Combat Damage Formulas
Where are the files with the following formulas from the Fan Manual located?
Thanks
Damage = Stack_Size * random(min_dmg, max_dmg) * [ 1 + 0.05*(A-D) ]
Damage = Stack_Size * random(min_dmg, max_dmg) / [ 1 + 0.05*(D-A) ]

My guess would be that the formulae are hard-coded, although these vaues may be the ones to change:
/GameMechanics/RPGStats/DefaultStats.xdb:
<DamageIncrease>0.05</DamageIncrease>
<DamageIncreaseCap>3</DamageIncreaseCap>
<DamageDecrease>0.05</DamageDecrease>
<DamageDecreaseCap>0.1</DamageDecreaseCap>

How can I see the scripting for “Spring of Eldritch Renewal” or the magic spring? I searched in data.pack, and I didn’t found it. It appears that is a blocking formula that keeps current mana points equal to 10 * knowledge, but the magic spring avoids that some how…

The xdb file seems fine.
Be sure you followed the structure in the archive, it should also contain all respective folders, so GameMechanics\...\Nosferatu.xdb.
From your post I guess you put it just as single file in archive.
If this is fine though, try to see if Vampire Princes have the ability in duel mode. Maybe you loaded a game played before the mod installing - in this case mods just don't work.

Initiative
I am starting to think that being the first to attack is very unbalanced.
I matched up 20 peasants vs 20 peasants, both in a single stack as you would find in a large army battle against another hero.
Whomever I let strike first, won with a 2:1 ratio, that is, with ~10 peasants left over. That seems like too great an advantage to me.
The ideal would be for HoMM5 to calculate damage for both sides based on the initial number of creatures in each stack. Is this possible to mod?
If not, can anyone think of a way to jury-rig creatures to minimize the advantage of striking first?
I am considering halving the damage, but giving every single creature DOUBLE_ATTACK. This way, the total damage would be the same, but the initial strike wouldn't be so devastating.
EDIT: Tried this, but it didn't work because the defending unit only retaliates against the first attack. Then I tried giving peasants Unlimited Retaliation but that strongly favored single stacks because of how many retaliatory attacks they got against multiple stacks.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Help a newb?
Hi everyone.
I'm new to this with creature modding in H5,
So I would appreciate if anyone could help me a bit.
I've read the modding wiki and some tutorials, but i don't really get it.
Let's say for example I want to create a new crature called "Sniper".
Based on the Master Hunter. Lets say I want to make it red, and be a neutral level 5.
Can someone help how to do it, which files to change and such.
I know how to change the Combat texture, but with all animations and stuff.
I know a lot of you are very good at this, so i better ask you.
And i don't want someone to do it, you know
"Give a man a fish, and he'll have food for the day. Teach a man how to fish and he'll have food for the rest of his life".

Inferno - I think that creatures from vanilla HoMM don't have separate skeleton / geometry files, their details are stored inline inside the model file. So there are no seperate xdbs to look for.
Ebi - the easiest way to make an NCF creature is to download a very basic one that already exists, and try to copy it. Give me a mo, I'll se if I can come up with something more specific.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing here.
Check the following file:
Characters/Creatures/Dwarf/T7_Dwarf/FireDragon.xdb
There are only a few lines and there are references to skeleton and geometry files.
