Titanium, if you lack a spiritual side that doesn't entitle you to make fun of us.

And God is able and not willing but does that make him malvolent?
No. Tell me if you have a child you would be able to do his homework
but would you do it?
If you truly loved him you would let him do it by himself.

Same goes to God, he gave us free will so it's we and only we responsible for evil so why does God have clean our own mess.
He gave us the tools (prophets) but we are not wise enought to be truly responsible human beings.

Spirit. What a noble and cool sounding word.
Doesn't mean it holds much grounds though.

And I'm not making fun of you. and lool like you can talk, condemning all gays to hell. you stop wishing all gays were dead first

Homework = learning, not evil.
Nice parallel though.

I didn't say it wasn't a comfort, I said it was a waste of life when they could be out having fun and being happy
Why isn't TV a waste then as well? With this perspective everything is a waste -- playing computer games, going to church, everything is a waste -- people find fun in games, or comfort in church (religious I mean), or in meditation (yoga for example), all lead to 'happiness', but only one of them is fun, there are other 'ways'.

Quote:
I have no idea where you got that from.
I meant that you don't care to know the truth as long as it won't affect your physical body.

Knowing something is spiritual, not physical. And you don't care to know unless it affects your body. That's why I said that

Quote:
If god exists, then I guess I'm very wrong indeed. But he doesn't.
You seem to be sure you have the ultimate senses (and no other human could've been better than you/atheists, like my example with Jesus). Because you know God doesn't exist.

something perhaps unrelated:
Atoms were believed to be different years ago, and will probably be different some years from now. Our views change. But we currently "believe" in the current model.

Quote:
If he did have this spiritual sense, then I would be wrong to not have believed in him. But I still would have no reason to have believed in him in the first place. I can't take everyones word for everything!

Quote:
Everyone tells the blind people about light, not just some crazed carpenter. There's a difference.
That seems to be the problem -- people believe the majority, i.e popularity.

But popularity does not change the truth. Whatever the truth may be. Even if you are not sure God exists because you can't see him, you shouldn't believe in the popularity either.

Titanium you misunderstand me, this is not mercy but justice, God asked us to attempt to cure them, should they refuse then they will be purged.

anyway let me ask you something:
You know that the Coran was written in approximatly 620 After Jesus Christ. It was written by Mohammad who lived in Mecca.
As you know Christianity never had any influence and was unknown in this part of the world so how in the world did Mohammed write the story of Virgin Mary and Jesus in the Coran?

Another question:
As I said the Coran was written in 620, so how in the world did Mohammad know and write that the Earth was a round planet turning around the Sun?
Please don't tell me it was science for in 620 the arabian peninsula didn't have any type of science.

Anyway I don't think this will change your mind but what will?

There is always a discussion after a while when u talk about science, but there is always a fight after a while when u talk about religion.

Looks like science is more peacefull than religion, so I better stay there.....

You have a point. There are inevitably hotheads, on both sides, but more so religion. This tends to spark a fight, where both sides are so set in their ways they can't reason.(like here.)
Also, religion is more often seen as a direct insult to the parties involved- i.e., they're stupid because they don't believe this, or believe this, etc.

Not so sure about science discussions being peaceful. When you get scientists discussing certain points they also get fierce. Back in the day wave and particle theorists would fight about their points of view.
And social sciences such as politics, economics are even worse when they get into contested fields.

That's true, but rational choice theorists aren't proposing to burn their competitors at the stake.

There is a difference between heated arguments that are based on evidence and this kind of stomach turning nonsense.

edit: we should also add something to the CoC about posts that include some kind of 'don't penalise this but...' statement

She should and will be purged along with the rest of the scum.
She is worst than religious extremists for at least they blow themselves up for what they think is good.

No, they blow up the families of innocent people.
More people have been killed in the name of god than for any other reason.

Don't blame Ashrah. She is stating her opinon.

You are in the wrong necro. I wish I could see what you have said

And Kooka, do you think my faith is that weak, that a penalty will change my mind.

No, I think that your faith is very strong, just like Unhackable.
That's why you amuse me so

Why don't you delete ashrah post in Gay people when she insulted Mohammad, or are you all one-sided ?

Ashrah is allowed to state her dislike for a religion.
Mohammad isn't a member here. Ashrah is.

And Kook that post about anger is nice but some forms of anger are just:
when one sees a childish scum insulting a religion that many people died for is despicable.

So many people killed themselves and many other people for no reason.
That's worthy of insult, no?

Just because loads of people felt the need to kill themselves when the read a book which told them 'not to kill' doesn't mean that its a good thing.

Of course people blame God/religion for their 'wars', they can't find better excuses.

I can blame science as well for my killing: It should sound like "I KILL PEOPLE, because the mathematical rules tell me that humans need to be killed"

funny example I know, but proves the point

I think there is another problem that is not being addressed.  It seems like some people (atheists and religious alike) are making blanket statements about the other "group".  There are so many different value systems and morals and beliefs among fellow atheists and among fellow religious people that it makes no sense to make claims about one person's character or behavior based on the history of others in their religion, or non-religion.  To say that thousands of people have been killed in the name of God says nothing about the religious people posting here (HOPEFULLY!).   Also you can't assume that because an atheist doesn't follow God, he/she also does not behave according to many of the (univerally applicable) teachings in the bible out of the goodness of their own heart.  Conversely, there are many religious people out there who are corrupt and twist the teachings of their religion for their own gain.  And there are atheists who (since there is no God) are unscrupulous with no concern for the consequences of their actions.  So I conclude that there is only one "group" of people and that is humanity.  Maybe that's obvious, but people need to be reminded sometimes.

Alas, I think the only way this thread will not be a punching ground would be for the people here to actually get to know each other's true personal values and morals etc, beyond just the general teachings of the doctrine they follow.  But hey, if we have a lot of extreme people, maybe it will still be a punching groud.
