I am using the String value InstallPath to locate the game. There is a new version available where the US version should be supported as well.
(Iniside the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Ubisoft\\Heroes of Might and Magic V\\US")

thank you for the comments. Regarding crashes, I cannot get it to crash (I created between 40--100 maps today, and it worked every time). I looked at between 10 and 20 of these maps, and the editor did not crash once. All of the maps that I tried worked in the game without any issues.

I am sorry, but I cannot fix bugs that I cannot reproduce. This could be an issue with the US version of the game (which would be sad if true). Your crash log seems to indicate an error with the editor installation (it attempts to read d:\data as a data directory, and cannot find types.xml there?).

Regarding a progress bar, I cannot predict the time that is left since the map generation works by the program attempting to create a map - and in case of any problems (like objects that cannot be placed), it just restarts.

Thanks for the new map maker for US players. it works great.. I find the maps under hotseat and multiplayer.. none under custom.. I have no clue why but thats ok.. Thanks again

Hey,

- Yet again a from me Tapani.

- I have not encountered any of those errors/crashes , only thing I have seen is that some maps tend to be rather barren as a whole even with the right settings ? ( made over 50+ maps just for the fun of it )

Its working great for me.... but sometimes objects become unreachable which can be annoying if its your only gem mine that you cant reach and you are playing academy

This tends to happen when water is near so objects have their acces point on water-side and heroes cant reach it because they cant travel over water..

thank you. There is a new version (0.77b) where I have adjusted the parameters to place a little more stuff even on the poorest settings. It also should be a bit faster in creating the largest maps.

I haven't fixed the water/craig problems (that probably made the gem mine unaccessible).

Also, in this newest version there is a random seed present in the map description. If you encounter a problem with a map, by giving me the seed and the settings I should be able to reproduce your map and investigate the problems more efficiently.

are you trying to pull my leg here?

There are several checks and safeguards in the RMG for not placing objects on water. That just "cannot" happen. Also, there are so many other odd things with that screenshot:
- My RMG does not place birches on dirt terrain, only on grass. The water squares seem to have birches on them as well.
- There are no guards in front of the arena despite my RMG being pedantic with guarding everything.
- The monsters are facing in seemingly random directions, the monsters placed by my RMG faces in the direction of the nearest starting castle.

I am puzzled since your screenshot would imply a handful of new bugs, never encountered before, happening to just you.

EDIT: By any chance, did you overwrite an existing map with the RMG while it being open in the map editor? The map editor saves some changes when you close a map - even if you tell it not to.

 This is the first map I've created with your generator(version 0.77).
 I had no other map in that folder .
 It only hapened once,none of the other maps experienced this problem.
 I have some time today and I'll try to generate some maps with the same parameters to say if i can reproduce.
One question although:
 Your generator takes some parameters from the game's data pak ?!

The  problem was my  editor.
It was broken and was misreading the maps .

Could you please add more ways to delimitate the regions (for example rivers/walls).Thank you.

Great work Tapani,just one small complaint:Since I tried 0,75,on large maps(don't know about others) I start with no hero even though I can choose one.Any ideas?With 0,70 everything was fine.

Edit:Same for 0.77.Also while in 0.75 it took 1 sec to create the map,now it's 20-30 secs sometimes.

I think I got it this time.It only happens if I choose haven with Maeve.I tried taking a few other heroes and it was fine(I hope it doesn't happen with other heroes too!).If you could fix that I'd be grateful

I have had some thoughts on varying the borders between areas. Like having forests or lakes (easier to do than rivers and walls). But for now, I am awaiting the official RMG, that might be all that we have waited for... (yeah, right ;-)

I tried a few maps and got a starting hero every time.. I haven't touched that part of the code at all so it would be a surprise if that wouldn't work anymore. Regarding creation time, the time can vary a bit, since the creation process has a small chance of failing. If it does fail, the program just tries again. This causing some maps be generated in a second, and you having to wait a few seconds for some others. Big deal. :-)

WTF, you are right about Maeve! *dumbfounded* I haven't done anything to disable any particular heroes. Maybe Maeve requires some special treatment to exist? Going to investigate..

EDIT: Seems Maeve does not appear in maps made in the editor either, unless specifically enabled in map properties. (Try just any fan-made map). I'll see if I can make Maeve available in the RMG maps.

EDIT2: Fixed. There is a new version 0.78b where Maeve is enabled. Also this one has a more robust treatment of crag tiles (a need for this has been pointed out earlier).

Will not finish...hangs

I am using Heroes version 1.4 North America and the generator just hangs and never finishes even on the smallest map I guess will have to wait for official RMG thx anyways

Niagaran, having 1.4 does not cause the RMG to hang. The latest version is 0.79b and my guess is that you have some of the earliest releases (that unfortunately could hang).

Vince66, try downloading the latest version. My very first fix for the Maeve issue had that problem. That buggy version was on the web for about 20 minutes - and got downloaded by two unlucky souls.. guess you were one of them?

I am currently experimenting with a version that can generate maps for more than two players, and with some luck it should be up on the web in a few hours.

EDIT: The experimental version 0.9b (supports more than 2 players) can be downloaded from here.
Since I have not played any maps created by this version (only looked at them in the game and editor), I am only calling this an experimental release. If you want to have 2 player maps, use the rmg linked to at the top of this thread instead.

you talk about a 0.79 but on the main AOH it says ; Tapani has once again updated his random map generator. Download v.78b so it may confuse some people  ( like me )

- So you best ( just an example ) update in your EDIT or have a link to the latest version.
