Dove and Fate listen to the exchanges between the party members.

Afterwards, Dove takes out the Soothe Bell and a Potion and gives them to Misty.

"Here you go. I owed you a Potion after that battle. And, since Mina doesn't mind, you can have the Soothe Bell as well."

The group then enters the elevator, not fully knowing what to expect on the second floor.

After what seems like an eternity, the elevator reaches the second floor.

The pair silently leads the group out of the elevator.
((Map provided in OoC Thread))

The group quickly notices that this floor is much more straightforward than the first one. There are only two rooms; albeit large ones. In both rooms, scientists seem to be working on something. A look into the room on the left quickly reveals a disturbing sight: Many Pokémon inside of test tubes. Pokédex checks reveal them to be an assortment of Geodudes and Sandshrews. However, there's one more tube, separated from the rest. Inside, there's a Pokémon like none ever seen before. A check on that Pokémon turns up the following message:

UNKNOWN POKEMON DATA.
PLEASE CONSULT THE WIRELESS POKEMON NETWORK FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Fate looks at Dove. She returns the look. It seems that they are thinking about something.

Suddenly, Fate's Pokédex starts beeping. Fate opens his Pokédex and sees his father's face on the screen.

"What is it Dad?", asks Fate in a hushed voice.

Elder Aquai looks worried about something. He answers:

"Elder Saha..."

Dove hears this and quickly moves over to Fate's side.

"...Saha's Raichu is gone. The villagers saw it leaving town moving in your direction."

Fate then smiles as he replies:

"I can understand why you all would be worried, but I'm sure that Raichu can take care of itself."

Aquai: "That is not the problem, my son. The villagers also said that they noticed the Raichu was purplish-black in color. I suspect that attack did more than just KO that Pokémon."

Fate says: "What are you trying to get at?"

Aquai says: "I think the Ether Blast has corrupted Saha's Raichu somehow."

Fate pales as he asks: "Do you mean that..."

Aquai interrupts him and confirms his thought:

"Yes. It seems that the Raichu is now under Altros' control. The negative energies of the attack have turned Raichu. This reminds me of what Team Snagem tried to do in Orre with Shadow Pokémon ((I've never played the GameCube game either; I've read the walkthroughs though ))."

Fate remains silent. Dove then takes the Pokédex from Fate and asks:

"Is Mom okay?"

Aquai nods affirmatively as he signs out.

Dove sighs in relief as she ponders what is happening.
Fate then says what they are both thinking:

"We're going to have yet another Pokémon breathing down our necks pretty soon. We need to hurry with this base destruction plan of ours. "

"Where to?", asks Dove.

((Decide my ever cheerful group. I apologize for not being able to update until today, and also apologize because this is the only update for today. Thanks for your attention! ))

((winter? Quick question for you…how are we looking in? I noticed the doors on the map, are they open then? Also, what are the red squares? And the white ones too, while I’m at it.))

Mina was peering into the left chamber, her brow creased with pity and concern as she beheld the captive Ground types. “Can we release them, do you think?” she asked quietly.

She flinched when the Pokedex beeped—it seemed terribly loud and out of place, and she couldn’t help but feel that someone was bound to notice it.

She was half-paying attention while trying to get a better look at what the scientists were doing when the Elder’s voice caught her ear:

"...Saha's Raichu is gone. The villagers saw it leaving town moving in your direction."

Wait, it lived?

Elder and son conversed for a bit longer.

"Yes. It seems that the Raichu is now under Altros' control. The negative energies of the attack have turned Raichu. This reminds me of what Team Snagem tried to do in Orre with Shadow Pokémon."

“Well this just keeps getting better and better doesn’t it?” Mina muttered rhetorically under her breath—quietly, so as not to interrupt. She had heard only vague rumors of Team Snagem ((I haven’t played it either)); most of which was secondhand information from her mother, who had gone on several more-or-less identical rants on the evils of Pokeball usage after coming across a short newspaper clipping about the subject. Thus her memory was likewise vague, but she did recall something about thieves stealing from trainers, and Pokemon with self-destructive (or was it just plain destructive?) tendencies resulting from it.

