The spinning Bug type rocketed past Mina, the wind of its passing beating at her clothes. It passed so close it left a new set of scrape marks on the heel of one shoe.
Mina sent her own glare at the Bandra officer as his Pokemon returned to his side. A flash of Pokeball-generated light announced the arrival of Stacy’s Grimer to the fray.
"Poison Gas on that Forretress, now!"
Mina flinched. “Stacey I hope you know what you’re doing; Steel Types are immune to Poison type attacks!”
((And if this ends up being another exception like Sand Attack, feel free to say so.
Edited to account for the fact that Mina almost got squashed.))

*sigh* "I'll never understand people. Anyways, good job Poocheyna. Let's leave the rest to Zero."
I'll recall Poocheyna and send out Zero. A tail whip should help nicely against Mr. Fancy Steel Pantsy.

Mina couldn’t help but look concerned over this disturbing piece of information. Guess we’ll just have to make up the deficit somehow.
“Well, all right then.” She turned back to the battle. “Good work Pidgey, keep it up! Use Gust!”

((@Kareeah: Nope, it is not an exception. Heck, I think Sand-Attack is the only exception in all of Pokémon.  ))
Stacey:
You sent out Grimer!
Grimer uses Poison Gas!
Altros can't help but let out one of his patented maniacal laughs in response to the attack, deciding not to comment ((for once  )) since the group is already telling you that Poison doesn't affect Steel-Types.
Altros' Forretress is unaffected!
Omega:
You recall Poochyena!
You send out Zero!
Zero uses Tail Whip!
Altros' Forretress' Defense is reduced by one level!
Draloed:
Sting takes an evasive action!
It takes cover amongst the minor rock formations in the area, gaining 3 levels of evasiveness until its next turn!
Mina:
Pidgey uses Gust!
Altros' Forretress is hit for 6 points of damage!
The Gust attack has a secondary effect. It blows the residues of the recent Poison Gas attack in Altros' direction. He quickly covers himself with his cloak. You can make out something along the lines like: "Stupid gas...fools..."
Once the gas is done blowing through his part of the battlefield, he uncovers himself and uses the Super Potion on Forretress.
Forretress recovers 50 HP!
Forretress' Condition:
Level: 35
HP: 87%
Condition: Healthy
Fate helps Dove stand up again as they look at the recent happenings.
Fate then remarks:
"It looks like you're out of Potions, Altros. Unprepared, much?"
Altros then smirks as he replies:
"I am out of Potions, but don't assume for an instant that this battle is over, or that you'll be able to win."
Fate glances at Dove, with a small smile on his face and whispers something to her. Due to her relative proximity, Mina is the only one who can overhear the whispers.
Fate whispers to Dove:
"How about we immobilize him in such a way he can't escape? Or at least wastes time trying to escape?"
Dove raises an eyebrow as Fate continues:
"Mud."
Dove looks at Fate confused as he insists.
"Look where we are. Mud? Get it?"
Dove slaps her forehead and nods.
Altros then bellows:
"What are you two muttering about over there? It's not like you'll be able to win."
Fate yells back, sarcastically:
"Yeah, yeah, we understood what you meant the twentieth time you said that same one-liner."
He then mutters to himself:
"I hate that guy."
He glares back at Altros as he says:
"Bring it then, tough guy! You can't beat me!"
Altros looks at Fate, marginally amused, and replies:
"If you insist..."
Altros then orders his Forretress, grinning madly:
"Take Down that Totodile! Now!"
As the Forretress charges at Totodile, Fate's grin grows as he says:
"Totodile! Water Gun the ground, NOW!!!"
Altros' grin dies as he realizes what has happened. However, he can't recall his Pokémon's attack.
The Forretress becomes trapped in the mud!
Fate and Dove cry out simultaneously!
"Beat it down! Now! Before it can escape!"
Dove uses Vine Whip!
Altros' Forretress takes 1 point of damage!
It's not very effective...
The vines further immobilize the Forretress!
((Keep it up crew! We must not be denied! ))

I see the poison gas have no affect on the forretress. That is good information to obtain.
"Alright. Well, use Mud Slap then!"
(I think that's one of Grimer's attacks. It's one that I recall, from one of my searches. I don't have time to check.)

