"Aw come on, don't run away, we're busting you out, you could at least return the favor of saving our lives else we'll all end up taking the long dirt nap!" I shout at the caged pokemon that I glimpse making a break for it as fast as their feet can carry them. "Pellana, perhaps these goggles will help you?" I say squinting in her direction. It was hard to see in the sandstorm and saying anything resulted in sand getting in my mouth. "Ratman keep freeing captives, Taillow use quick attack on Wispaferyn B, Flaaffy is it possible for you to use Thunder Wave on all the enemy pokemon that would be affected by it? Like... not the ground types? If not, just target all the Wispaferyn's with it. Wythir Shadow Sneak Sandslash A." It occurred to me that I still had the smoke I purchased from the shop earlier as well as some Fresh Water in my bag. Even with Poliwhirl out of commission I should still be able to use it to help us escape if need be. Oh wait... which way is the wind blowing? With this sandstorm it seems like it's blowing....well... every which way....

Gritting his teeth, Mark looks at the way the fight is going and decides to do something that's a bit of a gamble. He holds back from calling out any commands to the released pokemon, not wanting to give the grunts or task master any warning, gets out Jessia's pokeball, and asks Mina, "Got any berries or items to cure negative accuracy? And... focus on getting your houndoom back up." Before rattling off a list of commands.

"Skarmory, use Swift again. This time target the weakest Wispafaren and the weakest Sandslash. Fisher," He knew the ice type was likely going down this turn, so he decides to pull a hail mary and tells him, "use Ice Shard on the taskmaster's Graveler! Sengar, hang back a second." And with that, he uses a revive on his Corphish. "Jessia, use Icy Wind on any non-steel type still standing!"

If Mina has something to cure accuracy lowering, Mark also asks her to use it on Jessia, to try and cure his highest damage dealer that's out there at the moment before her attack.

Forgot goggles

“I don’t know if I have any…wait, yes I do!” Mina pulled the Nilla Berry and her only Max Revive out of her pack, applying the latter to Houndoom. “Pidgey, Natu, cover me!” She ran over to Jessia and shoved the Berry in the Ice type’s face, privately grateful that this was one of Mark’s increasingly few Pokémon who didn’t hate her for no reason. “Only one I got, make it count!” ((-1 Max Revive, -1 Nilla Berry, zero remaining of each))

Pellana takes the Goggles and then gives them back to Matt in confusion. “These protect against weather damage, my Shambak’s immune to Sandstorm!”

Matt’s calls to the fleeing Pokémon seemed to be just enough to get them to hesitate…which in turn was just enough time for Ranger Wain to loop all three of them. He checked his Styler and called out some attacks.

Ratman managed to free Marick (who immediately ran over to Mark and nuzzled against his leg) and a little Ralts who looked so terrified it didn’t even leave the cage right away – making it an easy loop for Ranger Wain. ((Both are level 21.))

The Taskmaster recalled his Graveler – there was still enough sand it was impossible to see his expression with any detail – and called out a replacement:

Taskmaster sends out Phantasea!

The new Pokémon was somewhat gangly, serpentine, and ghostly. It had a pair of arms with long, twisted fingers and what looked like a piece of shipwreck strapped to its head, and a sort of paddle-shape at the end of its tail. More concerning, the party - humans and Pokémon - felt an odd force tugging at them as soon as it appeared on the field…

Phantasea’s Shadow Tag prevents fleeing!

Well crap. These new additions being forced to help us may be a bad thing when they come too and realize what's happened. Except for that poor Pachirisu. I had to repress the urge to use my revive, things were looking slightly better than before, but not by much.

"Alright Ratman, Crunch Wispaferyn C, Taillow Peck the other one. Wythir, Will-O-Wisp that Magneton that's over by the enemy that's giving the orders over there. And Flaaffy, Thundershock that new enemy. The Phantasea thing. Hopefully it'll be weak to you."

((I think Phantasea is new? Not sure what the type is, but I'm guessing Dark/ Water or Spectral/ Water. Because of the dark absorb potential and having "sea" in its name. Soooo...))

