***Post-Patch v1.2 Cheat s***
What's the trick to enabling cheats following patching to version 1.2?
I edited the autoexec.cfg file to allow the console, however, any typed in cheat fails to work.

Really?
Because it still works for me.
After the patch is applied, the autoexec.cfg is edited, and the line allowing for the console to be opened is removed. You'll have to put it back in so it looks exactly like:
// Startup
mainmenu
setvar dev_console_password = schwinge-des-todes

curio, it did not edit my autoexec.cfg when I applied the patch,and the console command worked, but any of the commands that worked before do not work now. It tells me :Unknown command and then lists what I typed. it also says type help to list available commands, when I do this it lists some of the commands and the ones I can see, work, it lists a number 437, I assume this all of the commands available, but I don't know how to scroll through them or where they are stored.
Evidently something has changed the syntax or the commands themselves.

The "add_xxx" cheats no longer work, the "@" ones still work. I.e. if you want to add creatures to your hero, you can't use the good old "add_army x, y", you need to type the longer "@AddHeroCreatures ("In-game-hero-name", x, y);" (x being the creature code, y the amount you want).
Another (very minor) change is that there doesn't seem to be an error message for mistyped commands anymore. My computer often added an invisible "^" at the end of the line after selecting a previous command with the arrow up key. In version 1.1 this produced an error message, in 1.2 the command merely fails.
Commands that definitely still work (tried & tested):
@AddHeroCreatures
@ChangeHeroStat
@SetPlayerResource
@OpenCircleFog
@GiveArtifact
I suppose @TeachHeroSpell should also still work, but I haven't tried it.

I'm getting a bunch of different reports of what can or cannot be done now after the 1.2 patch. As of right now, I'm more than a little bewildered at how differently ppl's patches seem to be working, but I'll look into it.
For sure, the @ commands still work. Someone has told me that their other commands also work, like add_army, which is wonderfully wacky. And here are some saying their autoexec.cfg file is edited correctly, or unchanged by the patch, yet nothing seems to work.
Hmmm.
The only thing I can say is, hang in there. With the patch so newly released, we really don't know everything about it right away (just see all those hidden changes observed by players ).
Tyro: to scroll through what the help command lists, type help, Page Up, then enter. You should be able to use Page Up and Down with the list, then.

Okay, finally figured something out.
Yes, it seems only @ Commands can work with ppl who normally have 1.2--key word, normally.
But to the person claiming to me that that the other commands, such as add_all_spells that don't require the @ still worked for him or her post 1.2--this person is right.
Now, I'm merely presenting information, here. I'm not suggesting I agree with what this person's done, or that others should follow.
To be able to use the add_ commands after the 1.2 patch, this user MUST be (because I just tried it myself) using a certain game fix that allows Heroes V to run without the CD or DVD loaded. The odd thing about this fix is that while it allows for all the changes of 1.2 to be effected, upon starting the program, the version is listed as 1.0--I have no idea if this is intentional or not when this fix was created by the people.
Anyhow, this means the add_ commands work, but work according to 1.0 "rules"--such as, add_army gives 10 of a faction's units, where in 1.1, this changed to 100. Changing hero stats sets the #, where in 1.1, it adds the # you input into the console.
All other players who have a basic 1.2 setup should not be able to use the non-@ commands.
head_hunter: you need to be more specific, please. What's the console saying whenever you try to use the @ commands? In every case brought to me about the @ commands not working (excepting one Hotseat example, where a variety of cheats don't work), it's because of incorrect syntax.

WOW--hehe!
head_hunter, I was going to say, "As much as I hate to say it, there is no @ Command equivalent to add_skills."
But then, as soon as I was going to, I found the code!
Before it's official and I ask sfidanza to add it please (thanks again), I need other ppl to test this!!
As you may have gathered from my previous post, I am on the no CD/DVD thing to have tested the claim that someone is 1.2 and still using the add_***s. I'm going to revert back to plain normal 1.2 soon, but not as of yet--meaning, I'm not sure what I've been accomplishing is doable for everyone else.
The #s are the same. For anyone that will, please test in single player:
@GiveHeroSkill("Name", #);
The #s for the skills remain the same, as documented in the cheats doc. Post the results here, or PM me, if you would of the results!

If you can't learn the ability, the console may say "CHEAT: Adding skill to hero that cannot teach it. Teach basic skill first." This would of course indicate that say, you wanted Soldier's Luck, but haven't even given yourself Luck yet.
If that's not the case, check your skills and abilities. If you already have the "max" 3 abilities (say, Luck with Resistance, Soldier's Luck, and Resourcefulness), you can keep adding abilities (you also want Dead Man's Curse and Spoils of War), which is fine and will work, but will not show on the screen.
If that's not the case, make sure you're referring to the correct hero.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what could be happening. Does this occur with anybody else? Because I'm adding abilities just fine, as long as I have the skill.

If you didn't see the news yet, the guide has been updated. There is nothing you could do before 1.2 that you cannot do now. Ok, the commands are a little longer to type, but they work.
Oh, except cheating in multiplayer, but that's only fair!!
And I can tell you now, if you're into lua scripting, there will be more to come...

Syntax
Quote: I've tried all different kinds of syntax, I've used the Hero Name chart in the online guide and I still cannot get the cheat codes to work.
I even tried using the exe to get rid of the CD check.
example;
@AddHeroCreatures ( "Tan", TITAN, 25 );
@AddHeroCreatures ("Tan", 70, 25);
@AddHeroCreatures ("Galib", 70, 25);
I've tried all kinds of variations with spaces, capitol letters, with or w/out the name chart, and have tried different @ commands even.
I cannot get these to work at all, whether I try them in a saved game or a newly created one.
After typing them in the console I get a error response something like "AddHeroCreatures Nil value" "TITAN NIL value"
I am talking about a single player game also, I know they don't work in multiplayer and have read the online guide in and out.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I belive it should look something like this:
AddHeroCreatures("Tan", 70, 25) ;
There is a space between name and the creature number and a space between creature number and the quantity of creatures you are trying to add and a space between the ) and ;
hope this helps.

It's always syntax, unfortunately.
The guide's codes and examples are written as functioning codes and examples--do not under any circumstances, mess with the spacing, capitalization, or punctuation.
Interestingly, there was someone who e-mailed me some time ago about the same thing--that he edited the correct file exactly as explained, and the codes, typed EXACTLY as the guide outlines, still wouldn't work. Turns out the way he configured the console to open always made the line start with a space (so I imagine it might have been spacebar to open the console). So, every code, he'd have to backspace first. I dunno if you're in the same boat.
EDIT: Quote:
AddHeroCreatures("Tan", 70, 25) ;

hope this helps.
For the above, kill the space between the closing parenthesis and the semicolon-- ); rather than ) ;
And sfidanza's not kidding! He's done an incredible job digging up a plethora of codes on his own that modders may likely get a kick out of, and so the next update will be a substantial one!

Curio, oddly enough it would not work for me until I put the space between the parenthesis and the semicolon, weird things they are a happening.