Realizing that any straight attack could land the pokemon in the same problem as the fortress, Misty decides to help them in another way. "Tail whip!" she plans to save her helping hand pokemon for the big bad fire pokemon she witnessed earlier. A good water gun/helping hand combo could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

Forretress' accuracy drops by one level!
Mina:
Pidgey uses Gust!
Forretress takes 6 points of damage!

Sting uses Bite!
Forretress takes 3 points of damage!
It's not very effective...
Fate orders his Totodile to use Water Gun on the Forretress!
Forretress takes 7 points of damage!
The attacks are slowly wearing down the Forretress. Altros is livid at this development as he roars:
"Rapid Spin out of there, now!"
Forretress uses Rapid Spin!
But, it failed...
Dove and Fate exchange satisfied grins as the Forretress tries, unsuccessfully, to break free. Not willing to have any of this humiliation, Altros cries out:
"Forretress, use EXPLOSION!!!"
The grins of Dove and Fate die instantly, as they look around the battlefield for cover, at the same time as they yell out:
"Everyone! Take cover! Recall your Pokémon!"
Dove and Fate recall their Pokémon as the rest of the group complies. The Explosion tears through the battlefield mercilessly, not having Zorpaleus to confine it as before. After several long seconds, the Explosion ends and the Forretress faints.
Fate and Dove look the worst off...while Mina, being closest to them, took a greater part of the hit as well. The others are all injured, in various degrees, but less than Mina, Dove and Fate.
Fate and Dove struggle to get up as they cough. Shirt and jeans torn, they look at Altros, who has a cynical grin painted on his face.

“PIDGEY RETURN!”
The little bird dissolved into red light and disappeared into his ball just in time, as the Forretress glowed white.
Unfortunately, that didn’t leave any time to dive for cover.
Sound engulfed everything. A hastily thrown arm shielded her eyes and most of her face, but didn’t stop her from being flung backwards by the force of the attack. For several seconds, everything was light and booming and rushing air and—
It stopped. The noise ended, the air ceased to tear at her, and she realized she had been knocked down; she was seated, more or less, as the blast had blown her into a short rock formation. It had happened so fast she felt traces of shock sink in as she cautiously lowered her arms from her face.
There was something trickling down her arm—a closer examination revealed it to be blood. There was a series of uncomfortable stabbing feelings in her back from where she’d landed against the rock formation, but her vest had protected her from the worst of it; it would probably just leave a chain of bruises. Blasted sand had left stinging abrasions up and down her arms and a sharper pain was emitting from her right side, just at the base of her ribs.
The latter twinged when she shifted to examine it, and when she got a good look she saw why. A stone spar, no doubt kicked up by the attack, had been imbedded there; piercing vest and shirt and stopped only by the bone, it oozed blood into the surrounding fabric.
She prodded it cautiously with one finger; the action (and resulting pain) spurred a return of slightly more rational thought.
WHY THAT FILTHY DISGUSTING—
Her internal rant was interrupted by Omega.
"You stupid yabo! You trying to get us killed?!"
From her seat on the floor, Mina saw a stone fly at Altros.
“Yes, Omega, I think he was,” she replied almost idly. “Nevertheless…”
Gritting her teeth, Mina wrapped her fingers around the stone piece and yanked. It came out with minimal fuss, and she tossed the bloody stone aside as she struggled to her feet.
She took a deep breath.
“YOU PEA BRAINED, TRASH-EATING PIECE OF ROT! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO OVERCOMPENSATE FOR, YOUR EMPTY HEAD?!!”
((Want to see how creative I can get with the insults without actually swearing. Think I need more practice. ))

