the main force for fortress. Not even near to it. I am just saying, that they have their importance. At least in half of the maps.

And they make excellent decoys - i almost love it when AI chooses to strike at my Lizardmen : )
The real issue is when to upgrade them on which template. I tend to go for other upgrades first and sometimes there simply is no time to upgrade the lizards.

Depends on the map and on how many you have.
It's a very good upgrade in my opinion, it increases their firepower by 40%. However, in reality, it only makes a really sucky unit better, but still sucky

It's not a priority upgrade, always go for the hydras, moos, wyverns and basiliks first. Dragon flies is not even an issue, you need that speed.

I don't like the conflux because of its overpoweredness
The same with Necro

And fortress is the most underpowered town ever.

With this TE necro nerf it is pretty tolerable.
Conflux, I admit I have NEVER played conflux..ever. And i probably won't.

But Fortress, well, it is not as weak as it might seem to you. I was surprised also.

Yes, Solmyr is bad. Don't get missleaded by his soooo usefull chainlightning. You cast it once, and then you need to refill mana. And he won't get all the good and helpfull secondary skills like Logistics, Offense, Armorer, Tactics that easy, because magic heroes like him (and Deemer of course) tend to get offered magic related skills (or those more or less non usefull 2ndary skills) like Sorcery, Mysticism, Learning, Eagle Eye, Scholar, Intelligence and so on.

Try to find some threads here in the library (Table of Contest helps a lot) refering to Might or Magic heroes. You will learn a lot.

And only because you start with Tower doesn't mean you have to use a Tower hero as main. Just take a look in the tavern (every now and then) and try to find a better hero.

And after you have read those, you will kill your friend on hot seat with a good might hero (preferable a barbarian) without a doubt..