Getting out his pokedex to try and identify this next taskmaster pokemon, not recognizing it, Mark's mood brightens considerably the moment his aron finally returns to him. Still looking up, he gets down on a knee and pats his organic hand on his little steel types while barking out commands. "Skarmory, use swift again, targeting the Wispafaren and the weaker Ariados." The steel bird was likely going down this round of attacks, hopefully he could take some of them down with him. "Fisher, use Sing on any opposing pokemon still standing when you get to go. Jessia, use Icy Wind on the Sandslash, Machoke, both Ariados and the last Graveler. Marik, good to have you again bud, headbutt that weird looking..." Looking at his pokedex, he says, "the Taskmaster's Phantasea. Corphish, use Protect and intercept attacks targeting Jessia. Sengar, use Endure and protect Mina's Houndoom."

To Mina she shouts over the howling sandstorm, "I can give you this round, and you've got the best shot. Do as much damage as you can to that taskmaster's Magneton!" Her Houndoom waslikely going to be targeted because of how dangerous it was to the two steel types left standing, being the only fire type and not having any accuracy penalties to worry about. Hopefully Sengar would be able to keep him up.

Mark’s Pokédex scans for a moment before informing him that the new Pokémon is a Ghost/Water type, level 36.

Said to be created by shipwrecks, this Pokemon feeds by dragging its prey to the bottom of the sea to drown, then consuming its essence.

“Cheery,” Mina deadpans. “Okay then, Houndoom, you heard the man: Ember the Taskmaster’s Magneton! Natu, if it’s still up, Nightshade it, otherwise hit the other one! Pidgey, Gust that Wispaferyn ((C))!”

Taskmaster sends out Naedire!

The new Pokémon looks like a swan with dark scales – sharp, beak-like face, broad wings, and odd little jewels all over its body. The Pokédex identifies it as a Spectral/Dragon type ((at least half of which you should already know, considering. )), level 35.

This Pokemon lives in deep caves, where it preys on the unwary. The 'gems' on its body are photoreceptive and help it to navigate in dark places.

Naedire’s Troglophile increases its Speed!

Wait, ghost type?! And unpleasant at that... crap. Seeing Marick just jump through that scary little critter was a bit painful, but the lesson was learned. And there was a better target that the Taskmaster had sent out right next to it anyway...

Surprised that they hadn't gone for Mina's Houndoom again, Mark looks over his remaining pokemon, winces at seeing that Skarmory has finally gone down, and he calls out commands to the four that were still standing. "Almost there guys, just a bit more! Sengar, use  Helping Hand on Jessia. Jessia, Icy Wind everything still standing." While it might not work the best on the Phantasea and the Magnamite, there were exactly five targets, and the other three would still be vulnerable or at least neutral. "Corphish, use Vice Grip on the Naedire. Marick, headbutt the Naedire."

And hopefully the spectral dragon wasn't faster than his ghost type... and if it was, hopefully it would miss. Because he had a feeling that if they could take Jessia down, they were going to do so. Hopefully, if anyone had a protective move that wasn't on cool-down they would think to protect her.

Hopefully Flaaffy hits and maybe gets in a better mood. a glare seemed fixated on me as I rushed to Revive Weepinbell. I also crossed my fingers that any enemy reinforcements weren't anywhere close by.

Mina was completely out of usable pokemon, and Mark wasn't doing much better at this point... but he still had some tricks up his sleeve. Mainly, he had one trick up his sleeve that could delay things for a bit. Jessia should be faster than the spectral type this turn, with the speed cut it had suffered, but she wouldn't be able to one-shot the weakened pokemon before it could act again. And so, instead, he shouts out, "Don't worry about helping me, guys, wait for the next attack and get your pokemon back up. If you've got quick attacks, hit that spectral type with them!" Saying this, he tosses one of his last spare revives over to Pellena for her to get one of her pokemon back up, and he shouts to his pokemon, "Jessia, use protect and intercept attacks for Marik. Marik, headbutt that Naedire again!"