Mina’s brow furrowed and she gazed worriedly back at the Pokemon filled tubes in the left chamber. She nodded vaguely in agreement with Misty.

((@Kareeah: The doors are closed, but they are made of transparent glass. The "brown";they look brown to me!; squares are the test tubes. The white squares represent tables. The one test tube that isn't paired up on the left side has the new Pokemon. Also, the exit to Floor 3 is across the hallway...forgot to put a door down there on the map. ))

Misty:

Fate looks at you and answers:

"Sounds like a plan. Should we split up to hurry this along then?"

Mina:

After he asks his question to Misty, he looks at you and nods in response to your question about releasing the test tube Pokémon.

Dove picks up on your worry and says, with a wink:

"Don't worry, we'll be fine. We just have to hurry up a bit."

She smiles unconvincingly as she pulls Fate aside and whispers something to him.

Fate nods quietly.

The group decides to move into the left room. The scientists are promptly scared off as the test tube Pokémon are liberated from their  prisons.

Fate stares at the test tube Pokémon ((the new one)) some more before releasing it.

A closer look at the new Pokémon reveals that it is clad in knight's armor from head to toe, a fact that Fate quickly comments on.

"If I didn't know better, I'd swear that this was a human."

Suddenly, the Pokémon lifts its head and...

"Rest assured I am not a human..."

Fate's jaw drops. Dove then picks up the conversation:

"You can..."

The Pokemon interrupts:

"Talk? Yes, I can. But, we have no time for pleasantries. The guards rotate their shift every 6 hours, and it's almost 10PM by my reckoning."

Fate then asks:

"What...are you?"

The Pokemon then looks at Fate and sighs:

"We don't have the time for this. I don't think I can take on that detestable Altros' Pokemon if he decides to show up."

It glares at Fate in resignation and decides to tell its story:

"Well, to satiate your curiosity, I am Zorpaleus, or rather a Zorpaleus. Once every ten years, during a greater dimension convergence, one of my kind evolves into this form. My unevolved kin are called Zorpus. I am what you humans call a Spectral Pokémon. Now, could we please go?"

Fate looks at Zorpaleus and replies:

"Well, nice to meet you. I'm Fate and...*introduces the group to the Pokemon*. However, we plan to blow this base up first. Team Bandra has this region in a stranglehold and we plan to break it, one step at a time."

Zorpaleus nods slowly as it listens. Afterwards, it replies:

"It seems we have a common enemy. I trust you all have Pokemon with you?"

Fate looks down at his belt line and then looks at Zorpaleus amusingly.

Zorpaleus then replies:

"Very well. I will help you. Lead the way."

The group pilfers the left laboratory, which has a Thunder Stone and several ((5)) Blue Shards.

Afterwards, the group moves to the other side and repeats the process. The liberated Pokemon nod in thanks as they all make to leave, through the elevator.

Dove then looks at the party and asks:

"We could enlist their aid, but perhaps it's best just to let them leave. I bet they've been through a lot lately."

She holds the keycard close to the terminal, in case no one objects to them leaving.

((Well they look dark red to me…))

"Don't worry, we'll be fine. We just have to hurry up a bit."

Mina frowned. “It’s not us I’m worried about…” She motioned meaningfully back in the direction of the imprisoned Ground types. Who knew what atrocities had been inflicted on the poor Pokemon?

Her worries seemed to be unfounded, however; after the group scared off the men in white coats (Mina glaring murderously at the latter until the last white lab coat whipped out of site) and the Pokemon were released, the assorted Ground types proved to be relatively unharmed—or at least to the extent than her medically-untrained eyes could tell.

Mina smiled happily as the assorted Sandshrew and Geodude rolled, scuttled and otherwise locomoted around the room while Fate was hesitating over the last test tube.

"You can..."

"Talk? Yes, I can. But, we have no time for pleasantries. The guards rotate their shift every 6 hours, and it's almost 10PM by my reckoning."

The two conversed, while Mina assured herself that the other Pokemon were, in fact, all right. She looked back as Fate started to introduce the party.

“Hi,” she waved when she was introduced.