Mina:
Altros grins at you and says nothing. You get the "deal with it" look.
((What in blazes did you just say Omega? LOL!))
Omega:
Your words fall on deaf ears.
You then find a nicely-sized rock and throw it at Altros. It hits him squarely on his cheek, causing his grin to go away, as he stares at you angrily. He says nothing, choosing rather to send out his third Pokémon.
Altros sends out Charizard!
The black Charizard comes out of its Poké Ball and roars fiercely.
Fate looks back at the group and cries out, as loud as he can given his condition:
"This is his last Pokémon! We can beat him!"
Altros raises an eyebrow and laughs:
"Oh really? You are all worse than cockroaches. Roll over and die already!"
Suddenly, a small speck can be observed in the distance, hopping from ledge to ledge with outstanding dexterity. After a few tense seconds, where even Altros is staring at the speck, it becomes visible.
"Ah!", exclaims Altros, "My backup has arrived!"
The group notices that the speck is Saha's Raichu, leaping down at high speeds to reach Altros. Once it reaches him, it stands by his side. Immediately, the group notices that it has the same purplish-black coloration that the Charizard has.
Dove cries out to it:
"Raichu!"
The Raichu gives a quick glance to the daughter of its former owner and then turns back to Altros.
Altros then looks sadistically at Dove and mocks:
"Its mine now! Feel the wrath of your former comrade!"
Altros sends out Raichu!
Raichu and Charizard now stand together, in battle, fighting for the same man.
((You can all send out two Pokémon now. ))
Fate sends out Totodile and Sandshrew!
Dove sends out Bayleef and Sandshrew!

I wonder if these two can explode too… Mina thought idly, ignoring Altros’ look.
She flicked her Pokedex (amazingly still on her person and more-or-less functional despite the explosion—unlike her pack which had had a strap break, and was now only hanging off one shoulder) over the two Pokemon. She remembered the Charizard, of course, but the Raichu had obviously changed…
Pidgey was going to have to sit this one out, she realized. Altros may not have been the most brilliant strategist, but even he knew to exploit a type disadvantage. That left Sandshrew, and Pichu…
Pichu. Raichu’s pre-evolved form’s pre-evolved form. Ability Static. Oh, drat, we can’t let our Pokemon make contact on that thing without risking Paralyzing them! As if the Ether Blasting Charizard wasn’t enough!
Mina muttered darkly as she fished the two Pokeballs off her belt, releasing the Electric and Ground types.
“All right guys,” she started, her voice low.
“Chu!” Pichu pointed at the blood stain oozing slowly down into the waistband of her trainer’s jeans, ears twitching back with concern.
“Don’t worry about that,” Mina assured her, clamping a tight hand over the injury.
“Chuuu…”
“Listen,” Mina crouched down, voice urgent. “I need you guys’ help.
Pichu, I need you to Thunder Wave that Charizard. I know he’s big and scary, but he’s a Flying type so you get a type advantage.
Sandshrew? Try and Poison Sting that Raichu, but be careful—it can Paralyze by contact.
Both of you, be very careful—that Charizard has a nasty attack that rots what it hits and can corrupt you—that’s why we’re fighting that Raichu, if you’re curious. It might have it too, now, I don’t know, and I don’t want to find out because one of you got hit, okay? So watch your backs and make me proud.” Mina smiled weakly and stood again, wincing. “Go!”