If they could take down the spectral type before it could act again, then that made his next attacks easier. But if not... well, hopefully they would do enough damage for Jessia to finish things off next round.

Seeing one pokemon wipe out so many allies in one shot caused my heart to sink to the depths of my insides. Nothing to do but hope for the best.

"Wythir, stomp that Naedire, Taillow, Wing Attack it, Weepinbell.... give it a face full of Sleep Powder." Squinting through the Mist, I could make out a lot less enemies than there were when the battle started. Did the others run away? The very motion gave me an idea... "Hey Bandra goon, your buddies aren't going to get very far, y'all aren't the only ones with reinforcements. Ya help us take down the hot shot there and maybe we'll give ya a lighter prison sentence!" Horrible bluff, but what do they know. Maybe the Ranger has allies on the way. Provided he has allies.

Forgot Chilan Berry

Pellana catches Mark’s Revive and applies it to her Hitmonlee ((-1 Revive for Mark, 0 remaining, Hitmonlee is at 37 HP)), the only one of her Pokémon that is both unconscious and not Shadowed. Mina digs out a Revive of her own and applies it to Oodramer. ((-1 Revive for Mina, 2 remaining, Oodramer is at 41 HP))

"Hey Bandra goon, your buddies aren't going to get very far, y'all aren't the only ones with reinforcements. Ya help us take down the hot shot there and maybe we'll give ya a lighter prison sentence!"

The expression on the Grunt’s face tells Matt he probably would have had better luck with that tactic if said ‘hot shot’ hadn’t just knocked out seven of the group’s Pokémon with one attack.

…And the Taskmaster doesn’t help, adding in: “Simpleton. We have radios, do you think we wouldn’t know if you had an army of friends on the way?” Mockingly, he continues, “Or are you going to claim they’re all invisible blood-sucking ghosts?” He gives a stabbing glare to the Grunt. “Cover me. Like they’ve been doing.”

Wait, a Chilan berry? Oh, but that was bad. Even if Jessia got all of the helping hands in the party, she wouldn't be able to take down that dragon type in one hit now... So he went with a different hail-mary idea. "Marik, intercept attacks for Jessia." The little steel type should still have Sturdy, if Mark wasn't mistaken. "Jessia, use Ominous Wind on the Phantasea." And, with those commands given, he pulls out his last revive and, instead of having Marik attack, he uses it on Fisher to get his lapras back into the battle. They were really running out of steam at this point...

Being a bit stunned to see his pokemon fall, my stupor was removed hearing the Taskmaster rage at Mina. Wait, did he say something? Reinforcements... No... that was my bluff.... Did he respond? I shake my head trying to focus again, blood pounding in my ears from Taillows shriek of pain.

Revive. Mark and Mina were scrambling around reviving who they could to get the victory. Revive? Wait a second....

Fishing through my backpack I find what I'm looking for. Looking around the battlefield I find the next thing I'm looking for.

"Mark I'm going to use my Max Revive on your Lapras, for gods' sake knock that thing out!" Dashing as fast as I could over to Lapras' I pop open the Max Revive and pour it down it's throat. I cross my fingers hoping it's not too late. Good gracious... What else is hiding in my pack that could be of use. Burn heal? Super Potions? Would they even matter?

Wait. Mark remembered having three revives. He only had two. Crap, his plans revolved around- and there was Matt, with the save. Okay good, so Mark's desperate plan was still a go- Reinforcements? Bandra reinforcements? Oh crud, no time for his cute plan, then. They just had to go all-out and burn this thing down with volume of attacks.

"Matt, thanks. Heal Pelena's pokemon up if you can. Jessia, use Icy wind, Fisher, welcome back bud, use Ice Shard." Those two would go before this awful, awful thing, but as for his aron... "Marik, continue intercepting for Jessia and use Harden." They would need his ice type to stay up and running if more Bandra goons came around. He also checked Marik's move set quickly to see if Zelgius had changed anything while the little steel/rock type had been in his possession.

Mina takes stock of the battlefield.