The group looted the entire floor and Mina was looking curiously at one of the Blue Shards the party had discovered, wondering What are these for? when a light scraping caught her attention.

Most of the Sandshrew and Geodude had gathered around the elevator door and one of the Sandshrew was scratching sadly at it, big soulful eyes looking pleadingly to anyone around to open the door. Dove asked:

"We could enlist their aid, but perhaps it's best just to let them leave. I bet they've been through a lot lately."

“Aw, let’em go,” Mina said sympathetically, “Better for them to go now when there’s less chance of them getting beat down by a possessed killer Raichu.” She continued, “Speaking of which, we might want to find an alternate exit for ourselves once we’re done here. The door we came in is going to be a little obvious.”

Mina:

Dove looks at you and nods happily. She passes the keycard through the terminal, as the Ground-Type Pokémon happily scuttle off to freedom.

"There we go!", remarked Dove happily after the last Sandshrew walked into the elevator."

"Speaking of which, we might want to find an alternate exit for ourselves once we’re done here. The door we came in is going to be a little obvious.”

Dove and Fate lower their heads in thought.
Afterwards, Fate says:

"If I recall correctly, there's an emergency elevator at the end of this tunnel. This used to be a mining..."

Fate smacks his forehead with his hand and says:

"That's why there's Stones everywhere! This camp closed down years ago though, since the mining operation was disturbing the local population of Pokémon and threatened to collapse the immediate area."

Fate shakes his head in disbelief.
Dove whistles in admiration and replies:

"How come I never figured that out?"

Fate grins, noticing an opportunity to be naughty, and replies:

"You never could tell your up from your down..."

Dove gets mad and an argument starts...that ends prematurely when Zorpaleus materializes a spear ((the weird glowing stick in the pic )) out of thin air and hits the floor with it.

"Could we please stop this and keep moving?", asks Zorpaleus.

Dove and Fate look at the irritated Pokemon and nod.

The group walks through the long hallway and reaches a door on the other end.

Zorpaleus hurriedly opens the door with his free hand.

The third floor of the Slashpeak Base is, as Fate figured out mere moments ago, a mining camp. This part of the base has no actual structure. Tents are spread around the rocky enviroment. A look at the surrounding area reveals at least a dozen visible guards, all ordering some Geodudes to punch and pound at the mountainside to extract some Stones sticking out from the mountainside. A look towards the roof reveals a large hole. It appears to be an extinct volcano. Fate swallows hard as he notices this.

The guards immediately notice the party and make to send the Geodudes. However, suddenly, you hear the booming and familiar voice of Officer Altros.

"Leave them! They belong to me! Every last one of them!!!"

Altros orders his Grunts to leave the base through the emergency elevator, and then tells the last one in line.

"Destroy it after you get off at the top."

He then grins sadistically at the party as he notices Zorpaleus' presence.

"Ah...so they let you out. How pathetic."

He then shifts his gaze to look at the group and continues:

"You are fools. Even after you read the fake letter hinting at my arrival, you pushed on. I'll give you credit for bravery. Let it be your epitaph!"

Zorpaleus glares at Altros and replies scathingly:

"I will finish you myself!"

((cue battle music))
----------------------------------------------------------------------
((Altros has 3 Pokémon))
((By the way, you can only send out one Pokémon each...since it's only one opponent, albeit one very dangerous jerk of an opponent. ))

Officer Altros challenges the group to a battle!

Altros sends out Golem!

A quick scan of the Golem reveals that this could be a fight to remember.

Golem:

Level: 32
HP: 100%
Condition: Healthy
Ability: Sturdy

Fate and Dove look at each other. Fate then says:

"This could get nasty. Let's put a stop to that Golem, fast!"

Dove sends out Chikorita!
Fate sends out Totodile!

Zorpaleus moves into the front lines!

((Battle music as ordered. ))

Mina bit her lip. Sandshrew or Pidgey? Pidgey had more battle experience, but Sandshrew had less of a type disadvantage. And there was no way she would send out Pichu against that monstrosity without very good reason.

Why, why, why didn’t I ask the Elder where to find a Water type???