Mina: You quickly scan the Raichu and the Charizard:
Raichu:
Level: 35
HP: 100%
Condition: Healthy
As you scan the Raichu, you see Dove plugging in numbers madly. You quickly see what she's doing:
Raichu's Stats:
Gender: Female
HP: 97
Attack: 78
Defense: 54
Sp.Atk: 78+15
Sp.Def: 71
Speed: 85+15
Ability: Static
Dove looks back at the group and grins weakly, as the data reaches the other Pokedexes:
"Hey, she is...or, was, my mom's. I should know how she trained her."
Charizard:
Level: 40
HP: 100%
Condition: Healthy
Ability: Blaze
Dove looks all beaten up, which prompts Fate to ask:
"Are you okay?"
Dove smiles weakly and replies:
"Better than you at least. Remind me to bring armor next time we battle this guy."
Fate laughs as he notices how battered up he is. He quickly grows grim.
"We need to take him out..."
Fate loses his balance and Dove keeps him from falling down. He resumes:
"...before they take us out."
Dove nods as they look on at Altros and the pair of corrupted Pokémon.
Mina:
You sent out Pichu and Sandshrew!
Pichu uses Thunder Wave!
Altros picks up on the attack and says:
"No you don't!"
He orders Raichu to cover the Charizard from the Wave, which is picked up on by Dove:
"Oh no, YOU don't!", weakly yells Dove.
Bayleef uses Vine Whip!
The Whips lash out and grab the Raichu, sending it slamming to the ground, away from the line of fire of the Thunder Wave.
Raichu is hit for 9 damage!
The Thunder Wave connects with the Charizard!
Altros' Charizard is paralyzed!
It may not be able to attack!
Altros glares at the offending Pichu and snorts:
"Great...again."
Sandshrew uses Poison Sting!
The Raichu, momentarily immobilized by the Vine Whip slam, is set upon by the Sandshrew and its poisonous stinger.
Sandshrew uses Poison Sting!
Raichu is hit for 3 damage!
Raichu is poisoned!
Altros is nothing short of irate after this first turn onslaught of Status Effects. He looks at the party grimly and states:
"Well", starts Altros, "it would seem I have to finish you all the quicker then."
Raichu tightens its focus!
Charizard uses Slash on Sandshrew!
Fate cries out weakly:
"No! Totodile...Water Gun him now!"
Misty's Eevee uses Helping Hand on Totodile!
The power of Water Gun is increased 1.5 times!
Totodile uses Water Gun!
Hedge uses Sand-Attack!
Altros' Charizard takes 17 points of damage!
The attack is super effective!
Charizard's accuracy drops by one level!
The Charizard, caught by surprise by the attacks (and also thanks to the Paralysis), falls down on its face. Altros glares at his now fallen Charizard.
"Worthless piece of..."
Fate grins weakly as he tells the group:
"Someone...attack that Raichu! Hurry!"
Dove and Fate have their Sandshrews attack the Charizard (closest, fallen target).
The Sandshrews launch a coordinated attack!
Dove's Sandshrew used Scratch!
Fate's Sandshrew used Scratch!
Charizard takes 3 damage!
Charizard takes 6 damage critically!
Altros is about to pull his hair out in disbelief.
"But...how. You are all insignificant!"
Fate then spits back:
"We may not be much in the grand scale of things, but we outnumber you. Pity on you for not being able to count."
Altros glares, but remains silent.
((Long update! Post away, young ones! ))
Charizard's Condition
HP: 79%
Condition: Paralyzed ((look familiar? ))
Raichu's Condition:
HP: 88%
Condition: Poisoned

Just then, the nameless girl and her equally nameless Pokémon appeared out of nowhere behind Altros, completing the overwhelming swarming circle they were making around him.
"Now!" she called out, making reference to some kind of previously agreed plan of action, and two of her Pokémon sprung forward from either side of her, each picking a different target. The Sandshrew leapt for the Raichu to deliver a vicious scratch to it, whereas the Buizel boldly charged the Charizard with a stream of water.

With only moderate injuries, I brush off the dust that got on me, and step forward once again. The arrival of the Raichu does seem to hinder things, but I see it as helping in my learning to be a trainer.
"Alright, Grimer and Ratatta, go!"
I toss both balls out, and they appear.
"Grimer, hit that Raichu with a Mud Slap! Ratatta, Focus Energy!"

"Great...again."
“Thought you’d like that!” Mina flashed Altros a savage grin as Sandshrew attacked the pinned Raichu. Her Pokedex flashed the ‘Poisoned’ condition at her, and she grinned wider. “Way to go, guys!”
The Charizard looked distinctly uncomfortable from Pichu’s Thunder Wave. It raised a claw, aiming a Slash right at Mina’s little armadillo—
“Sandshrew!”
"No! Totodile...Water Gun him now!"
The attack went wide.
“Thanks, Fate,” Mina told him, relieved. “We owe you one.”
To her Pokemon, she shouted, “Alright, Pichu! Thundershock on Charizard! Sandshrew, Scratch that Raichu, throw off her concentration!”
As she turned back to the fight, a thought occurred to her. She pitched her voice low so Altros couldn’t hear. “Hey, do you think we could get those two—” she gestured towards Altros’ Pokemon “—to attack each other? Aim at each other—” between her injuries, and the day’s exertions, Mina was finding it difficult to put words to what she wanted to say. “—and move out of the way at the last second?”