“We’ve got a bunch of Pokémon still in cages, an army of Bandra goons coming this way and I’m down to two Revives and no Pokémon, I don’t know about the rest of you.” Pellana and Ranger Wain both shake their heads sadly. “We need a plan. I think I remember how to lock this,” she motioned to the door everyone came in, “but the Grunts went that way” she motions to the opposite side of the room “and there’s another entrance farther down they can get in.”

“Do you think they left anything here we can use?” Ana asks.

“If you’re going to look, look, but be quick about it, we don’t have a lot of time. I’m going to see about barring the door unless you lot think I shouldn’t.”

Pulling out a potion and a super potion, Mark heals up Jessia (with the potion) and Marik (with the Super Potion). Fisher would have to wait for now. "Wain, see what pokemon you can get to follow you in the cages. Marik, assist him in getting those pokemon out. Jessia, use Double Team as many times as you can. Fisher, use Rain Dance and then put up a new Mist. If you have time, ready and use Ice Shard on the first bandra member or pokemon to break through the doors." At least the grunts wouldn't be able to knock down everyone's accuracy again once they arrived.

Tossing Pellena a super potion for her pokemon, he tells the others, "Pellena, Matt, we need to close and lock those doors and try to barricade them with empty cages if we can. They might not last too long if there are a lot of earthquake users, but... well..." He shrugs a bit and says, "It will be something, at least. Mina, they seem to know we have teleporters and have methods meant to counter them, so we're not likely to get out that way." Unfortunately that means no Natu, and thus, they would have to walk back to the Center once they managed to break out properly. Mark recalls his still-unconscious pokemon as he finishes his battle plan, and tells her, "Get up the sturdiest non-shadowed pokemon you can. And try to bulk them up on defensive moves or with higher speed if you can."

"Everyone return."I say as red beams of light flash out from pokeballs to return my nearly new, all shadowed, team. As Mark speaks surprisingly clearly without stammering, I raise a hand to slow him down.
"Use three of my super potions to heal your team up, I'll toss one to Pellana as well. I feel primarily responsible for this mess we're in. Perhaps your Lapras could put up some thick ice wall over the door the other Bandra goons fled out. Maybe that will buy us a little more time." I pull out the pokedex and switch it over to the app that reveals if a pokemon is registered to a trainer or not while saying to the rest in cages. "Now's the time to free yourselves if you're able. Unless any of you are too weak. I wouldn't want to say that we could capture you to get you out of the cages that way, as that seems unfair to your freedom as well. I'm open for options. Perhaps we better take a quick pocket cleansing of that Taskmaster to see if he had anything useful on him. Keys perhaps."

”Mina, they seem to know we have teleporters and have methods meant to counter them, so we're not likely to get out that way."

Hearing this, Mina activates the lock on the entrance they’d come in. She looks pleased to see it seal just as it had the last time she’d been here.

…and not a moment too soon, as moments later the group can hear muffled voices on the other side.

Pellana gives the Super Potions back to Mark and Matt; she’s already pulled out a couple healing items of her own. “Keep your Potions I can heal my own Pokémon, I just can’t revive them.” She heals up her conscious Pokémon and starts moving empty cages in front of the exit behind the bloodstained alter.

Matt is able to find keys in the Taskmaster’s pockets, along with 1200 PD ((+ existing = 6000 PD total)) and what looks like a receipt that reads:

Quote:
You are hearby informed that your shipment of Dusk Stones was received in Stardust City as scheduled. You will continue to receive requests for other Stone types from other portions of the organization on an as-needed basis. We expect future shipments to proceed as discussed.

Meanwhile Marick has already started biting through locks on the shorter cages ((Poochyena level 25, Vespiquen level 27 – this one’s showing up as captured, Serranix level 24 (and Dark/Fighting since that’s a homebrewed ‘mon))), but the taller ones are out of his reach, and a few exploratory bites reveals that whatever metal the cages are made of is A LOT stronger than the cheap locks. Ranger Wain circles the Pokémon once they are freed, and is able to identify that the Vespiquen belongs to an older couple living in Rieva – apparently they’ve been missing her for a while.

((I’ll update HP etc. once you guys clear things up in the OoC thread.))