This was going to take some creativity…

She called out Pidgey. The little bird hovered in front of her until she held out her arm for him to land on (and Mina hid a wince as the talons pricked her skin). She leaned close, whispering quickly and quietly.

((I hope I’m allowed to do this…))

“Pidgey, I need you to do something for me. You remember Altros, don’t you?”

The little bird ceased his nervous glimpses at the rock walls—he hated caves, and might have panicked if not for the reassuring hole in the ceiling—to look briefly over his wing at the Bandra officer. Pidgey immediately forgot all about the cave and puffed up, fuming.

“Well that Golem over there is his. I know none of your attacks can do much damage to it—we’ll try, don’t worry—” she added as Pidgey looked indignant “—but he has a type advantage. Chikorita and Totodile over there have an advantage over him, but he’ll know that.

I want you to protect them, okay? Preferably without getting pummeled yourself. If that big guy tries to attack them with a Ground attack, try and get them off the ground, okay? So they don’t get pounded. And if you can’t…” She trailed off, then added predatorily, “Sand Attack him until he can’t find his own feet. Okay?”

Pidgey cooed—the sound a great deal more cheerful than Mina felt the situation really called for—and she threw him into the air. “GO!”

Then Mina stalked unobtrusively closer to Dove and Fate and said out of the corner of her mouth, “Pidgey and I will try and watch your backs.”

((So IOW, if that Golem targets Chikorita or Totodile with Earthquake or Magnitude or some other attack that Pokemon that are Flying/have Levitate are immune to, I want to give up my attack (not like it’ll do much anyway : P) to have Pidgey pick them up so they aren’t affected. Can I do that? If not let me know and I’ll change it.))

Mina:

Dove and Fate look at you and nod affirmatively.

Zorpaleus decides to attack!
Zorpaleus' spear glows green!

Zorpaleus uses Herb Spear!

Altros' Golem is hit for 37 damage!
Its super effective!!

Altros remarks:

"Your struggles are for naught. Bow down before me!"

Altros' Golem uses Block!

Suddenly, you, Fate and Dove realize that your Poké Balls become unresponsive.

Fate gasps as he says:

"Darn it! That Golem is preventing us from switching our Pokémon."

Dove looks at Fate and says:

"Let's make him pay, shall we?"

Fate's frown turns into a grin as he nods:

"Yes, lets..."

Totodile and Chikorita launch a coordinated attack!
Totodile uses Water Gun!
Altros' Golem takes 22 points of damage!
Chikorita uses Razor Leaf!
Altros' Golem takes 22 points of damage!
Altros' Golem is hit twice consecutively!

Golem's Condition:

HP: 22%
Condition: Healthy

Altros looks visibly angered as he throws verbal jabs at the pair:

"I knew I should've wiped you two out last time we met."

Fate retorts:

"Hindsight is 20/20. You won't be getting another chance like that again! You hear me?!"

Altros just smirks smugly as he looks at his nearly unconscious Golem.

"Well, I still have two more Pokémon left. I'll make sure you pay!"

Dove looks at Altros and grins:

"Well, your timing was impeccable on that occasion. After all, what moron attacks a pair of trainers while someone from the Elite Four is in town?"

Altros spits as he replies, venomously:

"You were both lucky. Otherwise, I would've had your heads hanging from my office over at Central HQ already."

Fate stares at Altros as he replies:

"Speaking of which...where is your HQ?"

Altros gives Fate a silencing gaze as he orders his Golem to attack again:

"Golem, let them have it!"

Altros' Golem moves closer to the party as it starts glowing.

Dove notices this and shouts out to the group:

"Look out! It's going to Self-Destruct!"

Altros' Golem uses Self-Destruct!

Zorpaleus jumps out from its position behind the pair and says:

"Take cover!"

Fate cries out:

"What are you doing?"

Zorpaleus grins as he replies:

"Keeping you all alive, that's what!"

Zorpaleus uses Defensive Stance!
Zorpaleus assumes a defensive posture, provoking the foe to attack it!

Zorpaleus takes 20 points of damage!
It's not very effective...

Altros' reaction to Zorpaleus not fainting against the attack is one of sheer shock.

"What?! But, how?"

Zorpaleus glares at Altros and replies:

"You underestimate me at your risk, human!"

Altros' Golem faints!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All Pokémon except Zorpaleus (and I mean ALL, even those that didn't participate...to keep the levels marginally balanced ) gain two levels! Pidgey gains an additional two levels on top of that.
((You all need to assign bonus points now! ))
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Suddenly, Dove's Chikorita starts glowing.

Dove smiles as Altros frowns:

"Chikorita's evolving!", cries out Dove happily!

Dove's Chikorita starts glowing as its form changes. After a few seconds, the evolution is complete!

Dove quickly whips out her Pokédex and scans her now evolved Pokemon:

Dove's smile is about as wide as can be. On the other end of the spectrum, Altros looks sickened beyond words. Without saying another word, he decides on his second choice to send out.

Altros is about to send out Forretress!
Will you switch your Pokémon?

“ACK!”

Mina threw her arms up over her face; the blast shook the ground underfoot, and dust and dirt stung her bare skin as the Golem Self-Destructed.

She peeked out to see Zorpaleus standing there, blocking the attack.

“Thank you,” she squeaked. The Golem toppled over, unconscious.

Altros and the armored Spectral Pokemon traded jibes while Mina looked around frantically for her little bird. “Pidgey! Where are you?”

The little bird almost literally appeared right in front of her. “Ack! There you are! You all right?” He cooed enthusiastically. “Good work. Guess we’ll have to save that strategy for some other time, eh? You want to go for round two?”

He caroled—there really was no other word for it—and puffed out every feather on his body proudly, as though to say, ‘Of course!’

Just then Dove’s Chikorita evolved. Altros looked rather upset, and Mina grinned. She looked up at Pidgey as the Bandra Officer sent out his Pokemon.

“Ready?” A happy coo. “All right, use Gust!”

Misty sends out Stripes!
Draloed sends out Sting!

Zorpaleus spear glows red!
Zorpaleus uses Flame Spear!

Forretress takes 30 points of damage!
It's super effective!!

Altros starts grinning maniacally as he utters:

"Forretress...Counter."

Fate's eyes nearly pop out of his eyes as he yells, too late.

"Zorpaleus! No!"

Forretress uses Counter!
Zorpaleus is hit for 60 damage!!

Zorpaleus faints!

The Spectral Pokémon lands face first on the ground, unconscious, after suffering its own attack redoubled on it.

Altros then takes the time to brag some more.

"So, my pack of misguided fools, did you truly believe that your Zorpaleus would be enough to topple me?"

He raises his voice as he continues:

"You will all DIE! And you...*pointing malevolently at Fate* will not be saved by the [censored] of your cousin."

The battle continues...

Misty:

Zigzagoon uses Headbutt!
Altros' Forretress takes 2 points of damage!
It's not very effective...

Omega:

Poochyena uses Sand-Attack!
Altros' Forretress' accuracy is dropped by one level!

Mina:

Pidgey used Gust!
Altros' Forretress takes 6 points of damage!

Draloed:

Sting uses Bite!
Altros' Forretress takes 2 points of damage!
It's not very effective...

Altros starts laughing harder and harder as the attacks connect against the Forretress.

"Can't you see?", he mocks, "You cannot win!"

He takes out something from behind his back. Even from a distance, you can tell its a Super Potion.

Altros grins as he says:

"Just in case you get lucky...not that it matters in the end.

Fate and Dove clench their teeth as they look at each other. Fate then says:

"Dove, I need to tell you something."

Dove places her finger on Fate's lips and says, with a nod:

"This is not the time. We're going to get through this, ok?"

Fate silently nods in agreement as they both turn back to a visibly disgusted Altros, who vomits out:

"Gag me with a spoon! Love...what a petty sentiment."

His pair of black eyes survey the battlefield, looking for anything that might help the group defeat him. Satisfied at finding nothing visible, he returns his gaze to his Forretress.

Dove and Fate order their Pokémon to attack:

Bayleef uses Razor Leaf!
Altros' Forretress takes 2 points of damage!
It's not very effective...

Totodile uses Water Gun!
Altros' Forretress takes 7 points of damage!

"You will all DIE!”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever you old loon.”

Mina watched the battle with a critical eye. Forretress was a Steel type (she couldn’t remember what else, and her Pokedex seemed to be on the fritz as it wasn’t giving her as much information as it had before), and weak to Fire. That wasn’t much use, as she didn’t have any Fire types.

Pidgey’s Gust seemed to be working all right…not brilliantly, but all right, while the others’ Normal and Dark type attacks seemed deadened against Forretress’ ((That is such a pain to spell. : P)) hard carapace. So Quick Attack and Tackle would probably be ineffective.

There had to be a way to turn the tides somehow, but she was coming up blank. Maybe they could just chip away at it until it fell unconscious, but she didn’t care for those odds…especially with Altros holding that Super Potion. They would have to do enough damage to knock it out before he got a chance to use it—unless he had a Revive stashed in there as well.

She did remember Forretress could explode (And what, she wondered, is with this guy and his exploding Pokemon?) –maybe they could irritate him enough to knock out his own Pokemon?

Bad idea, Mina thought to herself, sparing the unconscious Spectral Pokemon a pitying glance, we’re rather short on cover, and poor Zorpaleus can’t protect us anymore.

Maybe they could target Altros directly? He didn’t seem to have any qualms against it. Mina eyed his Forretress.

No, I really don’t like those odds.

But the battle was progressing without her, she realized. Better to keep pressing the offensive, and hope that the time gained would help her or one of the others think of a plan.

“Pidgey, Gust again!”

Fate looks on at the battle scene, frustrated that the attacks are doing little to the Forretress. He takes out his Pokédex to get a better reading on the opposing Pokémon.

Forretress:

Level: 35
Type: Bug/Steel
HP: 50%
Condition: Healthy
Ability: Sturdy

The data is relayed to all nearby Pokedexes.

Dove ponders a thought and looks at Fate, saying:

"I have a plan. What if we can bind it by using Vine Whip and then attack it while it's immobilized?"

Fate answers:

"It's better than nothing. I'm drawing blanks at the moment."

Mina:

Pidgey uses Gust!
Forretress is hit for 6 damage!

Dove orders Bayleef to immobilize the Forretress with Vine Whip.

Bayleef uses Vine Whip!
Forretress is hit for 1 damage!
The vines bind Forretress in place!

Altros remarks, simply:

"Please...girl...stop wasting my time!"

Forretress uses Rapid Spin!

Suddenly, the Bug/Steel Pokémon liberates itself from the Whips binding it and starts spinning rapidly towards Dove.

Fate looks on in horror as the Pokémon spins closer and closer to Dove.

((Yes, you get a chance to do something before it arrives. Travel times and what-not. ))

Mina was eyeing the tents with the inkling of an idea while Dove and Fate executed their plan. Suddenly—

"Please...girl...stop wasting my time!"

Huh?

Then the Bug type began to spin, madly whirling like the tires of a car on ice, sending plumes of grit off to either side before the Pokemon leaped forward like a pill bug from hades.

“Dove, move!” Mina paired action with words and tried to physically push the older girl out of the spinning Steel type’s path. “Pidgey, quick! Sand Attack on Forretress so he can’t see! Hurry!

((I assure you that Steel Pokémon leave no sparks whatsoever when they spin...*whistles innocently while covering up evidence of electricity*))

Mina:

You manage to push Dove out of the way as you become the closest target for the Rapid Spin.

Pidgey uses Sand-Attack!
Altros' Forretress' accuracy is reduced by one level!

The Pokémon's eyesight is bothered by the two Sand-Attacks inflicted on it and it veers off to the side of you, missing by mere inches.

Dove and Fate simultaneously breathe sighs of relief as they glare at Altros:

"You know...", starts Fate,"...it's a Pokémon Battle. If we were fighting each other directly, it'd be something else."

Altros gives Fate a "deal with it, wimp" look as the Forretress returns to its Trainer's side.

((Ok...last update for today. Let's see how many people log in for tomorrow's updates! Take care guys! *waves*))

Having missed out on so much, so far, I attempt to do something. I send out Grimer.

"Poison Gas on that Forretress, now!"
